No, the on camera flash is used just to signal the SB-600 to fire, it will have no effect whatsoever on the final image.

If you don't want to use the built in camera flash you can either purchase the SU-800 wireless flash trigger for the SB-800 OR buy the SC-17 flash cable to attach to your camera.
