I remember the first time i heard that solo. I was in morgan city, louisiana, waiting outside of a house for a bag of weed:) i thought....dime has really outdone himself this time, puff puff. You nailed it. No doubt! Cheers, dude! Dime would be proud!
Dude,no disrespect to ya,but if your gonna pull a dimebag solo, dont halfway do it, and then say "not entirely accurate but oh well" , and then give a lesson, play it dime style bro.Lets not forget what style dime had and how unique he was,and trust me,they are a lot more fun to play his way too.Dont dis the DIME!!!!!!! \m/
@MayhamMetal dude go waste you time somewhere else! I have if you actually watch the video I've played the solo twice once with each technique, one which dime used and one with tapping!!! TBH I dont think Dime would give a fook, just play that shit!!!
It's so easy to spout out this "don't tap" bullshit when everyone seems to miss the skill, the talent and the feel that both this gent and myself attempted to put into playing a song we've bothered to learn by someone we no doubt held in really high esteem.
I like to imagine the author of this video feels the same way, but personally I couldn't give 2 shits if my playing style isn't identical to Dimebag's, I'm not Dimebag and I'm not attempting to copy him in the slightest. Give a rest.
@1tayX your a dickhead, before you think you know it all, how about you watch dime do the solo from Pride by damageplan, then think about what you said dick head. well done FionMcc!!! awesome cover and lesson
@1tayX i agree, the real dimebag was pantera, but just because he had to move on because he couldnt control what happened doesnt mean his heart wasn't any less in it. And any "real" dimebag fan would know that anything he writes is fuggen genious and killer. That solo is good too.
I mean this in the nicest way. Dont get me wrong this video is great and you did an awesome job but i noticed that many people that play covers of dime solos including you tap out some sections or parts within the solo and thats not how its played. Dime never taped in any of his solos its all just big stretching with a couple exceptions such as "Pride" by damageplan
@Division252 yeah thats why I've shown both techniques for the sections that could have been tapped, I agree tho he never tapped stuff, but its easier to get the solo clean if you (well me) tap it! Cheers for the input!
is that the schecter hellraiser? i wanted to get that guitar but couldnt afford it lol so i settled for the schecter damien which is badass but but not as cool as the hellraiser :P
YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I was banging my head against a wall with this shit, I have to play it live in a couple weeks, this bailed my ass out of a few looong nights!
This is awesome dude! I know that dimebag darrell doesn`t use tapping, but I don`t think you need to play exactly just as him! It`s very nice to see people putting some personality playing somebody else`s solo!! Good job at all! :D
Check my videos, I put some solos out the, cowboys from hell and domination!
Finally somebody dare takes on this solo and comes close. No disrespect to any of dime's solos, but this songs solo is by far the most brutal and intense solo he ever wrote in my opinion. I have the Far Beyond Driven Tab book and trying to play this songs solo is extremely difficult! You did a good job dude!!!
It's pretty good, I like it. Even though I have never seen this solo played by Dime, I don't think he tapped any of it. First of all, Dime and tapping don't really go together. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, it's pretty good :-)
wow that was pretty close but it dont matter dimebag usually changed his solos alot also iv seen vids of him playing cowboys from hell 3 different ways but i guess as long as it sounds good it doesnt matter
Well played! Thanks for breaking it down into chunks too, really helps, I like the fact you put some feeling into it too. How long have you been playing the guitar then? Keep up the good work.
not sure thats why i showed both techs, also i'm not sure if the first pentatonic bit is actually tapped, but i can't trill like dime could so i tapped it!!! close enough for eh!
Excellent man. My only suggestion, that ascending run , just after you first tap : I'm pretty sure the high notes on that run are tapped too, at least on the first 4 strings, not because it's not easy to do without it, but just tonally, it sounds more like it, if that makes sense?
I'm reffering to the part you give two options on, I mean. Tapping it definitely sounds more like the record, and it's a similar run to some of the tapped runs Darrell used to play in his old live solos in the 80's.
yeah i think your right with that, but i know dime used the wide symmectrical picked runs too, so i thought i'd throw that in there, and yeah i think the end of that tapped section is missing a few notes!!!
probably, it is def not 100% correct, problem is thta dimebag sometimes doubled and trippled solos and played different things instead of the typical exact layering, so sometimes its hear immpossible to actually work out EXACTLY what hes playing, hence there are no really decent "how to play Dime solos" books, outthere, however i'm not sure thats the case with the part your talking about!!!
Cheers for viewing and posting something interesting.
Oh yeah he doubled and trippled, but he was playing the same thing every time (he got it from Randy Rhoads) although occasionally he would have the two/three tracks slightly out of synch (see the outro to Domination).
In any case, this is my favorite Pantera solo, nice to see someone do it justice!
i have def heard sections in some solos where he has played diff things, coupled with the wierd tuning (C hair i think?) I think it was a way for dime to write stuff that was real hard to figure out thus adding to his "mystique"!!! does that make sense?
Good instructional, saved me a lot of time figuring it out by ear. Kick ass!
