One of my fav songs on one of my fav albums. Charles Stepney, Weldon Irvine, Norman Whitfield and this album's Master, Dale Warren - all geniuses. I love them because of all the textures they add to their musical contributions...capturing life through sound magnificently... :)
damn i came here on account of wale sampling this in "the end credits" and realized jay-z samples it in "can i live" from reasonable doubt. gotta peep 24 carat black's game.
P Ann 's sister Princess sang lead. She is still in Cincinatti singing gospel music. My father is their older brother. Princess got married to Dale Warren the music producer. He and my father were business partners.
My uncle Dale Warren and my father produced and managed this group. My aunt is the singer. She sings gospel in Cincinatti. They were on their way to breaking through when Stax went bankrupt.
i wondered that too... a while back... she is a righteous one hunh? she had some super cool posts (i.e. Billy Cobham's "Heather", Henry Mancini's "Police Woman", Norman Connor's "You Are My Starship".... to name a few... Peace, Love, and Respect to t'shirts and pantskys....
24 Carat Black's album was a ghetto opera. The songs painted a story of the inner city saga. Their vocals were simply fierce. This album is one of Stax's most sampled recordings. A jazz and soul operetta.
Also sampled by Dr Dre and Nas on the song "Nas is Coming.."
