On this date in 1956 {Mar. 10th} "Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)" entered Billboard's Most Played by Jockeys chart ; on May 5th it would peaked at #1 {for 1 week} & spent 23 weeks in the Top 100.
Ranked 16th on Billboard's Year-End Top 30 Singles of 1956 chart...
How many know much of Perry's music (the tunes) were based on Classical music? Even Hot Ziggity was based on Chabrier's España, and "Falling Star" was Brahms' Academic Festival Overture. Others also.
Trivia: Perry made a cute blunder at 0:37 when recording this happy tune: Instead of saying Hot DIGGITY, he begins with Hot ZIGGITY -- an error that RCA fixed for later releases of this timeless golden oldie. Perry is not with us anymore, but he and many others from the golden-oldies era live on via their music and gift of voice. LRG
:D This song never fails to make me happy. If I can ever find anyone who makes me go "Hot Diggity Dog Ziggity Boom", I will be the happiest person on earth!!!
@dawnvanness Not SO innocent, my friend. The song was originally written with a subtle message about "hot dogs" (actually, not so subtle). Como had to lobby to his record company and persuade them to release the song, which the company felt was vulgar. Como won at the end, and the rest is history.

This song is what nice people who didn't drink would sing in their rumpus room in the 1950's

I was taken to this guy because at his concert from 1979, Tom Waits introduced himself as Perry Como. Now I get it. I lol'd quite a bit.

It sounds more like the España Waltz, which Emil Waldteufel ripped from Chabrier.

@idiotic76 I doubt that there was a "subtle" message there....just that the record company had a vulgar mind.
