Really great original song John. Sorry it took me 2 weekes to find it. Wonderful melody and the lyrics are so visual. The harmonica sets a wonderful mood, great performance. I put your video in the "Acoustic Vocal Feb.2010" list on The Songwriters Collection Channel..5*s...Kathy
This looks like one I missed, John....wow.........you show such excellent musicianship...I'm guessing it takes a lifetime to perform as well as you do....love your lyrics too.....just wonderful. Gonna favorite this one. :)
Thanks very much, Janet! Playing guitar and singing go way back for me, but it has fallen by the wayside for years at a time. I've been going pretty steady now since doin't the YT thing is a lot of fun. Both making my own videos and seeing the talent of others like yourself.
somehow i just knew i was gonna love this one........and i was right! loved it!!.....very very moving......can see it and feel it all so very vividly............kinda left me speechless ...just enjoyed very much John!
This song has a special something-one of your best. You say it's not about you but you make it sound as if it comes from the heart. The guitar and harp are just perfect for this song too- I loved it
Thank you very much, Marian! I'm glad you liked it and I appreciate the kind words. At first it was based on someone I knew, and then I just kind of made it about having regrets which like most people, I could relate to.
It is so weird that you mentioned the perspective thing. I have a song that I wrote years ago that I want to post that is big time from someone else's perspective called, "Shadows of Things That Were". It is pretty serious song. Maybe in the next few weeks.......anyway....I really liked your song!! t:)
Thanks Linus! I appreciate the kind words about the song! It's always kind of interesting to see how a song like this comes together after tweaking it for a week.
Thank you very much! Appreciate that a lot! I did the guitar and vocal seperate and even did the harmonica on another track. Used two mics for the guitar and I think it helped the quality. Glad ya liked it!
Thanks very much! I wonder sometimes if the songs are becoming too similar, but I think it is kind of falling into a style so I'll go with that for now. Thanks again, and I'm glad ya like the music!
Thanks Dan! It would be such a trip to get a song in a movie! That would be a dream come true, for sure! There's a guy named Kevin Renick who wrote a song called 'Up in the Air.' When he heard there was a movie being made by the same name, he pitched the song to one of the guys making the movie. The guy took the cassette tape that Kevin made, and Kevin thought that would be the end of it. Some time later, they called him and said they would use it! If ya ever see it, it's at the very end.
I know! I posted it before the game, and now I realize it fits the mood for the entire state! I know you've probably heard this already but...WE SHOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME!!!
Thanks Brad! I got some pan and zoom effects I added to Windows Movie Maker and wanted to utilize them in this video. Mostly just to get the big fan out of view.
Great to hear a new original from you John. The picking is so pretty in this sad tune! Love your writing!! The sand castle part was excellent! faved*****
Thank you, Jane! I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you liked the song. I was going to call the song, "Sand Castles" but thought if I went with "It's too late, anyhow," I might get more hits from folks looking for Carole King's song "It's too late." Thanks for faving it!
Thanks very much! I wanted to use some pan and zoom effects I added to WMM, and also recorded it on three differnt tracks so I could seperate the guitar, vocal and harmonica.
Most excellent John!!! Touching lyrics.... Im sure a lot of people can relate to it.... I know I can from when I was younger.... I enjoyed it a lot:) jackie
Thanks Jackie! Glad ya liked it, and even if I can't relate to all of it, I certainly have had my share of regrets over poor decisions. I guess that's life.
Thanks Jimmy! I've known a lot of folks who could have written this song from personal experience. Hope they don't think I'm judging them too harshly if they hear this.
This really shows your superb talent at writing when it's not from personal experience!! It's hard enough when you've experienced this kind of self-examination!
I especially liked the "castles built too close to the water" line!!!
Thanks Ray! Yea, It may be a fictitious song, but I've built my share of castles by the water line in my time. I hope I learned a thing or two though.
Wow !...Johnny !! Great song man...awesome recording...cool vid too...glad yer brain was lookin for a new idea...excellent tune bro...Always a treat when you upload a new one !! Cheers !*****
You have a very keen understanding of human nature, John. I love to hear you write outside of your own experience. It's a beautiful song. Maybe if I land in a different place, I'll be a different man. That is marvelous. Into my favorites. Love this one. ~NAncy
Thanks Nancy! I appreciate that and I'm glad ya liked it! I have to use my imagination a bit sometimes otherwise I wouldn't have too much to write about. I could relate to the parts of the songs about certain regrets and figuring stuff out after the fact.
When I finally see the light...It's too late,anyhow.......No truer words have ever been written!! Great lyrics....Great song John!! 5*****s my friend!!
Thanks Phill! I have to admit that the line applies to some of my life's experiences. Unlike the guy in the song though, I hope I learned a thing or two.
Thanks Robin! The ink wasn't even dry on the video yet, and you found it! Glad ya liked it and I hope things are well! (Did ya see Bruce on the Haiti telethon?)
I put that song to my playlist of HARMONICA RACK PLAERS.
If you like you can watch the list on my channel to watch & listen to some of your fellow instrumentalists
