  • Beatifull.in a way she in metal.

  • Oh my God she is Goddess!!!

  • This can reduce me to tears by the first chorus. Truly sublime, I loved her around this time.

  • this is the video tht got me hooked on Tori, pity she had to destroy her face

  • whats the refernece about anorexia?

  • This was amazing, thank you

  • Haunting, captivating and utterly beautiful. I've known of Tori Amos since she appeared in the early 90's but this performance was a revelation. I never knew she was this amazing. Thanks for posting this video.

  • Really Supreb.....

  • Very pretty song... and beautifully sung... But what is she actually saying? "Mama layed me on the front lawn; Bridesmaids getting laid; What black magic can do; Jackie's strength"??? I guess she's referring to the kennedy's somehow, but what does Jackie's strength have to do with it? Can anybody explain?

  • @Iwtchutube Jackie Kennedy Onassis. i.e. she is praying for the same strength that Jackie Onassis displayed during her life in the public eye.

  • @Iwtchutube > Jackie Kennedy Onassis maintained an astounding strength throughout her entire life. She lived such a public life, and faced scrutiny. She upheld herself as a lady and contributed her life to others. She survived an eye-witness account of one of the worst tragedies in American history. I believe Tori is calling upon a strength(such as Jackie's) b/c she doesn't want to lose herself through life(her pain, her struggles, her success, her impact on others).

  • I absolutely love her.

  • I love like she's says "I pray..." on 3:57. She's so talented and soulful... Makes me crazy.

  • she looks prettier than usual here.

  • i love her cheek bone.

  • for me there are two toris. the first exists through beekeeper and the second is what we have now. i miss the old tori. she doesnt have the magic anymore. this is magic. compare this to curtain call or maybe california and i will take this anyday

  • @nmothin When 'To Venus and Back' was released she took a huge nose-dive for me. She never really recovered but 'Scarlet' was a kinda return to form I guess. I will always buy her stuff but I doubt she will ever capture that magic of those first few albums.

  • brilliant melody

  • BRAVO!

  • This was the first tori amos song i ever heard. I've been hooked ever since. she's a genius.

  • Ohhh! Me too! It's amazing how she can describe feelings and mood states in her songs like few songwriters can.

  • I once knew this girl who played black jack with her eyes closed. She always knew exactly when she was about to get 21. We made bets with her that she couldn't do it one more time. She's always did but she'd never take our money. Nice girl, wonder where she is now?

  • I was wonderling what this had to do with the song or with this performance?

I love the song, it's so intense.. and it's a really good performance in my opinion ;)

  • i like your comment and i can't believe anyhone would miss what you were saying, thank you for the lovely story about Tori.

  • Jackie Kennedy revealed a strength and poise during one of the most horrific times in history. I feel Tori is saying that when we go thru things in our lives, we need to understand that we're not alone in our suffering. We need to call on the strength of others to help us through.

  • You do know that all music is poems set to song right? what you said applies to all musicians, not just tori.....btw knowing an artist doesn't make you an expert

  • I never claimed "expertise" when it comes to Tori's music, and yes, I do know that music and poetry go hand-in-hand. I stated that I know about her music because it has been a part of my life for awhile, and the meaning I have come to identify with individually. By you saying that I "have no idea" about Tori's music, you are in fact stating that you are the "expert". Contradiciton? I think so.

  • is it?

    Never knew that...

  • It's not about Tori losing her virginity. It's greatly inspired by Jackie Kennedy but it's also about Tori's anxiety over her wedding and the uncertainty of marriage.

  • Thanks, I also heard that Cloud on my Tongue was representative of a girl losing her virginity?

  • you noob! You totally have no idea about Tori's music. Her song all have double if not triple meanings

  • I hope you weren't directing that "noob"(what the heck is that anyway?)comment to me b/c I know plenty about Tori's music. Musically, she is a poet...singing a story in her interpretation. She only hopes that we listen, and in turn, interpret for ourselves what her music means to us individually. What it means to you or the next person may be different altogether. So, I will continue to listen unconditionally because her music means something to me. That is all that matters.

  • I think it suggests women of all ages, going through trials and tribulations, can look to Jackie for inspiration. Amazing song!

  • What is it really about? not justa bout jackie kennedy? What does she mean.. Someone tell me please

  • Alexandravida, honestly, I think Tori's songs aren't meant to be reduced to just one story. She certainly may have written them to represent a truth in her life, but every-body can draw certain connections from them to make each song personal, and that's what makes her special. It's about relating to what she has to say, so if you relate to this song in any way, then that's all that matters. There is no concrete story behind it; just how you feel when you hear it. JMH.

  • What's your story behind it?

  • One of my FAVORITE songs :)

  • What a talent. How many performers sound that good live?

  • @andijschmitt indeed. you should see her live. she's gonna blow you away with her piano and her wonderful voice. :)

  • @andijschmitt Agreed.Tori is always amazing live.

  • @andijschmitt An amazing amount of performers sound that good live. You're just not supposed to know that these days.

  • as a guy i'm a bit out-of-the-loop when it comes to identifying with Tori's lyrics but the fac that she's my favourite singer/songwriter, and this, one of my favourite songs, is a testament to her greatness as an artist.

although I don't get to identify with her in the way that women do, I do get to fancy her quite a bit so I guess it's swings and roundabouts.

  • Precisely! You got the point, pal. Feel exactly the same. What an artist. What a woman.

    Greetings from Poland.

  • Same here, The passion she puts in and the sometimes cryptic lyrics allow me to bend the meanings to my will and thats as close as I can come to identifying with her in that respect. Her piano playing style is innovative and captivating. I fell in love with her music back in 1990 or so. Lotsa love Tori!! From North Carolina.

  • Jackie? Bouvier? tell me if im stupid for thinking this, but this is reminding me of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy? (Jacqueline Bouvier)

  • On the money.

  • she wrote this song about jackie kennedy. ur not crazy

  • That's who it's about. Well mostly.

  • i believe it isn't so much about her as it is her strength of when JFK was shot. point being the beginning when it says shots rang out and mama prayed for jackie's strength

  • Whats it really about

  • wow...

    that took my breath away

  • MASSIVE

  • she sez 'anorexia' is she anorexic??

  • No, she's not anorexic... Tori's songs are apart from her... Not every song she writes is about her personally.

  • amazing performance! Tori is my favorite singer

  • This song and performance moves me so much that I almost cries. Lovet it. 5/5 from me

  • Tori is my alltime favorite. And this song is one of her prettiest. While other songwriters are churning out the same old shallow, predictable laments and love songs and hurt songs.....tori is writing songs with more feeling and meaning than you would get from any emotional philosopher.

It is sheer beauty in thought, and all songs are a rainbow of potential levels of understanding for those who really listen

  • I'll second that, she is the best performer I have been privileged to have seen on dozens of occasions. Her intelligence and inimitable style are quite remarkable.

  • She's the best. Enough said.

  • Bellissimo brano di Tori Amos,e in questo live lo interpreta in modo egregio!!!

  • i cant listen to her without goosebumps up and down my body

  • I have this on DVD it was filmed in HD, It is a great show to have in my catalog.

  • Awesome

  • Soooo beautiful...

  • Where is this footage from?

  • An episode of PBS SoundStage that I'm pretty sure was filmed in Chicago. It's really nice.

  • Yes it was Chicago

  • really good!
