Success should not be punished. This fucking liberals have to stop waiting for the crumbs to fall off the table. This talk about "fair share" turns my stomach.
Barack Obama did one thing right... he separated the US into two classes. Sheep and Thinking people. Hopefully in 2012, the Thinking people will out number the sheep and we'll have a conservative president.
Capitalism (free market) is not the problem and Government is a necessary expense. The problem is when those who have gained money in Capitalism use it to gain power in Government, and when those who have gained power in Government use it to gain money from Capitalism. This is called Crony Capitalism. Exibit A: Mr. Buffett and Mr. Obama.
Solution:cut the WB Secretary's tax rate down to a 10% flat rate just like the rest should be paying. Then the economy would bounce back/jobs would be created/debt would increase at a slower rate.
I'm from Australia and my Dad use to pay 66% in the 70's.And the country was still in a mess.
@blackpower4eba He's got just as much European blood as he does African. His ethnicity is totally irrelevant, it's his policy that people have problems with.
This is such a fuck'n joke. Buffet is behind all of this shit. He is a socialist money czar. He created his wealth as a capitalist, now he is rich. He wants to jack taxes up so high, so he can eliminate all competition. It is the oldest trick in book. Idiots actually believe Buffett wants a free market. That old pile of shit would get his ass kicked if it were a true free market.
In my opinion, the federal government simply must reign in spending; produce ample, open, detailed, documentation regarding precisely where money is going and explain exactly how it is spent, before it asks for more money. The argument the current administration is using simply puts the cart before the horse. If the spending house isn't cleaned first, I've no time to hear about increased taxes, I don't care which administration is making the pitch...
In Feb 09, Jeffery Immelt was appointed as a member to the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board
On Jan 21, 11, BHO announced Immelt's appointment as chairman of HIS outside panel of economic advisers to make the White House [more business-friendly]. Immelt retained his post at G.E. while becoming [chairman of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness,] a newly named panel that BHO created by another [executive order]
To be somewhat fair to Warren Buffet's secretary she was most likely ordered to voluntarily accept the invitation to the SOTU. She is a really unfortunate pawn, well paid at that.
Persons A and B get 1000 credits. They pay 30% on their income. Person A spends all his money to buy junk. Total taxes of A: 300 credits.
Person B is smart and buys good stock. She gains 100 additional credits for this at the end of the year, while not having all the junk A bought to enjoy over this year. The gains are taxes with 15%. Total taxes of B: 315 credits.
B pays more in taxes, why? Why do people want to punish savings? Do Americans want all companies/credit to be owned by foreigners?
But why should it go to the government? Why not donate a billion to Habitat for Humanity? Red Cross? Hospital for Sick Children? If it goes to the government, they'll just use it to bail out GM or some mega-bank!
The guys that gnaw off your limbs (the gov takers & their idealists [Gates in this example]) hold to a nasty morality that most of us despise. But what do we make of the guy getting his limbs gnawed off while sanctioning the parasites' claims to his toes, and maybe his fingers; but surely no more than his ankles and wrists?
They are taking BLOBS of our money (and hence decades of our work output) b/c we say they have a right to blobs of our money (and hence years of our work output).
The biggest point is that Gates can actually sit up there and say yes, maybe the rich should pay a bit more in taxes indicates he is not a greedy individual and probably speaking the truth. Then again, Obamas probably all BS too. He received millions from big companies to campaign back then. It's hard for me to believe that he will now turn his back on them.
If you want these people to invest their money, the rate of return must be adequate to cover taxes. This means if I invested $100 million, my return better pay for the taxes any gains cause, so, the public works projects my invested money is funding will cost all cities and towns more to borrow the money for those projects. That means that everyone's local tax bill will necessarily rise to cover that increase in tax my (haha) $100 million generates. This is but one unintended consequence.
The only reason I can imagine that Bill Gates would take such a position is to have Obama on his side the next time the government decides to slap him with more anti-trust suits. Purely a suck up decision to buy government anti-trust insurance.
So let's say a businessman made $10 million in income last year and was taxed at 35%, that's $3.5 million being dropped into DC's black hole. If said businessman were allowed to keep his money, he could have invested it in a smaller start up company, expanded his own business, developed a better product, hired on more workers and so on. Think of it this way, that 3.5 mil is 116 jobs that pay $30,000 a year that won't exist now because the government thinks they can put it to better use.
Just get rid of that socialist bitch. If he gets another term, you are in deep shit. He's gonna take your spirit away and you will turn into one whiny, weak, self-hating, insecure country, like the ones you see in Europe. To socialists this is a sign of advanced civilization. It's nothing but self-destruction.
I love how Gates says "people like me" don't pay their fair share... Who the f*** are the people like Gates? There's about 5 people that are anywhere near Gates. Buffet and Soros are two of them and both of them are making the case that everyone pay higher taxes. All three of them are welcome to write checks to the government for however much they want!
This is all the wrong dialogue. What everyone should be saying is, if the secretary is paying higher than Buffet then let's bring her taxes down to lower than Buffet's. Let's LOWER TAXES FOR EVERYONE!
Bill Gates & Warren Buffet make me sick. If you want to pay more, shut up about other peoples taxes and write the damn check.
Congressman Campbell of CA introduced a bill in the 111th congress, (H.R. 87), to add a line to IRS tax forms for contributions. So that blowhards like Gates & Buffet could 'put their money where their mouth is'.
Of course Pelosi never let it to the floor.
I would love to see something similar introduced now in a Republican led house.
That last point he makes right at the end is very powerful. Aren't we guaranteed equal treatment under the law? If so, why does the law say some pay at one rate, and others pay at another rate? Shouldn't it be one rate, one law for all people?
I feel like the left in America hates success. I'm from a refugee family from the Middle East, and my father had to live in meager conditions for a lot of his life. Now he has a great job in Engineering because he worked and studied harder than anyone I know so my family could live comfortably. Somehow that makes him and the rest of us bad people. I recently graduated myself and have gotten a job in Finance. Which means I'm not longer the subject of sympathy, I'll become the subject of scorn.
@mites7 Maybe it might depend on how you conduct business and your ethics? It seems like cons, at least the trash PJ Media attracts, worship money and success regardless of how someone achieved it.
@mites7 You and your father are what made America Great. We need more emigrants like you, and some of us that are born here should spend some time somewhere we are not in titled to something, simply because we suck up oxygen.
@mites7 "I feel like the left in America hates success."
Well yeah, U R right, in fact they do. It comes from that 1960's mentality fostered by ultra-Leftist teachings the baby boomer bought into to rebel against their parents. And then look at who Obama's mentors are.. like at least an accessory to murderer and her protected wealthy terrorist husband with the last name of Ayers. Look up Frank Marshall Davis a mentor of Obama for another. Obama IS the Manchurian candidate.
That secretary, when you understand the context, easily shows that this whole ordeal is all about greed. She pays more in taxes than the guy she works for. But she is still a multi millionaire. It's all about envy.
why is the host talking 80% of the time btw? I tuned in too hear the guests talking, not the host. The guests are the ones with qualifications, the host is not.
I guess you missed all that harping on the rich's tax rate? That's class warfare. The "rich" are responsible for the vast bulk of the federal government's revenue. What the hell does it matter if $3 million in taxes is only 20% of an income compared to what you pay which for half of the country is ZIPPO?
BTW, Buffet owes a $1billion in back corporate taxes and his secretary pays more because she makes $450k a year, and he pays himself only $100k.
