Parents and grandparents need only sit a 7-year-old down and allow the child to hear some of these songs, and the kids will have a natural affinity for them. It's only when kids are subject to peer pressure and the media that they become close-minded.

@emeraldseagull That's right. I grew up with this music as a result of growing up with my grandparents. The older generation needs to instill better music taste in the young.
@lskarin I mostly agree. But there are exceptions. Otis Reddings version of "White Christmas" is my favorite. (And to be a bit of a geek, he originally did "Respect", and Aretha made that song her own. There are others, but I won't bore. Just had to add my .02.
When my Mom was pregnant with me in 1964 this was still a very popular song. This was my Dad's best friend's favorite song.........so you guessed it my name is Tammy. ; )
Debbie Reynolds does a GREAT job of singing this song and it is hers. Still, it is nice being a guy hearing other men singing it from a male point of view.
The Ames Bothers sang this song as the credits roled as the movie came on. It was anticipated that their version would be the hit version, but Debbie Reynolds sang the song late in the movie and her charm and beautiful rendition were so well received that her version was also released as a single and really caught on. Both versions are fantastic.
ILoveJenni47, I discovered the Ames Brothers on here, and I really enjoy listening to their songs now. Y'all keeping posting good music on here so I can discover it! All the best!
Tammy was my neighbor, sweet girl, and she was faced with the same dilemma as Debbie's was. Right about the time that Billy Swann asked the question, "Does your baby need a daddy? 'I Can Help.' " And would have, too, but it wasn't in the cards.
I have this record in my baby book, Tamm, RC SH

The Ames brothers harmonize like only siblings can harmonize -- these guys have always been a class act, And, I remember when they were popular.

What I like is the performers sung the song mostly "straight."
What I hate is performers distorting any cover piece where their performance, such as it is, distorts the original piece.
Compare the National Anthem done by Robert Merrill in Yankee Stadium with all the subsequent abortions at the "Super Bowl."

Thanks. It's a shame that this fine vocal quartett is almost forgotten for the younger generations.
