  • what was the name of the hat lee marvin wore in this film?

  • I was under the impression that most of the songs were removed from the movie when it went into general release. Always found that odd. Glad I was wrong about that.

  • I used to own a 16mm copy of 'No Name City' great making of film although it was made in colour well my 16mm print certainly was.

  • After this film concluded reserved seat engagements in larger markets, most of the songs were cut for the general release. The songs were restored for home video (VHS, DVD) release.

  • @talkinbroadway I saw this film several times in it's 2nd, 3rd and 4th runs and throughout the years in revivals. I've never seen it cut. In fact, it never was cut.

  • Jean Seberg was so lovely. Such a sad, tragic end.

  • Hollywood don't know how to come up with original ideas, they only know how to - TRY - remaking Classics, the ones they have tried to remake have been loosers.

  • Please don't call for a remake! I'm sure that Hollywood can come up with original ideas without trying to remake classic movies.

  • The movie definitely is DUE for a remake -- even more lusty, fabulous than the first!! Great video. Thanks for posting it. Do you have any more?

  • Nothing more fun than watching paint your wagon while drunk

  • Thank you so much for this upload. I have looked for this particular "making of" for many years. It isn't even on the Paint Your Wagon dvd.

  • @thomassaint same here

  • I live 15 minutes away from where No Name City was originally built.

  • Has anyone posted video of parts that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are in?

  • @rc1965 cant find one. Thats what I came searching for . LOL

  • By the way... the closest town to the filming site is Baker City, OR. I was there in 2001, and their town museum has a model of the whole town of "No Name City." They actually used "hippies" as "gold miner" extras. They had the look. The museum docent at that time remembers all the "hubbub" surrounding the filming of the movie. The filming site is way out of town in the mountains, so you'd have to ask at the National Forest HQ how to get out there, but it is accessible via forest roads.

  • I wish they would have put this little piece as an "Extra" on the DVD. That would have been wonderful. Perhaps, if this movie ever makes it to Blu Ray, (As it should, it does *NOT* deserve the reputation it has....) maybe this will be on the Blu Ray.

  • Well im going up there next summer since im only 400 miles away from site think it will be a great trip in so many ways....

  • My favorite musical, & probably the most realistic. None of these warbling idiots, but real people trying to sing, except Harve Presnel who is a good singer.

  • This is one of my favorite movies and watch it every 2 weeks... just love Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood and Jean Seberg... Love the music!!!!! Does anyone know who the choir or singers were in this movie?? I'm guessing Nelson Riddle Orchastra's.

  • This was a great movie and the critics hated it. They don't make them like this anymore, and the actor's personalities are incomparable. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has a fairly large appearance and it is a truly funny film.

I saw Lee Marvin in LA once and he was incredibly handsome, was wearing a suit and walking with military bearing - the whole world stopped to stare at him.

  • @SacredArts1 Agreed and never trust the critics. They have their own reasons for coming to their own conclusions, and they are rarely autonomous or independent. There is a lot to like about this film from the humor to the songs to the melancholy drama of the full story arc to the great landscape setting. It gets a bit farcical at the end, but its a good tale, well told, and stands up well four decades later. A must see for any cinephile and fan of comedic western musicals~!

  • @SacredArts1 I had no idea The NGDB was in this movie....makes me want to see it for sure. ~

  • I've been to the location where "No name city" was. Nothing but grass now but very pretty spot.

  • People forget what a MAMMOTH undertaking this film this was. The BIGGEST film any of these actors ever made in their career and that includes Clint Eastwood. They don't make big glorious musicals like this anymore. People forget that from 1965 to 1970 the biggest most expensive movies produced were musicals.

  • great post, thanks
