It's probably my fault that he never had a number 1 hit, in UK Me and people like me simply could not afford to buy these records. But we realised that they were great.Love you Gene. thanks for half a century of absolute enjoyment.
I am not interested in the colour of a singer, only in his music.
Little Richard stole the style of Esquerita who was the originator of that type of music. If you are unknown with that .You can hear Richard Penniman admit that this was the case on a cd on Bear Famaily records In the time Penniman was singin' gospel Eskew Reeder was busy with his famous Rockstyle.
Besides that one does not need a hitrecord to become immortal! So many wellknown stars with hits are completely forgotten.
Come on... this has nothing to do with Rock and Roll, This is an orchestra with a nice singin' guy. Rock and Roll is ESQUERITA and not this commercial shit, allthough he is singin'great!
@jt123egypte Esquerita wasn't white fella and noway was he as good as Little Richard...i don't think he had one single hit.this isn't rock n roll you are right but gene made many great rock n roll records.
wow that was cool indeed, to think he lived in chronic pain all that time and still ripped it up for the world, never again to see in this world, what a waste and loss for music.
We have to thank the arrival of You Tube A Gene Vincent fan from way back Never realised he sang such great ballads as are appearing on You Tube His range from My Favourite Dance in the Street to these Ballads is incredible But the strangest thing of All is he never had a No.1 Not even in Top Ten in UK Highest he ever achieved was No.15 Why ??? I dont know or care. He Was Unique As was Elvis ; Roy Orbison Long Live Rock n Roll / Rockabilly The First & Forever TeddyBoy
Well, one is rather accustomed to comment about Buddy Holly by February 3rd; but one is also urged to share the emotion felt from hearing one of the most beutiful voices ever performing such a jewel. Thanks both for your posts and for your fantastic website!
This is a very moving song, especially when you think it was recorded 11 May 1960, only a few weeks after he was involved in the car crash that killed his friend Eddie Cochran. R.I.P.
As a kid I preferred the faster songs by Gene to these slow, sentimental numbers, but now I'm an old(er) man they hit me over the head with their beauty and sincerity.
Cant remeber how many times i listened to this as a 7-8 yr old. On my dads Dansette. If i recall it was the B Side to Pistol packin Mama. I grew up listening to Gene Eddie Cochran and Fats Domino. Dont get any better than that.
Aujourd hui presque tous disparus ....Beaucoup d emotion en regardant toutes ces videos !!!cela me rappelle mes 15 ans et quel talent !!!!Merci ,GENE!!!!!!
I can't believe i'm the first to comment on this video. What incredible voice control Gene had, what a beautiful song, the first time I'd heard it. Thanks

One of Gene Vincents Great Ballads
Huge following of Fans now as when alive
It has always astounded me how this Great Artist never had a No.1 in UK
Not even a record in UK Top 10
Highest Ever No. 16
Goes to Prove To Be One of The Best You Don't need Chart Success
My own personal feelings is he never got over losing his great friend Eddie Cochran
Touring in those days very long journeys & tiring & without his friend Lonely + pain from leg.
But A TRUE ARTIST
As once on Stage Always Gave His Best
