Ehm, no, he was 27, he was born in 1970.

Yes, he released "Smiles" when in 1997, but only three or four songs on the album were actually recorded after he left the Chili Peppers. "Height Down", for example was originally scheduled to be on Niandra LaDes. Most Frusciante fansites state the he recorded this song in 1987 or 1988.

No problem. Yeah, "Smiles" is just a weird album because it collects songs from all over the place. Basically it consists of everything John had left his vault that he could sell for drugs. A lot of it is pretty good, though. :-)

7/4 is the time signature for the song. Most songs are in 4/4, where the beat would go, "One two three four, one two three four". In this song, the beat goes to seven before repeating. A nifty trick.
