One can hear the unrepentated love he had for her, the uncertainties, the unfulfilled wishes, the blazing tourch in his loins, yet, never does he go pass the line in the sand, the point of no return. This is amazing piece of music just to say the very least.
Pure beauty. I haven't got any words. Janáček would be difficult to understand but when you close your eyes, you can feel the emotions of this masterpiece. In my humble opinion this is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. No mass-cult music. Pure art...
Can't thank you enough for posting this! This has been one of a very few life-changing works of art for me - my recording was lost a few years ago, so all these years, I've been just playing it back in my head. This is *so* much better :D
Heard this masterpiece first in 1965 played by the Prague Quartet at Canterbury University, The Great Hall, Christchurch, New Zealand. Unforgettable! Never forgotten!
With the exception of his operas, Cunning Little Vixen and Jenufa, I had not heard much of Janacek's music so I'm thrilled to hear this and the Kreutzer Sonata. Marvelous and riveting music. Thank you, Amadeus.
