Killer aria for the basses... So high and exhausting. Plishka is doing quite a good job. Ramey had the same teacher, Armen Boyajian, and one can hear it.
Wonderful! I've never performed this role but I've studied it. It took me months to find the sheet music. Often the much easier aria "Vasto Theatro" is performed. If "La Del Ceil" is done it is often by a lighter bass baritone because it's so florid. Ramey of course sings it very well but not as well as this.
I remember once I saw Plishka riding on the outside of a cable car in SF. I stopped my car and yelled at him "Paul Plishka". He looked confused. I then yelled "I'm a fan". Still am.
I don't think I can help you. It was very hard to find the sheet music. Eventually I found an obscure company on the web. The copy they sent me was all marked up. I don't know why this particular aria's music is so hard to find. Seems odd.
@nakedbass "how you eventually found the sheet music for this aria": It's in the critical edition, published by Ricordi. The piano-vocal version is in two volumes, with this aria in an appendix in volume 2.
Wonderfully idyllic work !!!

There are so many better interpretations. e.g. Samuel Ramey, Wolfgang Schöne, Ildebrando d'Arcangelo,....

also Michele Pertusi, I love his Alidoro.

WHAT!!?? Idebrando's is half step down and Samuel Ramey is great but not at this level compared with Plishka.

Plishka's performance is inconspicuous. His vocal technique isn't the best! I think it's not his best role.

Perhaps you don't quite understand what inconspicuous means.

I agree... Anyone who can sing this aria this well has a first class vocal technique...
