I am listening and trying to dig it... i mean I like his earlier stuff, and as i am listening I am actually digging it more... its like chad vangaalen's soft airplane... different from his normal stuff but very much the same. Great music...

I saw him in Eindhoven last night, and it was amazing. Really one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He's so real. A lot of artists put on a little show on stage, but Sufjan remains a 'real person'.
Saw SS last night in Copenhagen. The show was out of this world! Oh thank you, thank you SS for rediscovering the blessings of electronica. Bring me to your space ship!
It may be the artwork, or the references to space in the song, but this song reminds me of the History Channel shows talking about how the Mayans talked to aliens
It's called electroacoustic and is taken from the classical history of music. Anyone heard of Karlheinz Stockhausen? The most famous serialist. Though Sufjans music can't be called serialistic, the principle of combining electronic and acoustic instruments is the same as with Stockhausen. I think Sufjan is very aware of this. And hey, it's not the first time he's done the electronic thing, what about enjoy your rabbit? Although that was instrumental and this is way much better!
@frankie1138 right on. Did it have one before your opinion? Lol, jk. I like this song allot. Let's all get real and get right with the Lord. Amen? Beautiful music.
My little Sufjan has taken electronic under his wing and made it a god.
No but seriously, If he kept making albums that sounded exactly the same as Illinoise and such, he wouldn't progress as an artist. If this sounds like Radiohead, it's probably because bands influence each other, push the current music sound forward. I personally hear a lot of Discovery in this album, but I'm not accusing Sufjan of copying them.
I adore radiohead but they didn't invent music haha.
Discovery, as in Daft Punk? Interesting comparison, I personally can't hear it, but I love Discovery as an album as well as this.
Authenticity is more important than faux originality. All the great authors, musicians, and movie makers looked at some other person for guidance and inspiration as they move to make their own art.
@ClintHunt I think this song is more like writing a letter to Royal Robertson and telling him to find peace within himself than it is about preaching to people about literally finding God. As someone who isn't a Christian, I can honestly say that this song is absolutely gorgeous. I don't consider it preachy at all.
@PlaidShirtsLoveMe Royal Robertson was the guy who inspired/drew (I'm not sure) the cover artwork and some of the songs, right? I think this song is the one that's sort of more obvious about the inspiration.
@SadManplyoon Royal Robertson was a crazy guy. He used to be a pastor and he went insane. He started saying all of this crazy stuff about aliens haha. You should look him up.
i feel, he's not copying anyone.. the beauty of sufjan is that his influences are utterly organic. i.e.; colors, people, places, feelings/emotions or experience.
the way music should be "composed"
thumbs up in the way of infinity! to this whole album..
this is the syncopated, scatter-brained idea of enjoy your rabbit orbiting stevens' soul.
So I like going on music quests. I like to dig around and look up artists I've never heard of before. And while it's fun and I enjoy nearly all styles of music, it's not easy to find something that really sticks out to me.
Hearing this, I feel like I've struck gold. It contains so many elements I love and combines them in a way I'd never considered possible. It's absolutely perfect. I love it.
its not exactly like radiohead, and hes not copying them. hes doing the electronic thing, but including his signature stuff and still keeping part of his old sound. if you listen you'll realise.
In my opinion it feels like, Sufjan trying to do a Radiohead. Although I'm a fan, and will listen to this album anyway, it feels like the charm is dwindled a bit. I love when he creates a story with his lyrics, but i think that there isn't much here in the way of dialogue. It does feel as if he has gone from a neo impressionist of music, to an abstract expressionist. Its great to switch it up, but he has lost the romance.
@onetruesim you obviously haven't listened to his old albums (before Illinoise-folky era), such as A sun came and Enjoy your rabbit: eclecticism and electronics, a precursor to the brilliant Age of Adz. Too many people get caught up in his folk arrangements, which are amazing, but they often forget that he has always experimented with electronics, bizarre arrangements, and new sounds/meters/music.
Some have already been ready for this. The number will only increase.
