The variations of the Model 29 were in production before, during and after "Dirty Harry."
The original Model 29 was superseded by the Model 29-1 in 1960. Since then there have been many variations: Model 29-2 in 1969, the Model 29-3 in 1983, and the Model 29-4 and 29-5 in 1988 and 1990 respectively. In 1994 the 29-6 began production. The 29-7 started production in 1998 with changes to the locking mechanism. S&W currently manufacturers several models, including The Classic Model 29.
The model 29 was discontinued before the movie dirty harry was made but clint eastwood had a friend who was the main guy at smith and wesson at the time and clint had him make two from parts. a Model 29 6.5" and a Model 29 8". Clint eastwood spent some time at the range with the two guns to feel the recoil of the .44 magnum. The blanks where made from scratch too. wasnt till brandon lee got shot in the crow that blanks were made for the .44 mag.
Bowling pins make awesome targets , some bowling allies sell their old ones dirt cheap if not free . They're tough & can take some good hits B4 coming apart .
@DourCynic1 i know your comment is old, but there is a guy on here who has a range in his backyard, and he hit his 23o yard target a few times with a 44 mag. pretty awesome.
you all can take you arguing somewhere else. the video was made as a joke and out of boredom. the film used a .41 mag. and claimed it as a .44. it's hollywood bitches, what do you expect. take you film knowledge arguments to momma's house.
Read up on it some more, I heard the .41 mag story is nothing more than a rumor. Also, the dvd credits has one of the films producers or writers squashing the rumor as well.
@rb56 Clint Eastwood himself said it was a Smith & Wesson Model 29 in an interview he did about the movie. I saw it a few months ago. It is a myth created who knows where that it was a .41 Magnum. It was in FACT a Model 29 .44 Magnum.
There are a lot of conflicting stories of the exact model used in the original Dirty Harry, quite a few years ago I read that is was a mod. 29 punched out to .45 LC beacause because the studio had a surplus of blanks for that caliber.
if you had to blow someones head clean off, what gun would you use? please respond!!!!

I like this video, it was funny. I would hate to be the bowling ball. The mod.629 is a sexy pistol.

Cool. I shot a golf ball once with a .357 but I didn't get any pictures because it went away when I finally hit it.

Hahaha, that was cool. Always wondered what was inside a bowling ball and now I know, thanks!
