If this video brings a few Desert Rose fans to know Nick Lowe, that's a good thing.
Nick Lowe wrote "What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding" for Elvis Costello, "Cruel to be Kind", performed "I knew the Bride..." with Dave Edmunds, and played some delicious bass on John Hiatt's "Bring The Family" alongside Jim Keltner and Ry Cooder.
Wonderful guy and he's still evolving as a musician.
This was written by John Hiatt. Although Nick Lowe is not 'better' than The Desert Rose Band, neither is The Desert Rose Band 'better than Nick Lowe. Different types of artists. Nick the Knifes version of this song is every bit as good and in some areas better.
This is one the Greatest bands in the world and I mean that i've got All of their albums them and The Maverick i Seem to Listen to them all the time Great music and you can't hear this kind of Country Anymore but it's a great thing we can All still watch this stuff on websites like this keep old country alive.
So who wrote this? Nick Lowe or the Desert Rose Band? (or someone else?) Great song. We're going to see Chris Hillman & Herb Pedersen in about two weeks....
@no1cares214 Nick Lowe is not better than Chris Hillman and The Desert Rose Band. How do we know you're not really Nick Lowe using a name disguise to promote his overrated work?
Today's so-called country fans could sure use a dosage of the Desert Rose Band and learn what great musicianship is,because it's demonstrated tenfold here.
GREAT STUFF!! Thank you so much for this great post of an outstanding band! Can John play wicked guitar and can Chris sing flawless lead vocal!!! Awesome song...awesome band! Thank you.
GREAT STUFF!!! Many thanks for this wondeful post by an outstanding band. Can John play wicked guitar and can Chris sing lflawless ead vocal???? Can't be beat! Thank you so much.
This song brings me back to cutting wheat when I was a little kid. Its funny how a song can bring back a random time in your life. Much more care free back then!
@imachildofthe80s8089 They are going to be touring again starting in May. You can find the dates and where they will be at on Chris Hillman's and John Jorgenson's web sites.
I have Nick Lowe's version on LP. It's cool that Hiatt wrote it, but I dont see anywhere that John Hiatt actually recorded this song. I checked the website. Is it possible he wrote it for Nick Lowe?
I loved, loved this era of country music - The Desert Rose Band, Southern Pacific, etc There are a few out there today that I will listen to but not many.
lol, that is funny. There is a song on youtube that came out years later that has a similar sound too it. it is called "Every Time She Passes By" sung by George Ducas. It would be cool to hear a mash-up of the two songs since they have a similar sound listen to it and you will hear what i am talking about.
the last vinyl I get it's from them, and I see them in a little club near Burlington Vermont in the summer of 90's,I think I'm the only french Canadian got this opportunity
Your welcome Lady, That particular show remains also one of my favourites. Have you already watched "Twilight is Gone"? John's guitar part really kicks ... !
This version beats the Nick Lowe original

This was when country music was good. When you can listen to songs over and over again and dont feel burned out on them. When songs had MEANING!
maymay227 1 year ago 18
@maymay227 I second that. This song is just a taste of what REAL country is....
