  • We speak ENGLISH from ENGLAND.

If you don't know our terms then learn them.

We've been speaking this language just a bit longer than you.

Think about that next time you get on your high horse with your 'term and language' statements.

    And you're still a knob.

  • No not really. Before speaking you should probably research where you so called "language" came from. First..

He maybe Greek, Which was spoken and written ALONG time before english. Further more he maybe Italian, thus latin. There they spooke it BEFORE english.

There are ALLOT of languages that pre-date english. Learn before speech. That prevents idiocy. :]

  • There they spooke it BEFORE english. << horrid. :S I really have drunk to much, oh well..

Latin was a spoken and written language that the main part of english was part-taken from. Then words were added from French, german and so on.

    :]

  • Actually, Latin is not the ancestor of English. English is a descendant mainly of two West Germanic languages, Engle and Saxon specifically. West German, parallels Latin in time. Both are descended from a parent language called Indo-European. Indo-European is so called due to Sanskrit (India) and Latin being the first two languages recognized as being from a common source.

English does have many loan-words from Latin, Greek and other languages. But the core of the tongue is Germanic.

  • That's an informative use of wikipedia. But there's a few flaws in your "argument"

first, Latin branched off from Greek during the Roman empire. Which were using Greek as it's main written language prior.

Further more, Indo-European is a "family group" of languages including Dutch, German, English, greek and so on. It's not one main parent language. :]

    *shrugs* old topics are boring.

  • I don't need to do any research on the topic, and what I stated is quite accurate, e.g., Latin, Greek & Germanic Languages generally are all both contemporaries of each other as well as being descended from the parent tongue generally called Indo-European. The latter term is not a "classification" or grouping of languages except in parentage. However, if you think you have the topic in hand, more power to you.

    Cheers,

    J

  • dick

  • Greek?

    Who said anything about Greece?

    Who asked you anyway?

I was replying to an ignorant American who knows nothing about English terms.

  • You're right, you do speak English. The old, dilapidated, archaic form.

If you'll recall, it was the English who brought our language over.

We took it upon ourselves to correct your horrendous spelling, and enunciation.

    Keep your tired version.

    We'll stick with our upgrade.

Blow that our your corn-hole, you tosser!

    HA!

(This was only meant in defense of my countryman, we Americans are very proud and don't take kindly to insults from pretentious Brits.)
