Job 26:7 "He... hangeth the earth upon nothing."
Isaiah 40:21 "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth... He stretches out the heavens like a canopy."
They didn't "know" these things for certain. But at the time, they were common ideas as to how the heavens and earth might relate to each other. Hardly specific to just Biblical writers!
