  • i loled at "and a wah just in case he needs it"

  • Its really weak James and Kirk or even their tech's not take part in these kind of equipment tour videos

  • @WayneWiblin yh they did, search of "kirk guitar" on youtube

  • "And the Wah here, just in case he needs it."

Did anyone else smell the irony?

  • cool

  • I want either a Mesa boogie Dual reclicfier or one of his randall amps.. What ones better?

  • @smiley643

If its that specific Dual Rectifier (Blackface), then the recto. If not, the Randall.

  • I just read he uses gauge 11 strings, that suprises me, he must have strong has hell fingers.

  • pretty cool good info

  • Comment removed

  • Why is there a SUCK button in his pedal board?? At 1:35

  • @Mixer8900 because that button is used to edit all the pre sets and settings for the GCX switcher, and if you step on it during a show you can not switch anything, no effects or amps, and you suck for stepping on it :P

  • what the shit's up with all of the damn wah?

  • His tech does the effect switching so Kirk can focus more on his Wah technique

  • Kirk has the same tech from the Cunning Stunts DVD. That's pretty cool. I figured bands would just go through techs like underwear.

  • most of it makes sense, my only question would be why he has 2 rackmount wah's going instead of one, not to mention he has the others scattered around

  • @Sean2592 those rackmount crybaby's are able to use 4?(not sure the exact number) separate pedals on one signal. that way, you can have 4, or 8, in this case, wah pedals scattered throughout the stage.

  • This guy is amazing because hes talking and im like, er what, dude you know your shit , but to the layman it means fuck all, but as long as it sounds ace, who gives a mother

  • I heard he has a wah in every room of his house. He needs to be near one at all times. I bet he replaced his accelerator pedal in his car to look like a crybaby.

  • And tell me for what is this everything- Head, wireless, some foot effects, switcher, cabinet and that's what guitarist needs

  • The first minute of this vid basicaly summed up the price of my house! xD

  • @Metallica4LifeDude with 2 dual rectifiers to top it off...lol

  • @pistonsfreak3 well, i see a crapload of gear not just these...

  • i wish i knew what all this stuff did D:

  • Whoa, How do those rack mounts work? How do all those go into the guitar? Do they go into the amp like a pedal, then into the cab/speakers? Why are there 4 amps? Rack mounts are really confusing, can anyone explain them in detail to me or know of a place that does? I tried to google it but it didn't work so well.

  • @TheEternalLeader Yeah, you got it, they work like effects pedals. Think of them as a really fancy Digitech RP500. The main brain of the unit sits safe backstage, while it's controlled by the guitarist from the stage. It's an alternative to lugging around a shit-ton of pedals and amps. They're useful, but expensive as hell, and confusing. And they have to be edited using a computer, as opposed to just using a few knobs and buttons on the unit. Hope this helped.

  • "a wah here incase he needs it" he uses it in every solo!

  • @TOJxKiLLSTeaLeR yeah but he has like 10 in random places so thats there near his pedalboard incase he needs it

  • kirk has a wah in his bedroom, his bathroom, his guitar room and his stripper room

  • @Jackyouroff kirk has a wah ap on his phone.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jackyouroff

LOL. I can just imagine him blowing a massive fart and putting it through wah-wah.

    bfffft-WAAAAHHWAAAH-fffft

  • 2:22 Lars father ??

  • @rockeromero nope

  • He really loves his wah pedals, doesn't he? :P

  • How much $ for all this? Wow!!

  • Wow what a lucky guy, any one know any good settings for a peavey bandit 112? Or any good equipment/gear you would recommend?

  • @callofandy

    Diezel VH4

  • @XylophonEichel Cool thanks ill check it out :)

  • the successful

  • i wish i had an axe fx so i don't need a shit load of gear...

  • I think they play the songs 1/2 step down so that Jaymz can hit the high notes easily just the same way U2 does it, Listen to the live recordings.

Was that a TC Electronic D-two? This was clearly before his signature Wah pedal came out.

Wow they have really taken A LOT of stuff out of the racks. Great vids

  • @UnixStudios They record in standard but play E flat live, i think your right about the high notes.

  • they cut off the answer to the best question in the whole thing :p

  • the tech guy could pass off as lars dad

  • what are the switching systems?

  • I have often seen Line 6 pedals and the Whammy from Digitech but Kirk never use those on stage, so why are they here?

  • @Binouzours

well you can sometime hear him using it - but I admit this is quite rare.

for example I remember that he used the delay during the solo of Orion when they played it on the last show of the world magnetic tour : /watch?v=4b2PdYsu6is

and here you can see a solo where he uses the whammy as an octaver I believe:

    watch?v=QKiormZsvEg&feature=related

  • @Binouzours He use them on live

  • @Binouzours he uses the whammy on DEVIL DANCE

  • i seen these guys 2 nights ago and i have to say i like the sound of kirks rig alot better james tone was kinda over saturated but kirks was just tight and really powerfull sounding , and im more into rythem playing than solo playing !

i think il keep my dual rec

  • @munchy040 i saw them last thursday was friken amazing and sounded great at rod laver arena

  • @KhammettJpageAsmith Are you a Melbournian?

  • @disCoverTheCover2010 hell yeah mate

  • Can you imagine, every night having fresh strings put on your guitar for you before going on stage.

  • I wish I had a guitar tech and a crap load of gear.

  • @Marshallstack3203 all of us musicians feel the same join the group

  • @Marshallstack3203 and for the price of about $100k it can all be yours

  • daaamn justin got real old since 96 when he did an interview for kirks guitars years ago..

  • @xxsladedethxx yeah dint recodnice him before he started talkingxD

  • wow justin looks alot like jack nicholson in this videoXD

  • they have two of everything, so that when they are playing one show, the dpubles can be shipped to the next city and set-up,

  • so are they playing the tunes from the new album half step down live ? anybody know

  • @munchy040

back when i saw them they wer playing almost everything full step down

  • @munchy040 I believe live they play 1.2 tune down still. The whole purpose of that was to protect James' voice.

  • @munchy040 they play the majority of tunes live half step down, but for songs like seek and destroy they play it full step down, likewise with sad but true etc etc

  • what kinda whammy pedal does kirk have

  • @Metallica1111beatles it looks like a digitech of some kind

  • @Metallica1111beatles looks like a whammy IV

  • @Metallica1111beatles digitech whammy

  • EVH FLANGER 2:02

  • man id kill to touch the mummy guitar...let alone play it..

  • Kirk is the shit!!

  • Money !!

  • Kirk rules !!!

  • Kirk is addicted to wah pedals like a crackead is to crack!! ROFL "another wah just in case he needs it."......but Kirk is the shit and the wah pedal really is amazing though.

  • WOW metallica really use Ernie Ball strings! same as mine

  • @Mattesstross95 Well yeah if you look on the back of the packet it says that both James and Kirk use them.

  • @Mattesstross95 there isnt many other string options mate!lol

  • signature randall..........and another signature randall

  • What does he use the dual rectifier for? i thought he used the randall for everything.

  • @Lappy7 one amp cant do 3 good tones. the randall may have 3 different pre-amps but he usually uses only one pre amp (but he uses 2 amps for 2 different pre amps). that's why he still uses his old mesa amp (mostlly for clean tones.)

  • @Lappy7 It's a money thing.

  • WHAT GAUGE STRINGS DOES HE MOST LIKELY USE FOR STANDARD TUNING!?!??!?!

  • @BUFFW i know for a fact he uses 10-52

  • Is the Shure Wireless System used to get a wireless guitar signal?

  • @Quakelord1991

    Yes, I think so.

  • are those dbx gates like noisegates? or what do they do?

  • @IRONMAIDENrockinrio they are noisegates. Sometimes people call them gates for short.

  • I don't get how to work a rack

  • LMAO just in case he needs it ROFL!!!!

  • another signature randall haha nice

  • this is the top of the mountain..

  • complicated, damn

  • Does he use the dcr1sr or the dcr2sr???????!?!?!?!? Please respond, I'm making a metallica setup and I need to know

  • who the fuck needs all that shit

  • @headbagger63 pro's...

  • @DodekD dude i would be happy with one of those amps

  • @headbagger63 Kirk Hammett

  • @headbagger63

Professional musicians. A lot of the equipment helps enhance the signal, effects, and clean up the sound.

  • @sk8fakie i know dude but i fuckin what that shit

  • @headbagger63

Ha, I know what you mean man. I'm sure the equipment helps out a lot though. I'm working hard/saving up to buy pro gear so I'll be able to join a band signed to Victory Records.

  • @sk8fakie cool dude

  • infor what kirk needs a fucking whammy pedal I never heard a metallica song with whammy

  • shit, kirk has a guitar for every song lol. Im sure those are just a small percentage of all of his guitars too. lucky muthafucka

  • I heard a horror story about Cry Babies and pedal effects being stolen at nights...i'm much convinced it's Hammets fault.

  • Does he really use hat randal map

  • Lmao at megaguitarplayer

  • Kirk probably has about 50 wahs set up in random places

"What the fuck is a Crybaby doing by the Budweiser stand?"

  • yea that is funny just in case he needs it

  • what songs does he use the whammy pedal on?

  • i think only in devils dance

  • pretty much all of them!

  • your thinking of the wah.. not the whammy.. two different pedals

  • maybe sad but true...but i don't think

  • @sk8teur74250 na just wah

  • like none

  • i dont even know wat some of that stuff does

  • @minidavb

i think he uses it in The Thing That Should Not Be, along with the Wah Wah Pedal,,,, but i only think lol not to sure xD

  • @minidavb the thing that should not be!

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if he runs the Randall's and Mesa's in a wet/dry/wet rig or just A/B's them for different songs...

Something tells me Kirk isn't that big of a sonic experimentalist...

  • I wouldn't hesitate to say he runs them together. Rectos are pretty flubby and loose on their own, and their live tone is tight. And the dude didn't mention any rackmount EQ or pedal EQ, so I dunno.

  • nope, james is

  • they play every standard song half step

  • wrong

  • right.

  • @goldmaste78 right

  • @goldmaste78 Yes they do.

  • I think I understood a word.

  • has anyone noticed the suck button on the ground control pro?

  • Yee, I like it. I have the same as on Kirk's GC Pro. It's the EDIT button, so you better not push it during the show.

  • thats the dmc ground control. it controls all the midi commands, like the g major and randall heads

  • "just in case he needs it" hahahahah

  • @NoobCake99 ahahahahhahahhahahahhahahah

  • Very nice gear. But i have to day. I think its realy lame when someone els does the switching. other than main channels.

  • How's it lame? Would rather have them headbanging like crazy or down by their racks switching?

  • they have erverything twice, so if anything fails, or dont work or something like this, they switch over to the second amp an keep on rocking.

  • no,if you mean another rack copy, maybe, but in the same rack, for example they use 1 dual recto for getting distortion and the other recto as a slave for getting more power, just for distortion

  • yes, that is the other way to see this. to get more sound out of it or just as havarie.

  • @braulio9511 yeah i doubt he needs more power cause of the pa

  • @highspooky Don't forget that while they are playing a gig, half of their staff is already setting their equipment in the next stop of the tour, so they probably have everything 4x! Haha! Fuckn rich bastards!

  • @andreisidro actually thats not true on the death magnetic tour. this show loads in the same day of the show in about 6 hours, and comes down in about 2.5 to 3 hours, and travels to the next city by 7 am to start all over again. the summer sanitarium and stadium shows, those are ALL triple set shows, one going up, one coming down and one in production.

  • @smackythefrog23 Didn't know that! How do you know this stuff with such a detail? Did you work for them or are you just a massive fan?

  • @andreisidro not specifically for them, but I have worked as a roadie for several artists in the past and its pretty much all the same. The Stones for example actually use 4 sets. The stadium shows are so massive that that is the only way to do so. I DID work their show here in phoenix for the tour opener. Thats how it went. rigging call started at 4 am, general loadin started at 6, show was ready for soundcheck by 3 show then loadout at 11 concluding about 245 am.

  • @smackythefrog23 That's awesome dude! Just one more question. How did you end up with such job? I mean (and i'm sorry if it sounds pretty stupid, cuse it probably will) did you study to do that or did you learn with practice? I would love to do that kind of stuff, but I just have no idea on how to get in that "world". I mean I have some really basic knowledge of musical instruments so I can't just go to a band and say "I wanna be your roadie!" right?

  • @andreisidro in your city, or country there should be a union or company that does that work for you. I majored in theater in high school and began toting amps around for local bands back then. In the states there is a union called IATSE who do the majroity of staging work. there should be a company (if you live in a major city) who can start you on the path towards "that world" but expect to not get much sleep.

  • @smackythefrog23 Thanks!

  • and they're cool like that

  • Louder sound, tighter, more headroom. Plus with the 2 wah, gates, preamps. There backups. if one goes down, then the other is there as back up

  • The only reason to have two guitarheads is to connect them so they acting master and a slave to get more watts

  • there back ups incase one of them shits itself i think, the edge has the same, his whole rig is doubled backstage incase something blows...

  • in case anything breaks or goes down during a gig, every things backed up. Metallica cant really say 'sorry, cant finish the set, kirks amps fucked!' :P

  • i guess its in stereo or there 2 set ups just in case if the first rig brokes!!

  • @pyroman34 backups you idiot

  • thats what I call keepin it simple with the pedalboard (excluding the rack that is lol)

  • ...And a wah,..in case he needs it...

  • ...although he stands on it during many a solo. Nothing wrong with that. I love my Dunlop Crybaby.

  • yeah, I thought it was funny when the tech said... " in case he needs it " I agree , I love my Morley and use it constantly !!

  • Ya, I just got the Kirk Hammett sig wah and its amazing.

  • what ever happened to just a guitar and a amp?

  • ah, metallica happened. lol

  • The garage days are over, sorry dude

  • Plenty.

  • Kirks rig is more straight forward then james' rig but then again james is the rhythm guy so he is the one who needs the color is his rig but unlike kirk he doesn't use a "signature amp" to get that tone. He just uses a good pre amp and a great head to get that tone.

  • we need more videos like this..

    good stuff

  • lol...you don't have to like kirk but saying he sucks is an immature and arrogant statement, he didn't get to where he is today by sucking now did he? you may not like his style but millions of people do, get over it.
