Let's hope the inclusion of some of John Foulds's music in this year's Proms will bring him a much greater degree of recognition than heretofore. He was a contemporary of Vaughan Williams, and the first theme in this piece is not unlike something RVW might have composed, but in the middle contrapuntal section I believe I can detect the origins of what guys like Tippett & Rubbra were to draw upon in their works.
You may like to know that my first upload ever is of Foulds' Keltic Lament, which I have seen categorised as 'light music' but is a most moving piece
