The people won't even accept Zimbabwean currency because of inflation and once I had to trade my undershirt for some lunch. after reading all of these comments it seems that the history of Zimbabwe is pretty troubled. i don't want to sound like i'm judging but there has clearly been some strong power struggle and there doesn't seem to be a right answer as to whose side is good and whose is evil. However, in my opinion there needs to be a change of power in Zimbabwe, Mugabe needs to be removed from power and the western media needs to find a way to show both sides. I have been to Zimbabwe on several occasions and it truly is a ruined state. The people won't even accept Zimbabwean currency because of inflation and once I had to trade my undershirt for some lunch. Please do not be politically correct about this and assume that it's condition is the whites fault! The country was an agricultural powerhouse until Mugabe and his thugs stole the whites land and kicked them out. The reality is that it is Zimbabwe's fault and no one else's.

They have been helped in not so distant past. They were unhappy in Rhodesia and demanded black majority rule and independence. They received both. Hundreds of thousands of whites had to leave. Zim demanded money from Britain to buy back the land from white farmers. They received L630 million, but kicked out the white farmers without paying a fair price. Zimbabweans elected Mugabe and allowed all this pillage and plundering to happen. They consciously supported guerrillas, they applauded eviction of white farmers and they cheered emigration of white population that represented most educated and professional part of the society. after reading all of these comments it seems that the history of Zimbabwe is pretty troubled. i don't want to sound like i'm judging but there has clearly been some strong power struggle and there doesn't seem to be a right answer as to whose side is good and whose is evil. However, in my opinion there needs to be a change of power in Zimbabwe, Mugabe needs to be removed from power and the western media needs to find a way to show both sides. I have faith that a new leader can be found.

Well, there are others than Shonas as well. I am Norwegian, not African. And Zimbabwe has not developed naturally, like a lot of other countries in Africa. Why do you consider me as a christian? Religion is fucking up, thats for sure! And Norway is giving the highest % of BNP in aid, but I think that is not the way, quite the opposite.. Democracy is very needed, something Zimbabwe do not really have.

Rhodesia managed to still thrive under sanctions, as well as being in civil war.
Zimbabwe however is starving despite all the foreign aid being donated.
We are as dissapointed as UR bapfontein, that the country has been trashed.

Even with Zimbabwe now in the news for it's political turmoil, the World has largely overlooked the true issue in Zimbabwe - the children whose lives are shattered due to AIDS.
These children need hope, and the global village must come together to raise these innocent orphans. If we could all just give a little, we'd each make a difference in a child's life.

When Mugabe banned white ownership of farmland, that was racist act and detrimental to the economy. They now have grocery stores with no food to hold them in business. Inflation is emerging rapidly.On top of that abuses by the government at the orders of Mugbae are occuring, driving many zimbabwean civillians from their homes because his old ass doesn't want to retire.
He is depriving the nation of it's educators creating an ambigous future for Zimbabwean youth, the future of the nation.
