  • Is there two versions with different lyrics to this song?

  • Wow. Such a quality guy. He says "I will try to make this extra special...put a lot of emotion into it." In a time where musicians show up on stage drunk and perform their whole shows drunk/with no class or respect to the fans, you have a gem in Jesse Lacey wanting to give it his all with every song. I don't want to jinx it...but 0 dislikes. Quality review by the fans for a quality performer.

  • "I am just a man who knows how to steal" epic change there

  • There's so many people in there. But, he leaves them all speechless. So amazing.

  • jesse never ceases to amaze me.

  • What a nice man

  • I wish they would come to Germany one day...I missed the last time when they were close in Austria...but that was 3 years ago...Jesse is amazing.

  • I love the crowd in this song. They didn't say a word. That's how it should be.

  • @ShallowBayBandit they didnt know the song. i saw brand new once and everyone sang every song, i could still here them though

  • @japots90 Naah man, that's just Brand New fans for you. They know to just shut up and listen to Jesse Lacey.

  • @princessjezzica I wish that were true.

  • This made my stomach hurt.

That's how fucking good it is.

  • there is something so incredibly cool about the way the video turned out... like it was intentionally pop art or abstract art. Just makes me love jesse lacey and brand new more.

  • Amazing song and amazing live performance...

  • This is absolutely beautiful. I like Sowing Season on the album, but it was never my favorite, but I absolutely love what they do with it live. I've seen them three times and it's incredible every time.

  • Yeah.

  • No matter how much success is handed to that man... He will always be just as humble as he was when he only had a handful of fans. I wish every musician would learn a lesson or two from mr Lacey about not being a douche. By far the greatest musician on stage and the sweetest kid off stage. Great video:)

  • FOR REAL. Jesse Lacey is the kindest major musician ive ever met.

  • @Blondeninja311 seriously you speak the truth, Kanye should job shadow Mr. Lacey, for two reasons. One: so he learns humility and how to act like an actual human being. two: so he learns how to make good music

  • @Pwallable i think 110% of musicians/ celebrities should job shadow him:)...

  • Fucking amazing.

  • *clap clap*

  • Great great song

  • This is glorious.

  • I am in love with this man.

  • this is better than the album version

  • atleast 100 posts are from me also lol..

this is another artist thats under appriciated

  • Haha I don't think so...

  • he is an amazing artist

  • o wow nevermind i just realized like a whole similar paragraph

  • i looked up the rudyard kipling poem but im not seeing the connection

  • The connection to what?

  • A few lines from the song are the same as a poem called "If" by Rudyard Kipling. Love the poem, love this song.

  • I knew that Jesse uses a few lines from "If", which is a great poem about growing up.

I just didn't see how PaintballPride didn't see the connection.

  • amazingamazingamazing

    jesse is so brilliant

  • I am not your friend

I am just a man who knows how to feel

    I am not your friend

    I'm not your lover,

    I'm not your family.

    ...wow.. epic

  • haha, heyyy mike!

  • at least 100 of these views are from me

  • I live off this song right now.

  • amazing..just amazing.

  • oh my god

  • my favorite song from the album, or demo. or whatever. XD

  • Anyone know where I can download a copy of this video?

  • great great great great

  • i was never really a big fan of sowing season until i witnessed this exact performance live. this was the performance that made me fall in love with this song.

  • I thought Sowing Season was good, but I saw Brand New, Thrice, and mewithoutyou in Pittsburgh, in December. He just does this so amazing live, and now Sowing Season is my favorite Brand New song.

  • for sure man, i seen that concert in minnesota. jesse lacey is the man.

  • God damn.. this blew my mind.

I absolutely love Untitled 08.. there is so much emotion in it. It's heartbreaking.

"Listening at night.. waiting for a sound to come up the stairs.. listening at night.. for slamming doors, in the car park, yeah.."

  • in which version does he sing those lyrics??

  • In untitled 08.

  • beautiful

  • the crazy stretch is just him stretching his fingers from a powerchord on the 3rd string (g chord) then keeping his 2 fingers on the 5th frets, but lowering the low e string to the second.

  • anyone know what he's playing later in the song..where its like 2nd fret 4th and 5th, that crazy stretch..?

  • Capacity for the venue where this was filmed is 250.

  • Comment removed

  • This was at the Parish, a smaller venue attached to the House of Blues in New Orleans.

  • the shows should be between 150 to 400 people.

i would say the 2nd stanza is as follows

    "Praying for his life

Fighting off THE ZEROS with his shipmates

    Huddled in the CORRIDORS

They dropped the bomb in '45"

all about world war 2.... dunno how it relates to the song...

  • I could be wrong but I believe Leo Lacey is either his grandfather or father.. he's thanked in the liner notes of either Your Favorite Weapon or Deja Entendu, I don't really remember which.

  • maybe it's quarters instead of corridors.

  • it is.

  • @jpb6892

    heros = zeros

    corals = corridors

  • @jpb6892 I think the line is actually "fighting off the zeros with his shipmates". Or at least that makes more sense.

  • @jpb6892 zeros***

  • hes pretty much the most amazing dude ever.

    Pretty much my hero lol.

  • word

  • this version should have been included on the album!!!!

  • This is so beautiful. I read "If" for the Poetry Out Loud contest we did at school && this song is the reason I chose it. <3

  • haha, really?

i did the same thing, but just had to read it to my english class.

it's actually a really really good poem too...

  • Yeah it is! Even after the contest, I still recite it somethimes. It's awesome. :]

  • the "If" poem is hanging up in my bathroom, we were so freaked to find "Twisted up by knaves, to make a trap for fools" in both

  • What's the name of the poem?

  • "IF"

  • what was fantastic.

  • that was supposed to say "THAT was fantastic"

  • the only line from that poem he used was "Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;"

  • lol really?

in the album liner notes it says that only the 2nd verse references the poem (that's for the album version obviously)

  • hey does anyone know were i can get all the demos from fight off your demons? or even a song list of whats on the cd? thanks

    ps jesse is unreal

  • The Brand New wikipedia page contains the tracklisting. They're under "New Album Demos". You can find them on just about any torrent site.

  • I LOVE this man.

  • asdkjfs;l

my lord. i love jesse lacey.

  • Can something tell me if thats an acoustic eletric or an eletric with an amp?

  • if you can dream and not make dreams your master, if you can think and not make thoughts your aim; if you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same; if you can bear to hear the truth you've have spoken, twisted up by knaves to make a trap for fools; or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools.

  • wooow this performance is amazing!!

  • rudyard kipling is the bard of British imperialism.

"take up the White Man's Burden--

send out the best ye breed--

go bind your sons to exile,

    to serve your captives' needs;

    to wait in heavy harness,

    on fluttered folk and wild--

    you new-caught sullen peoples,

    half devil and half child"

thats from the five nations and the seven sea's which he wrote in 1899.. if that's not racist i don't know what is.

  • why was rudyard kipling an imperious bastard?

  • Imperialist, think about Great Britain's former rule over what is now India.

  • oh ok, i googled it even more. that makes sense, thanks

  • He actually explained it at the show that I attended in NC. The first thing he sings is about his Uncle who was in World war II.

He also talked about how they wrote the song and how their bass player left without telling them and went back home and that is where the song kinda stemmed from.

  • garrett left?

  • Im not sure but i went to both shows in philly a few weeks ago and he wasnt there

  • the ones in the electric factory? i was at one, i thought he was there, but i couldnt really see

  • well i know that garrett is still in the band cuz he was definately at looney tunes and gramercy

  • its amazing how he commands a room and hes so quiet and small. when hes on stage, hes larger than life it seems like.

  • That is one amazing performance I gpt chills.

  • amazing quality. he's amazing

  • by original do you mean the album track, or demo?

i personally prefer this and the demo to sowing season...

  • The ambient guitar makes this song very powerful. Although it doesn't surpass the original, it is a great alternative version.

  • i cant stop smiling watching this.

  • I think this is like the original demo. Not Sowing Season.

  • Close, but not quite. After listening to the original demo again, this seems to be a weird hybrid of the two, with the verses switched around and some modified lyrics thrown in for good measure.
