Honestly, I agree. Ben Gibbard is a musical genius, but he could have done a better job on this song. The guitar playing was a little bit bland, but it's a hard song to play guitar to.

this is true, but I'm sure in most cases, the heart of the song is his - especially if he came up with both melody and lyrics.

I'd say anytime he plays "I will follow you into the dark" or even "soul meets body" in a solo gig, it's fair to say those are his songs, since they sound like he wrote them on his own with a guitar.

Something a bit more band-based, like "I will possess your heart" would be more appropriately attributed to Death Cab.
