I agree Aleeka!! to me, Phyllis voice doesn't sound like anything else. Dionne is great in this, but its too clean. and I don't feel like I'm the one who walked away. Phyllis makes me feel like I'm in her shoes. Funny that we have opposite but similar feelings when listening.

Sorry, don't get me wrong. I highly enjoy Dionne Warwick and I like the electric guitar being added to this version, but this is Phyllis's song. She just brings that emotive feeling. Whenever I listen to Phyllis sing this, I always feel guilty, like I'm the one who walked away from her lol if you get what I'm saying. The song itself is great regardless of who sings it though, in terms of lyrics and production.

Damn, this is one of my all time favorite Dionne songs. Her voice is so powerful and pure. I have always loved Dionne because she has this ability to provide incredibly powerful vocals, with a simple delivery. She never over-sings a song, and the lyrics are never lost in unnecessary riffs and vocal acrobatics. She has the ability to be incredibly powerful and loud, without screaming. Most importantly, you can understand every word that comes out of her mouth.

Phyllis Hyman had this song written for her specifically by Marti Sharron, approx. 2 years before or so before Dionne's release. It was recorded that early too.

Phyllis was having difficulites with PIR at the time, arriving at a financial agreement for her then CD PRIME OF MY LIFE. This lul was the reason the song became avail for Dionne.

Both versions get the Gold Seal of approval. They both offer magnificent vocals and arrangements.

Miss Hyman had this song a good year to 2 before Miss Warwick -dionne copied Phyllis's demo almost not for note. Now Don't keep me wrong Dionne does a nice job (I love Dionne) but had the record Gods moved faster it would have been/should have been Phyllis's record peroid.
