the only thing that makes this the smallest true helicopter is the two contra rotating rotor heads but ive seen an experimental home built that was like a heil backpack with one main rotor and one tail but the length kinda kicked out of the record books

Those are the coolest things ever. They are super simple to fly. The seat and handle hang from a gimble, so you just push the handle the opposite direction you want to go and use the throttle to ascend or descend. Left or right turn is done with a thumb switch. The power comes from four separate engines and the thing can fly with only three of them running. The downside is, if you have a catastrophic mechanical failure and lose all four engines, there is no auto-rotating to the ground!
