What I can't get over here is how the Brazillians are pissing and moaning after that rugby tackle. You'd think after such a blatant foul you'd think they'd shut up. Whinging, cheating pricks. Good to see the US sheilas beat the Brazillian sheilas in the 2011 womens WC after all their theatrics as well.
After watching this it´s amazing how the game has changed over the last 2 decades - for the better. How dirty were those Brasilian players? It pleases me that these days such rediculous behaviour carries massive consequences both on and off the field. Example... Danny Vukovic, barely touched the referee but was suspended for 9 months. Just look at the dissent these players dished out. Back then it was normal... but an amazing contrast to today.
fuck south american teams are fucking dirty players. then when theyre blatantly in the wrong they still feel the need to question the decision. fucking cry baby faggots can eat a dick. the english speaking football teams around the world are the only ones that play fair. think about it. asian, south american and some european (eg italy) teams are fucking either cheats or crying babies. seriously, harden the fuck up.
Fascinating footage, gave us a prelude of Brazil two years later in Italy (dull, predictable and very physical under Sebastian Lazaroni). Romario was brilliant though (always an admission money player).
Or gridiron, eprisband. That would have been a touchdown saving tackle. I think Jorginho would have lit it up in the defensive backfield. Shame he didn't realize what code he was playing in. Poor fella.
This was the beginning of Martin Tyler's long standing relationship with SBS in Australia. The tournament was the Bicentennial Gold Cup, famous for Australia beating the world-champs Argentina 4-1. Brazil had the better of the Frank Arok's boys in the final, but this tournament was a big boost for football in Australia.
That wasn't a association football tackle either...that was gridiron. Shame that weren't any NFL scouts to weigh if he had even a sniff of a future playing in the secondary.
the referee was pathetic. a young taffarel, romario, a young but still ugly arnie, yankos one fo the best aussie set piece specialists ever, great video.

Was there a second "rugby tackle" in that tournament? For some reason I recall Arnold being brought down, not Ollerenshaw.
Amazing also how many empty seats were visible in the stands, that wouldn't happen now - a very good thing.

lol i didn't realize that Brazil played rugby!
My god the game has changed. The crowding on the ref is atrocious. Imagine doing that, and the tackle now.

@eprisband You should watch highlights of Maradona vs Brazil in 1990 World Cup, 2 years later they were still playing rugby.
