I loved most all of David's performance on Idol; this, however, is my favorite...great song with great message sung with so much emotion & vocal quality, and it's spot-on pitch perfect.
I'm only 13.. but I'm just going to go out and say it . David Archuleta is one of my favorite singers. To me... he's like a god singing for me every time I listen to his music on youtube. He's my king of music I love to hear. And when I grow up... I can't wait to introduce him to my kids. Same with Mariah Carey. I don't know why... but I keep cring to their music. Like how I still cry to the movie Finding Nemo everytime I watch it lmao.

First of all, turn up the volume. It will make a big difference. Second, if he's flat, judges would tell he was. They're always picky about that. During the competition, he was known as pitch perfect. He confessed that he was so nervous inside, but on stage, he always delivered flawless performances, which sets him apart from most of young teen contestants on the show.
@DueForARenaissance: It is just amazing how he hits it right so much, he must have perfect pitch. I have seen him live. It is amazing how good he is. People always talk about how seeing him perform live is just not to be believed, and it is so true!. So few performers today can do what he does, they have to use autotune, which he hates.

This song made me cry..... It was so beautifully written like a story book. David delivered the story so well with his gorgeous voice. He found his own story in the Dolly's writing. Listen to the studio version of this song. The story goes on and it's even better.
It seems impossible for David to ever sing without emotion, as that is the point of the song for him, to convey the songs message through an emotional connection with the listener.
Family and faith are everything to David. In December David sang with THE Mormon Tabernacle Choir for their huge Christmas Special. If you doubt he sings with emotion, please check out Archuleta Joy to the World (Mo Tab) around 2:10. For me, it shows "Joy" personified.
I find it funny that a person can come and post here that David sung this song without emotion and did not understand the meaning of the song yet the artist who wrote the song confesses that he truly feels it.. I guess some people just rant!
I'll never forget this performance. David was glorious indeed. When he sings 'keeps me strong' my heart sinks. I can't explain it. There's something about his lower range that kills me softly.

There's no denying he has a beautiful voice, and he certainly seems like a sweet enough boy, but he simply has no idea what this song is about. It has nothing to do with age (Tanya Tucker at age 13 was able to sing like she had been living 3 times as long, and a hard road at that) it's his entire presence. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, I guess, but for me, I'd rather hear someone with slight imperfections that sells the lyric than a perfectly executed, but emotionally empty singer.

David remains the best singer and the best perosn to ever grace the American Idol stage. He is completely in a class by himself. The good news is that he is better than ever now.
Aw, I just love him to pieces. He looks so little (young) here. And yes, as someone mentioned here, he does walk in light. That is rare these days. I am so thankful I got to know him. Beautiful, gentle soul.
David was in Singapore and Philippines for the second time, doing album promotional concert tour Nov. 14, thru Nov. 17. David is now back in U.S., he'll be performing at Fort Wayne, Indiana Saturday and in Dallas Texas Dec. 3.
David Archuleta was the best .. should have won .. but he is doing great despite that. I pray that he will be around the music scene for years and that he never loses that special talent for really being himself and singing with such heart and deep emotion.

I remember so, so many of Archuleta's Idol youtubes having multi-million views - now gone. Even his original Imagine that hit a million within a couple weeks was pulled, and than another copy with millions was pulled. I remember the Apologize video with multi-million views pulled. I guess as long as we can still find a video of any performance that is good enough. His original finale songs (In This Moment and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on me had million-viewed videos pulled right away. Oh well.

I never watched AI until the night that this episode aired because I had read on the Internet that the show had an a very young, extraordinary singer. I had had to find out who the publicity was about--I found out that night, and I've been a huge fan of David since that night. I've bought his bio, have all his CDs and have seen him in concert 3 times. But I wish he had sung "I Will Always Love You" that night, I bet he would have been fantastic!

I don't watch ai show now days. I am one of 3 million viewers who lost interest in the way show treat the contestants and how they control the direction of who goes on and who doesn't. I watched Dancing with the Stars. You know that voting is not rigged and the show doesn't control who is voted off. It's refreshingly honest and respectful in how the show is presented. All judges have dance background to be bonefide judges.

The contestants have gotten progressively worse after David's season. He is seriously the greatest greatest greatest!!! I hate when they say, "David is back." He never left, he's remarkable.
These 'talent' shows are a real turn off here in the UK. Stumbled across this particular season of AI and became transfixed by David - he exudes the talent that these shows aim to seek out. Ended up following his fortunes and felt that this was his best performance, capturing the emotion and yearning that Dolly created. David deserves all the accolades he receives - he comes across as a genuine, affable and passionate young man who possesses a voice that should endure for many, many years.

Dolly Parton loved his interpretation of her song, it brought tears to her eyes. I wish one day Dolly will sing a song with David. I'm sure it will be amazing. I found my Idol and to me there is no need to watch AI again. I still believe that 4 judges is a crowd. Take out Kara and Ellen and replace them with Shania or Whitney Houston perhaps.
You should listen to the studio version of this song. It's a beautiful story written by Dolly Parton. David sang it from his heart. His ability to connect emotionally is amazing at 17. Someday, I hope he writes a song about his whole life. He is still a teenager, so it's long way to go. But someday....

Yes indeed. He was incredible How could we not love this guy? His amazing character outshined others. His voice is getting better and better and deeper and deeper each day. His voice is different and so specific that we can distinguish his voice from tons of other singers.
I know it is interesting that Dolly Parton saw David as who he was. That's why I like Dolly. People in darkness never see him because he is in light. His voice is so purely gorgeous.

I never paid attention to AI until 2008 when I came across an internet article about a young contestant who was exceptionally good. I watched AI to find out who it was--this was the episode--and fell immediately in love with David. What a voice! I've seen him 3 times, met him once and will always be a fan!
I'm not a country music or Dolly Parton fan, but this is my favorite of all his performances in idol.

@Seversonronald8 I have to agree with you there. he is in a way a little bit better then David cook. by the way I got to meet David cook's brother Adam he was at my cousin's open house for graduation in Indiana where he lived at the time and I heard shortly after he left to go home that he passed away may of 2008. I even got a bracelet with Adam cook's name on it. David Cook if you ever read this I feel so sorry for you considering I've only known your brother for one day XOXOX.

Certainly his best except for "Imagine" which is the all-time AI highlight performance. David, along with Adam Lambert, set the example for AI in exposing it as a trite popularity contest. Yeah, right, Cook is a better singer than Archuleta and Allen a better sinber than Lambert. LOL. David and Adam, along with Carrie Underwood are the best singers ever to hit the AI stage.

I remember so, so many of Archuleta's Idol youtubes having multi-million views - now gone. Even his original Imagine that hit a million within a couple weeks was pulled, and than another copy with millions was pulled. I remember the Apologize video with multi-million views pulled. I guess as long as we can still find a video of any performance that is good enough. His original finale songs (In This Moment and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on me had million-viewed videos pulled right away. Oh well.

I never watched AI until the night that this episode aired because I had read on the Internet that the show had an a very young, extraordinary singer. I had had to find out who the publicity was about--I found out that night, and I've been a huge fan of David since that night. I've bought his bio, have all his CDs and have seen him in concert 3 times. But I wish he had sung "I Will Always Love You" that night, I bet he would have been fantastic!

I don't watch ai show now days. I am one of 3 million viewers who lost interest in the way show treat the contestants and how they control the direction of who goes on and who doesn't. I watched Dancing with the Stars. You know that voting is not rigged and the show doesn't control who is voted off. It's refreshingly honest and respectful in how the show is presented. All judges have dance background to be bonefide judges.

These 'talent' shows are a real turn off here in the UK. Stumbled across this particular season of AI and became transfixed by David - he exudes the talent that these shows aim to seek out. Ended up following his fortunes and felt that this was his best performance, capturing the emotion and yearning that Dolly created. David deserves all the accolades he receives - he comes across as a genuine, affable and passionate young man who possesses a voice that should endure for many, many years.

Dolly Parton loved his interpretation of her song, it brought tears to her eyes. I wish one day Dolly will sing a song with David. I'm sure it will be amazing. I found my Idol and to me there is no need to watch AI again. I still believe that 4 judges is a crowd. Take out Kara and Ellen and replace them with Shania or Whitney Houston perhaps.

i just wished that they had kept the original 3, i don't like kara at all and ellen is just funny, but she doesn't know that much about music. the guys this season don't compare to archie, adam, chris daughtry ,danny or even bo bice, elliot yamin, and ruben studdard, they just aren't amazing this season.

I never paid attention to AI until 2008 when I came across an internet article about a young contestant who was exceptionally good. I watched AI to find out who it was--this was the episode--and fell immediately in love with David. What a voice! I've seen him 3 times, met him once and will always be a fan!
