  • Totally cool, but it gave me motion sickness within about 45 seconds.

  • Whoa, got kinda dizzy there, lol.

  • WOOOOOWWW!!!!

  • slow it down!!!!!!

  • @RhinoCockJuice Can't. The turntable has a fixed speed. Can slow the train down, but then I have to put up with people saying it's going backwards. It looks faster in the video than it does 'live'.

  • that is pretty impressive .

i would never had thought to do that.

  • Brilliant!

  • Thirty minutes watching your postings and I'm spellbound.............

    Another gem, thanks...........

Gives the impression of a helicopter chase cam..........

  • is the engine moving or is the layout just movein

  • Both. The engine is moving forward at the same speed that the layout is moving back. Net speed = 0 M.P.H.

Well, actually the train is moving forward slightly faster than the layout is moving in these videos. But you get the idea. :)

  • thts amzing

  • thats great, i thought at first that a camera was mounted on a train running alongside. very cool indeedy.

  • Now, that's just brilliant! Seems to me that an otherwise simple oval layout could be transformed by putting it on a rotating table... might give it a shot. Thanks for the vid.

  • WOW!! How cool as a child to stand and watch this train barrel down the tracks at 60mph and slowly pass you. What a feeling of movement.

    *claps*

  • I have, for a long time, wanted to do something like that but the logistics of making the layout move have stumped me. How do you get it rotating? I considered an old record turntable.

    Nice job though. Well done.

  • Thanks. In my case, I happened to have an old shop display turntable that also had a power outlet on the revolving section. So it was easy to build the layout and simply sit it on the turntable. I used a model railway radio control throttle so that I can control the speed of the train without having to wait for the controller to come around on the layout. :)

  • A record turntable might be okay for a much smaller layout than mine. You'd also have to find a way to slow it down. 33rpm would be much too fast unless you wanted to model a bullet train. :)

  • Concorde westbound used a rolling World. Plane took of from Heathrow, World rotated underneath plane; plane landed in JFK... (well kind of). Neat idea you have there...

  • I get dizzy looking at that. I love it though

  • ok this will be a stupid question

Buttttttttt if the train is moving at the same speed as the layout, does that mean if u put your finger in front of the loco (not on the tracks, just hold it there) that the train wont run into it....

    yes I am that stupid

  • In theory, your finger will not be run over by the train. :) However, in practice, the train tends to run slightly faster than the layout is turning, so you'd eventually get nudged by the train.

By the way, nice NZ "rail porn" you have there. :) Yes, I had a look.

  • cool camera angles! nicly modeled

  • Now that is cool beans!
