  • game name?

  • BETUR THEN A MOUCE!!!11!!!

  • Please, when is this going to be open for public download... I love it!

  • haha I love sauerbraten... boing! boing!

  • guaranteed this would not stand up to a mouse in pvp

  • @calvinwylie3 Not even close. It wouldn't stand up to Hydra/Wiimote/Move either or even Dual Analog at least not just with the Kinect.

However aiming alone it is superior to DA, but is weaker than Hydra/Wiimote/Move due to the nature and amount of movement required. It falls apart when trying to do more. Even with the common fps functions demonstrated in this video DA is superior. Add in special actions many games require and the system falls apart.

Kinect needs two 1 handed controllers.

  • Nice work there buddy, reminds me of the movie "Gamers". However I'd prefer to run in-game by using my legs, is that possible?

  • @Fpee4ss Reminds me of the quote "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home". This is future gaming, get used to it,

  • this has to be the best movement idea ive seen for kinect you should show the developers this. They need something like this to expand the play ability in games with kinect

  • is it possible to download it?

  • This is an interesting idea but,

    1) your arm is going to be knackered after 15mins to 30mins and most people I know play around 2 hours in a session.

    2) there are different ways to grip and move a mouse: some use their fingers for faster movement and some use their whole arm for better aim. This only caters to people using their whole arm...You would need it to be a whole lot better to best a mouse :/

  • Looks like your arm is gonna get tired quickly...

  • Too many mouse pricks in the comment section, you could build a machine that reads your thoughts then appropriates them to in game actions faster than it would take your brain to send the electrical signals to your hand and before even trying it they'll burst out with "BUT IT'S NOT BETTER THAN MY MOUSE!!!"

  • @Halo3WKWYL No, if you had something that read your thoughts you could best any control device currently with ease and you would have 100% accuracy as long as you could see someone.

  • @aeadonnis Yeah ... that is the point ... mouse fags would argue against that point.

  • for offline gaming this is better, for competitve play online this is not pratical but it is very amazing. is what all u QQers shoulda said. Sure its not BETTER than a mouse cause ur thiniking of online play. who the hell wouldnt wanna play resident evil like this? ah yes i make sense dont i lol..

  • @Bioxv1rus Uh....ppl struggle to learn how to aim using the Wiimote/Move and mock them as a result. Do you really think ppl are going to easily learn how to use this?

The ppl who wouldn't wanna play resident evil like this are those that prefer a Dual Analog controller over the WiiMote/Move in Resident Evil 4/5 and there are many for some strange reason.

  • How's development with this going? Can't wait to see it released =D

  • @MaJoRJayjay

Development is good, lots of testing hours with lots of people.

Driver installation has been a major problem for new testers.

I am hoping this problem will be resolved with the release of the Microsoft SDK.

  • @MaxKinect so, now that the SDK has been released, can u upload for donwload??

  • great idea and good job, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuttt.

    not better than a mouse

  • what game is this?

  • Nice jump motion.... Id like to see some jump-spammers play like this!

  • mouse is better, mouse is better what a bunch of fucking dinosaurs, I am sure they all own PS3 with that stupid icecream glowing in their hands, some just dont see the future of interface when they see it, mouse lovers, yeah we should stick with it it is so cool and usefull and it is been here since WIn3.11 :) dont you think it is time for something new

  • mouse is better, mouse is better what a bunch of fucking dinosaurs, I am sure they all own PS3

  • You made a Wiimote.

  • @MisterAlexUk

    What?

  • Playstation Move is better. Seriously map it for me. I have the sharp shooter attachment and need some games to play, plz!!!

  • better? i think is neat, but is not better. Pretty sure a press of mouse button is faster than punching or opening ur hand.

  • what happens when ur hand gets tired

  • LMFAO.....this vid has more LIKES than DISLIKES?.. Oh boy...

  • Hey, MaxKinect. Give me please your script to faast or what are u using for play in games?

  • Really nice one!!!! Imagine playing CODMW2 on that.

How abt mapping commands for crouch, prone, melee, use etc. It would be pretty cool don't ya think?

But I'm still confused about the player movement....can u please show it more elaborately how do you move the player forward and backward?

  • Really nice one!!!! Imagine playing CODMW2 on that.

How abt mapping commands for crouch, prone, melee, use etc. It would be pretty cool don't ya think?

  • Kinect FTW!!!

  • how do you move the guy>>>>EPIC FAIL

  • @X3BOOODYX2012

    Keyboard!!!

  • @Guilherme2239 I DIDN'T SEE THE GODDAMN KEYBOARD!!!!!!

IT DOESN'T EXIST. LOOK AT HIM JUST AN EMPTY HAND!!!!!!

  • @X3BOOODYX2012

    Moving your hand up/down, left/right (turning) , in/out (forward/back/slow/stop)

  • @MaxKinect intresting!

so kinect is easy to hack?

where do you think MS got the idea?

    from the cold war maybe?

  • it's much better than the sharp shooter ahahahaha not

  • I still can't figure out how you are making the character move!

  • @GeoJJx @simonorenity It seems to move by how close your hand is to the camera, push forward = move forward and pull back = move back. At least, that's what it looks like to me (as it moves back when he pulls his hand away from the camera between 1:09 and 1:12 ).

  • just cuz the character runs fast doesnt mean you could use your hand to control it better, you have to change the sensitivity

  • @killayt4

Speed is a good test of kinematic hand tracking and 'yes', the quality of character control is of maximum importances.

  • So to shoot you need to "punch"? Do you use only your wrist for that or your whole arm?

( Write some additional info in the discription of how things work )

  • @jovlem

Punch or flick fingers forward and back

  • which cube 2 game is this? saurbraten?

  • @Bob0p

    Yes

  • Kinda inspiring in a way. keep working on those projects for sophisticated multi-genre video games.

  • how do you move , and yes it's better than a mouse befor your hand start hurting you

  • another question where are the psmove hacks?

  • @ForgiveMyAim

No 'PS MOVE' hacks that I can see, but Sony planning something called "Move Server" which will be official PC support.

  • Couldn't this be done better with the playstation move?

  • That, looks terrible. Seriously

  • What's the gesture for moving forward/backward?

  • how long before your arm gets tired?

  • I love this video, you may have some of the best kinect control implementation I have some on the internet, and I follow the scene quite intensely. That being said, why did you just drop off the face of the planet?

  • I am curious how did u have your player move? What game is this on and why on earth isn't Microsoft getting a company to make an fps kinect!? They should hire you! ;D

  • Pretty amazing!

Could you explain a bit more how the aiming works? Normaly with a mouse when you keep on turning in one direction ( lets say to the left ), after a while you need to pick up the mouse and replace it in the center of your 'mouse area', how did you solve this problem?

Is it so that you hold your arm RIGHT in front of you, to turn left you move your arm to the left, BUT if you move your arm back right in front of you ( the "starting positing" ) the view doesn't turn so?

  • there should be a pistol like in old nes consoles xd

  • watch?v=bo7QUdrZAkA

    Plausibe.

  • great work Bill. Pay no mind of the spoiled children throwing peanuts.

This is quite amazing, i didn't know the Kinect could be made this accurate.

    Was it hard to do?

  • Don't worry about the haters Dude, awesome hack!! :)

  • Looks fantastic!

  • Why all the hostility towards a new device that is in its infancy? You all should piss off and listen to your 8track tapes, go home watch a VHS and QQ more about progress.

  • Funny how every single person on her has commented on the mouse part rather than the fact that this is a working Kinect FPS.

  • Two handed play would be awesome for dual wielding weapons like SMGs

  • thats so freaking homosexual nothing cant NEVER replace a mouse dude, obviosly u dont even know what FPS is tho...

  • Better than a mouse? How stupid are you?

  • would love to see after 8 hours of work to stay 6 hours playing hardcore with ur hands, second day you would probably have the most shaky worlds in the world, that is if u can play more than 1 hour, so yeah another EPIC FAIL

  • No.

  • Come on people stop hating on this video, and just watch how amazingly well he can control a character using ONE hand, It may not be better than a mouse but that title was probably the main reason you came to view the video, and it seems to have worked 55,000 + views, and i'm glad i did, this is just amazing m8. I see this working perfectly with a game like quake, fast paced action. Imagine this guy implementing two hands, ohh the joy we could have !!! Great work dude =]

  • better than mouse.... no way

  • Cool. Now do a strafe jump and a quick 180 turn and we can start talking about that "better than mouse" part

  • @SirDorius

lol. I can do strafe jump using only a one key on keyboard with help AutoHotKey. And computer do strafe jump instead of me.

  • Nice video troll here.

  • Better than mouse, no.

But better than pad for sure !

  • Better than a mouse?

Maybe if you're using an IBM PS/2 ball mouse with rat poop all over the ball.

  • this must make your arm ache

  • Funny title there bro

  • @EvilDaedalus

    Thank You

  • @MaxKinect

    Wii works better dumbass

  • and yet clicking with your finger tip is STILL more responsive than clenching your entire fist.

  • I don't think you've ever used a mouse if you say this is better.

  • The sad part is that people will actually play motion controlled shooters.

    Poor saps.

  • How is this better than a mouse? He's still slow and unresponsive.

  • Keep on saying "better than a mouse", xbots will believe you, really.

  • @FoxHoundUnit89 this isn't running on an xbox

  • Combinate it with screen glasses and it would be awesome to play fps :D

  • "better than a mouse", ok, do me strafes jump while shooting precisely with an automatic weapon for a game session of approximately 4 hours, and we'll talk :D

but tbh it seems better than a pad at least ^^

  • "better than a mouse"

    dude, seriously...

  • @lefr33man Hes saying it creates more natural camera movement then a mouse

  • "anything you can do I can do betteeeer" with a mouse. dude. hwo the flaming pork can you shot with an automatic? yeah I'd love to see that action. cramps before anyone can shoot 10 rounds, if not props to them, cause then you got one of sickest jackoff muscles in history

  • Thats really cool and no fake

  • download link? this is amazing

  • @EPICxSWAGGER

    Comming soon

  • @EPICxSWAGGER how soon? cuz i kinda wanna ditch faast for this depending on how good it is in comparison

  • You can't even strafe, right?

  • "Better than a mouse!" *Oversteers into the wall*

  • Bill, drop us a line, lets chat.

  • fucking idiots show this guy some credit!

it's a step in the right direction (for kinect at least), even if i don't think problems like, moving, strafing, or even complex actions will be possible ever.

  • Better than mouse? What a pity, thumbs down for that.

  • better than a mouse? keep dreaming y will i want to move my arm to play when i can simply move my finger and and do exactly what ur doing in less than half the time and with ten times the precision.

  • how you crouch???? xD haha

  • @drproof you crouch

  • All you need now is to replace the punching motion with a handheld battery powered gun controller with a trigger on it. Put a simple accelerometer inside so when you tilt it down it reloads. Would also be cool if there was a wrist-strap on the same arm you use to hold the gun & on that wrist strap was a neodymiummagnetic plastic knife- that you grabbed with the other free arm to deploy & stab your enemies with. Hope some game Dev is watching this. There's a cool game to be made w/ this simpplay

  • I have a couple of suggestions. You should combine a Wii Nunchuck controller into the mix, and have the punching motion to do a melee attack and the trigger to fire. Also while currently it doesn't look 'better than a mouse', if you tuned the sensitivity enough, it might just be.

  • That doesn't look better than a mouse to be honest you wern't getting round corners well at all no offence.

  • Cool! Can you share the source code for this?

  • Wtf? If this isnt fake.. I WANT IT!

  • Tell me this, is it easier to use your whole hand/shoulder or just your wrist and 2/3 fingers? While it seems grate, it's also stupid.

  • i lost it :(

    How do you shoot?

  • While this looks amazing, I somehow can't see if being "Better than a mouse". You just can't get the same precision that you can get with a mouse.

    Great innovation however.

  • No rocket-jumps, no precision anything shown...

Nice premise, but something tells me this is nowhere near keyboard/mouse, nor could it ever, even with sensitivy boosts. All of the turning is still very similar to the capped rate of a controller, and this is why controller can't possibly ever match KB/M on FPSs.

  • How do you move ? With your dick ?

  • If you think this is better than a mouse/keyboard for control in a FPS... then a mediocre PC gamer you must be. At best.

  • Better than a mouse ? ho phu-lease, leave that kinect shit out of the FPS wolrd.

We have enought with microsoft and sony to ruin it, we don't more people to intend killing our PC best game genre.

  • Comment removed

  • *boioioing boioioiiing*

  • KINECT - It only does EVERYTHING!

  • I can do almost the same with Camspace, a free software.

OK, I must use toilet gloves as a controller... XD

  • The future will bring us a lot in this direction.

    This is only the beginning!

  • are you just moving the character with arm and firing because it looks like he auto moving?

  • @Henbot

    not on rails

  • for 1 it looks Chuggy & for 2 its not better then a mouse. Lame

  • I think this is FAKE!

HOW IS HE MOVING AROUND IN THE GAME????

  • No strafe????????? When you can strafe, get back to me. And then lets see some human opponents, but it looks laggy enough that it would never get traction. Fun to see though.

  • @frgmstr there was no lag at all

  • Downtalk this all you want, but this guy will probably be contacted by some game developer with an interest in his work and he'll have the last laugh.

Good job, it looks good so far!

  • Tell me about CPU usage ! this shit is fancy but it will kill your CPU and causes least reactivity and some delay in display...

  • @medarknexs watch the video again, that is answered at the start

  • This is a great concept. This might not be the solution for games on a PC but for sure you can do amazing virtual travels through 3d worlds. I think basically you have to test different control mechanisms (e.g. in games) until you find out the best way to control movements.

Those games are made for pc's so it might be neccesary to develop new games and softwares.

  • Nice video. How about using two hands? One for running/strafing/jumping and second one for aiming and shooting?

  • "high speed kinematic tracker", with Kinect that can't handle more than 30 frames per second, and can't have a latency below 33ms??? There's a lie somewhere...

  • @shinyless

If you use direct tracking you have that problem, the solution is to use a kinematic model with feedforward projection in order to sync tracking to realtime. This is a common solution used in high speed motion control systems.

  • @MaxKinect Mhh... I'd be really really curious to see how you did to achieve this!! I also have a kinect hack, and I've latency issues due to the slow framerate... Are you planning to release the source code of your project?

  • Sorry, but no one wants to play an FPS like that. Nothing beats the mouse.

  • it works but saying this is better then a mouse or controller is just stupid still a long way to go.

  • "Better than a mouse."

    No.

  • "Not better than a mouse." - fixed

  • @irytn u didnt even try so how do u know?

  • @irytn

well of course a mouse has more precision and speed.

no one would play an online shooter with that but it's simply more fun.

playing an offline game that doesn't requiers a perfect reaction time and aiming with kinect would be way more intresting than with a mouse.

  • Very creative and I respect the work that was put into this but I'm not sold on it. I don't think you could play a competitive game like this and I did not see any kind of firing while moving. Also, shooting a machine gun by punching would be a nightmare. It's a good start, but it does not sell me on Kinect having practical use for actual gamers.

  • Latency will suck...

  • @jnmunsey one can clearly see there is no latency

  • @roidroid but I do see latency. In an FPS game even a few ms makes a difference. This time it is lag between the movement of your hand the actual game character. Not sure if that is as bad as network latency, LCD response time or LCD input lag but it is an issue nevertheless.

  • @jnmunsey oh so it's lag, which is less than LCD response time?

And you say that you can "see it"?

    haha, you liar.

  • @roidroid ummm yeah what are you watching? In the video, if it is accurately represented there is lag. Still I am willing to bet there is more lag than shown as the video author time shifted the shot of his inputs to better match with the game....

  • @jnmunsey perhaps you are mistaking the time it takes to move an arm, for lag.

    i saw no lag.

But you've got me curious now, how lag does an LCD screen have?

  • The only reason people are saying this isn't very good is because this video is on N4G and everybody on there is a ps3 fanboy. So it explains a lot really.

  • looks cool, however the shooting part(opening your hand looks dumb) it would be cool if it had a fake wireless pistol that had a trigger and couple extra buttons on it like a grenade launcher button, maybe a reload button on the bottom of the magazine and the back of the slide(tap the bottom of the magazine and tap the back of the slide to reload etc... ) cool concept though..

  • How do you move forwards and back? If pulling your arm back is moving you backwards, then how are you moving forwards again? At around 4:30-4:40, you don't do anything and your character is moving forwards again.

  • you are amazing :O !!

  • you seem to have misnamed your video

One Handed Kinect FPS Hack - Can be used instead of mouse, at the sacrifice of accuracy and speed

  • kinect: 1 ps move: 0

  • @athfuhshgh

Lol... This is not comparing Move or Kinect and Move obviously is still far more precise then Kinect not to mention it has buttons for shooting and other things...

  • strafing anyone?

  • lol @ better than a mouse. lol

  • it is tired -.-

  • I enjoy Kung Fu live on PS Move- no controllers.. I prob will get kinect also very soon... I just been ignoring the xbox lately lol cool vid

  • good for casual gamers or newbies, others just laugh on this

  • Although it is impressive because I never saw how kinect could possibly go outside the gimmick/party games. I don't want to punch/jazz hands to fire a gun I would like to pull a trigger. Just like I'd rather have an actual steering wheel/pedals for a racing game over an invisible disc.

If youre trying to get games more realistic than some kind of controller is needed...You use items in games, a gun, a sword, steering wheel, flashlight, I find it more realistic to actual have an item instead of

  • @cdcanuck Kinect should not be thought of as a peripheral to be used realistically interact with video games. Rather, a more practical thought is that Kinect should be thought of as a lazy man's controller, for those people too lazy to pick up an actual controller. The convenience of not having to get up to pick up a controller and the sense of having a futuristic style of moving a game with simple movements of your body, is what I think will be it's selling point.

  • @cdcanuck I think that the real power in kinect is augment play. i don't think that it is a replacement for the controls that we have now, but adding more controls that were not possible before. if Microsoft figures out what it has we will see some amazing games over the next couple years.

  • @cdcanuck Its nice to have options though, isn't it?

  • The responsiveness seems to be much higher than what is currently offered on Xbox. Navigating the dashboard is ridiculously slugish.

  • Try quakelive and then i can beleave you.

  • @syrefaen

    Great ideal!
