  • The video has the facts wrong. The volt doesn't get 60mpg if you just run on gas. It gets 30mpg. you ALWAYS should charge it overnight.

  • hahaha Chevy just anounced they are cutting production of the Volt because they only sold 1600 units out of the projected 60,000 . that means they met less than 3% of their goals. way to go Chevy, you have done it again. now go ask Obama for more bail out money.

I am considering to buy one of the Toyota hybrids soon, my parents have a 3rd generation Prius , everything about the car is nice. (Toyota Build Quality) 24,000 base price VS. 41,000 for the Volt, Chevy what were you thinking ?

  • Cant wait to see car tech within the next 5 years =) I know Im getting ahead of myself but I cant help it! lol

  • Take that Ford :D

  • A 3 Billion Dollar Tax Payer Boondoggle. Now that they recalled, aka "campaign", more than they made, I think it is safe to say that we shouldn't let government have a say in the market.

  • this car looks way better than a gay prius

  • LOL, all that hasle to charge, hmmm okayyyyyy sit at a gas station out in the cold, or heat, for 10 minutes to fuel up, orrrrrrr, pull into your gaurage, fyi much more comfortable, and no line to get into your gaurage, and no driving to a destination to get your "fuel source" (another pain fyi) and simply grab the cords pistol grip, plug in, walk away..... shuch a huge hassle!!!! NOT.. unless your a cry whinner? But even if you were than the volt is still better for fueling up.

  • @Deanzsyclone I thought the same thing! Its a hassle if youre a lazy slug. That or you dont care to save money on gasoline.

  • The most anticipated car in my mind is, the Tesla Model S.

  • @MrLivePositive8 and it is more expensive than the Volt.

  • It's not what you drive, it's how you drive it!

  • If this is an introduction to the future of cars, then gas will be like 30 bucks a gallon,

until gas is no longer needed. Oh.. and they'll make their money some how.. unless it's really for the survival of mankind!

  • Make way for "the future" she need not explain herself, just as the invention of the first computer, she was there!

  • This car is a joke, and slap in the face to anyone who knows anything about cars and what people has come up with to increase their gas mileage. Back in 1959 Renault sold a car that could get 40mpg, that was using materials that were twice as heavy as they use today. In 1962 Ford built a couple T-birds that accidentally had their experimental carburetor installed that allowed it to get 42mpg. That's been 50+ years ago and they still can't build a car to do 50 mpg? Give me a break.

  • @DoWiseThings you are a bullshit.

  • @DoWiseThings I love how stricter safety and emission standards mean nothing.... Cars now are larger, safer, and faster... oh yeah... and they get similar to better gas mileage. Ignorance...

  • i drove one. i rather liked it. not fast but decent for what it had to be.

  • @02:25

And the winner is Toyota Camry

  • wtf is that yogurt wearing?...seriously

  • This car changes everything.

  • I believe this car should have been released into the market at least about 8 years ago; in fact they were making some good electric cars back in the late 90s. Just watch 'Who Killed the Electric car'.

Power train seems to be way too complicated to repair (expensive to maintain) not to mention the through the roof price tag. I believe it's just a rip off and those in power want you to still be dependent on gasoline and other source of energy where you have to pay loads of money.

  • 1:09.... this white stuff.. lmao

  • errr

  • great review.

  • This dude could not find a better shirt to wear... well i am guessing it will attract Homosexuals to buy the volt now.

  • You don't get 60 MPG from the volt if you don't charge it you stupid CNET guy, you yourself mentioned earlier in the video that on gasoline the Volt gets 35 mpg city, 40 mpg highway. hurr durrr

  • @redbeast2 quick to piont out bad things huh prius lover

  • @MrAhhh112 prius lover, where do you get that from?

  • @redbeast2 face it. its better than any bs prius . it just costs more and the price will go down. go to japan if you like their cars so much. hurr durrr

  • @MrAhhh112 "go to japan if you like their cars so much. hurr durrr"

    wat.

where do you get that i like "their" cars so much?

  • @MrAhhh112 lols yeah this piece of shit weighs almost 4000 pounds prius kills this junk on wheels america #2

  • @bosanaczauvjek i hate it when people just declare something and give no reason. tell me why this is "junk on wheels" or ill just assume ur an ignorant jap lover. go suck their dicks

  • @MrAhhh112 like isaid weighs 4000 lbs watch cnn they are gonan re call them because when they crash battery cathes fire and sets whole car a blaze also they sold about 5000 of them in usa and it represents less then 1 % of their total sales ie fail

  • @bosanaczauvjek who said they are going to recall them? thats just a probe you idiot. and that volt was the same car used for crash tests. the volt is new technology and has limited production and supplies. there is a shortage of batteries so the car is not availible in large numbers yet. give me a break you idiot. cant even understand that...

  • In Conclusion, we should emphasize the importance of producing higher quality energy density batteries instead of producing poor quality batteries to make more money at the cost of people. More research should be conducted to make batteries even more advanced than Lithium. People are spending too much money on batteries.

  • Resources are being wasted because we continue to produce these low energy batteries that require replacement all the time. This causes Millions of Toxic Alkaline Batteries which contain Magnesium and Zinc to be disposed of at the Land Fill.

  • More Advanced Batteries should be researched. Rechargeable Lithium Batteries should be for sale at Local Markets. However, Battery Companies continue to extend the usage of Alkaline Batteries failing to neglect the fact that people are spending Billions of Dollars on poor energy density batteries that cost The Economy and The Environment to Make.

  • Lithium Batteries are said to last 5X's longer than regular batteries, yet some experts say they only last twice the time. That's not very efficient to be making something that cost 10X's the electricity to make.

  • Alkaline Batteries are old technology. They hold no energy density whatsoever. As a matter of opinion, I sometimes think their getting weaker by the day for some reason. Maybe good batteries are no longer around, or that we're getting too cheap with making potent batteries for people to use.

  • Costco is reversing course and pulling its chargers out of the ground, explaining that customers do not use them. There are literally millions no, thousands no, hundreds no, dozens of those entering the market on a monthly basis. Won’t be long and car companies will be paying people to drive these things so they can comply with the mileage standards imposed by biggov.

  • If gas prices stay the same, this car will save me $30,000 over 8-10 years driving 20,000 miles per year versus my SUV.....

  • @MrEnergyCzar what do you drive? 95 chevy suburban?

  • @SuperUtubecritic The 17 mpg 04 Highlander....

  • 1996 ford f250 CRD turbo diesel and a 2005 wrx subaru 5mt sedan.

  • its so much nicer than the 2010 model

  • hey dumbass..

go home, plug it in, go into your house..20 seconds extra..full charge

  • WoW half of these comments are pathetic get your facts before posting. This car just came out give it a chance, This is a electric car and yes it still has a gas motor but it is not a hybrid because this car never drives off the gas motor. Yes even I think it should go more then 40 miles before switching over to gas but I'm sure they will up the distance in the future. Hybrids are a dead technology and they will start fading out like the prius(thank god) yeah they get 50MPG , diesel get thesame

  • @studio383 Wow, talk about calling the kettle black. This IS a Hybrid. No matter what you say, it still takes gas. What do you think a hybrid is? Second, how is the prius fading out. It's the number one selling hybrid car. That is outselling all other hybrids COMBINED. Plus they just made a deal with Ford to share the tech with the pickup trucks, and they just released the Pruis V, that is a larger family sedan. So yeah, get your facts right, before calling people pathetic...That's how you sound

  • I recently test drove a Chevy Volt. Although I was only able to test drive it for a few miles, my conception of the Volt is that it's a fuel efficient car. Those who own the car can speak more about it for they drive it daily. Navigation System and Instrument Cluster is the most Futuristic in the Market. Good car in my opinion.

  • best miles is to add a generator to the engine its self so the electric engine will sort of pay for itself sort of like how the starte relectric motor replaced the old self start

  • Give Bill Gates a couple of years, he's working on a nuclear reactor that runs off the waste modern reactors produce. We won't need to store it, we'll just burn it. Of course, @compukenny has a point; power grid'll never handle the load.

  • BOOM! 10'000 dollars to repair your bumper cause you just know that some sort of electrical shit'll just fucking break..

  • UK doesn't have this... we have the Nissan leaf.

The Government gives us a grant of £5000 off... it's still £23000!

  • jesus christ ! the front bumper is too low !!!

  • Save your money! 40 grand will buy a heluva lot of gas

  • @compukenny some people want 2 actually help the environment 2...not just think about themselves...

  • @rsxzx6r Electricity cost money. Electrical generating plants use coal. Doesn't that deplete natural resources. Perhaps there is a way to mine and transport coal without using oil in the process? I don't think so.

Nuclear power generation plants? They still have no proven method of storing nuclear waste.

sudenly its the year 2015 and we have thousands of of these 'lectric lemons running around and in need of charging 2 - 3 times a week. Our power grid can't handle that kind of load

  • @rsxzx6r

  • @compukenny duh....electricy does cost money...but it uses less and cost less than oil...i dont think companies and engineers wud look 2 this alternative if it werent viable...

  • OMG, that's an ugly baby...

Its like Chevrolet assigned a different committee on each section of the car

  • Damn.. I really want one but theres no way I can pay 40k

  • only thing is if cars start converting to electric motors, will our electricity bills start to skyrocket?

  • ... My question is, can this so called "game changer" run purely eletric for say... 1 year?

  • Seriously it's all most of us need. I seriously would never use gas. With gas prices going higher, i'm seriously thinking the price of the car is worth it when I wouldn't have to worry about what some big government cheese want us to pay for gas. Or when oil runs out..........

  • tooo expensive! for now.lets give it at least 5 yrs this type of vehicles will be in the 20s.

  • I wouldnt be suprised if before 2020 over 1/3 of the cars are electric... and within the next 5 years all current car models will have the optional electric motor package but it will be some stupid price like $5000+

  • If it's a $7500 tax 'credit' and not a rebate, just claim 9 on your W4 all year.

  • /watch?v=y3V3trzcKQk

  • Very nice review. Thanks!

  • 41k? Ill take the camaro ss please!

  • Definitely this guy is a conservative...What a twit...

  • People that have prius' think their farts smell heavenly.

  • I hate how everybody brings up the fact about the gas engine as if it mattered. Does anyone here seriously drive more than 40miles a day? My commute to and from work is a total of 18miles. That's 20mins to get there, 20mins to come back. Even if I blast the stereo and exploit the A/C, my driving will be anywhere between 95% to 100% electric. That's IF I chose not to plug the car at work... which I can...

  • @Senvae Yes, I see your point that most people don't drive that long for work. BUT, there are still people like my dad who needs to drive 70 plus miles due to the fact that he travels a lot for business trips. There are a lot of people that need the extra engine for the added miles or else it would just stop in the middle of the street. You also need to take in consideration of the weekends or free time when people travel or drive a lot with their family and so on.

  • @alex91008 If your dad needs 70miles than he can buy a Tesla Model S, but on average most people don't. This still doesn't make it a hybrid. It's more like an electric car with a back-up plan. So you might spend a little gas on a busy day, at least you didn't have to buy an extra vehicle and spend a whole LOT of gas like the Mazda Leaf or Mitsubishi Miev would suggest. Until fuel cells like the Honda Clarity become mass produced, the Volt is going to do an superb job.

  • @Senvae Yeah know. I was just making a point on why some people still need the gas engine if they are going to get a car like that. Yeah, anyways nice talking to you, stranger on the internet. LOL

P.S. It is actually a Nissan Leaf. And Don't get the Mitsubishi Miev because they only gave it a marginal on its crash test rating.

  • @Senvae obviously you don't live in Northern Virginia, here the I commute is 40 miles one way, yet because of traffic it takes on average 1:15 to get to work in the morning and up to 3 hours in the afternoon.....lol..

  • @fallendown2005 I don't. but since the commute is too long for any other electric vehicle, you're only choice is the Volt. Or just get a gas engine and burn off even more money.

  • @Senvae for the record, I drive 170km a day, 4 days a week, so range is important to some....

  • Comment removed

  • @Senvae my uncle drives about 200 miles every day and thats just to and from work

  • @RoboVic1 well he should move to a place closer to work then.

  • @MrAhhh112 he cant afford to move, not now at least

  • @RoboVic1 well then maybe he should work at a place closer to home then lol. 200 miles is long way. what is he, a teacher?

  • @MrAhhh112 he and my dad are mechanics and its their shop so he cant leave it

  • he sounds so much like fucking Glen Beck

  • did you say dinosaur cell?

  • So it's a hybrid....

Damn was expecting so much more.

  • love the car its beautiful its one of the greatest advances chevy has every had but the car are near unrepairable as soon as all your electric components begin to go bad the cost isnt worth fixing might as well by a new much like todays cell phones

  • the video hasnt started yet and i already hate this video because of the ad!

  • Don't waste your time or money with this car. If you do a long distance commute, you'll end up burning as much gas as a gas only car. Drivnig in the sweltering heat should be a lot of fun. With the A/C blasting away, the battery will be drained in no time and you will be stinking up the environment with your gas fumes like everyone else on the road driving gas only cars.

  • I don't think so. The Chevrolet Volt gets 30 Miles per gallon. That is Honda Civic territory. And if you can go 25 miles on a charge, you are basically paying $1.00/gallon. It also burns much cleaner. A car for those who care for the environment more than to better their pockets.

  • @bigsky1970 the gas is used to power the electric motor and help it recharge its battery when you cant pull over and plug in your car so your not "stinking up the environment" smart one.......

  • LOL HYBRID AHAHAHA XDDDDDDD how is that an electric car? man u are kidding me xDDDD Took them how long to make a hybrid engine? Wow... so fail...

And hassle to recharge so might as well fill up on fuel? wow.... guys... just by a Toyota Hybrid lol xDDDDD

  • @CalistoIce

It's an electric car because it can run for 40 miles WITHOUT A GAS ENGINE. 40 miles may not be long enough for some people, so the vehicle uses a gasoline generator to charge the batteries. NOT RUN THE CAR. Hybrid would mean that the car constantly runs on a combination gas/electric.

And when it ends up costing a few thousand more than a malibu, I dont think it looks all bad.

  • @CalistoIce The gas engine is only there to give you highway driving accessibility. They explained everything in this review but you're too dumb to read between the lines. City driving under 40ish miles in between charges is **ALL** electric. People like you are one of the many reason electric cars are taking so long to be released. I'd like to see your precious Prius spend less gas than the Volt does, don't think that will happen.

  • @Senvae Before you start flaming me, I hate the prius, because it's stupid and uses a lot of fuel consumption regardless. Secondly, it is not an ALL electric car. Like you said, UNDER 40 miles it is electric... AND it uses the engine to charge the electricity... true that it is powered by the electric motor only, but the fact that there is another fuel powered engine to RECHARGE the electric engine just makes it a hybrid in the end... It is like a Solar powered torchlight...

  • @CalistoIce ,

I have a Prius and I love it. It is way better than anything Chevy can make with their welfare queens for executives.

  • its not electric its a hybrid. really disappointing!!!!

  • @clarkisfat its not a hybrid, hybrids use gas engines to move when the electric motor isn't on, this car uses the electric motor to move at all times, it just uses the gas motor as a generator to make electricity to charge the battery, just like electric companies do.

  • How is this better for the environment when you're still burning fossil fuels for the electricity?

  • have a look at the renault fluence ZE -- a real electric car, including swapable batteries -- search for "Renault Fluence ZE Driving Footage "

  • We have the technology to have a real enviromentally safe car. The real problem is the big money has too much oil investment to lean towards alternatives. GM rush again to waste time and money!

  • "might not be worth the effort of recharging..." wow, and I thought I was lazy, lol

  • @CliffKFF

How much hassle is it to plug something in the wall anyway? geez.

  • @CliffKFF No kidding huh? Seriously CNET? You say that- I don't know if plugging in the ELECTRIC CAR is worth the effort? Seriously? Wow.

  • @mtaviator & @GollingFIAT: you both misunderstood my comment -- I was quoting from the video where the douche says he doesn't think a lot of people will think it will be worth the effort of plugging in -- I definitely don't agree with that. I think it is far easier and certainly cheaper to plug in a power cord than fill up the gas tank.

  • @CliffKFF I totally got your comment. I was just agreeing with it. :)

  • @mtaviator Are *you* serious? Who wants to open their trunk, untangle some wires, pop the outlet, plug it into the wall every single time you get home? And for me, a 20 foot extension cord wouldn't even reach my 120v outlet..

  • @polaris911 Hey to each their own. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but we are talking about an electric car. Plugging them in sort of comes with the territory. I'm also sorry that your 120V outlet is so far from where you park. That wouldn't be the case for most of us.

If you had 240V setup in your garage, with a cord ready it shouldn't take but a second to plug in. Just grab the plug and stuff it in as you walk by. You spend a lot more time WAITING for gas to pump now.

  • @CliffKFF damn lazy americans... and we wonder why the country is obese

  • Fking hybrid, not electric car.

    fail!

  • @DanelMusa Wrong, it gives you the flexibility of travel if you're going further than the grocery store and work. It doesn't have to burn gas if you don't want it to. It's just too friggen expensive..
