I adore Rotties! I agree with Charlie regarding the fact that probably the male was trying to protect the female, but I wouldn't advice this Rottie to be adopted.
I also think that Charlie was way too confident to touch the Rotties which weren't familiar with him and it was a under a stress situation.
Rottweilers only ever do what comes naturally to them or what they've been conditioned to do - which is the same for any dog.
That said, through working with dogs on a regular basis, I would *never* personally recommend a Rotter as a family pet. I know some will disagree, and I don't doubt some of them go through their lives without any 'problems' - but they have a propensity for unexpected mood changes that when mixed with their ferocity results in too high a risk in my opinion.

@opp861 in this instance, touching is not the solution. Not until later. You get the dog used to your presence and don't make eye contact with him. Touching the dog in this instance only upset the dog more. If he had of just stood with him and not bothered him, he wouldn't have gotten bitten.

I HATE!!! Videos like this... Rotweillers have a tuff enough wrap without an ignorant person handling the dog improperly. I own a two year old female rottie, and she is the best dog I've ever owned. We researched Rotti s enormously before purchasing her, and all these people bad mouthing the breed know nothing about them. I have 3 kids and one on the way, and never felt safer... Rott"s are # 1, check dog ratings best family, smartest they are in the top 10 in all of them.

What I don't understand is why these idiots like the bite victim here and these "rescue" dummies insist on trying to salvage these dangerous dogs. There are so many that must be euthanized because of sheer numbers and overpopulation, why not start with the aggressive breeds and for certain, the ones that bite like this one?
Why not try and salvage the smaller, less threatening, dogs and breeds first?

@WarriorSpirit3a Abuse and Neglect are reasons why we have aggressive dogs. Fear pretty much equals aggression. If you're scared of something and it just keeps cornering you, what are you going to do? Tuck your tail and attempt to run even though you're cornered? Should you be put down over it?
If it was me, I'd be scared too and attack. It's about survival and animals do not know what is going on around them so they have to fight for it. All because of stupid people and their irresponsibility.

They can bite tendons, arteries, and the bacteria in their mouths can cause serious life threatening infections. Ignorant people like you just crack me up with how naive you can be. Get a fricking education before you think you can make a feeble attempt at a comment. A good idea for you would be to volunteer at a shelter.

I'll get an education if you'll get some common sense. Chihuahuas and smaller dogs can bite, they can cause injury, and they can cause infections. That much is true. Common sense tells me that you'll have breeds like Rottweilers and Pit Bulls have and will rip off peoples' arms, legs, faces, and other things where a Chihuahua or one of those little ragmop dogs will not. Hmmm...which would I rather deal with in the ER?

Nature of the breed. You can't promise me that if you keep a pointer that at no point in it's life that it will not point at a bug, lizard or bird.
Same applies to Rotts and Pitts, can't promise they they won't do what they were bred for.

I have to agree with another poster about having that dog PTS.
This officer has unwittingly reinforced this dog to future biting by backing off
and leaving the cage. In the dog's mind he has won by biting the man. This
bite has set him up for future biting incidents because he has gotten away
with it.
It will take an expert to reverse this behavior and I don't think he should be
release to any family and especially with kids. It is accident waiting to happen.

@The3Shogun If you own or have met a trained Pit, then you should know that they get the raw end of the deal because of a few morons that abuse that breed, just like the Rotti. The whole reason this dog was skittish in the first place was because it wasn't loved, socialized, or trained by the people who abandoned the poor dog. So don't ignorantly shout to ban a breed without actually researching the breed and seeing the positives along with the few negatives that are out there.

The whole reason this is an issue in the first place is because of idiots who neglect to socialize the dogs, abuse them, use them for fighting, or abandon them. If you had met a typically trained Rotti who was properly trained and cared for, then you'd see what I mean. And that goes the same for every dog.

@opp861 in this instance, touching is not the solution. Not until later. You get the dog used to your presence and don't make eye contact with him. Touching the dog in this instance only upset the dog more. If he had of just stood with him and not bothered him, he wouldn't have gotten bitten.
