  • Nice knife

  • @TheXENitz Thanks...

  • @garyhuston ur welcome, are they easy to make for beginners ?

  • @TheXENitz if you have a reasonable knowledge of the basic hammering skills then yes, if you are a real blacksmithing novice I would probably start with something a bit more basic. If you have the time and materials, go for it, practice makes perfect!

  • @garyhuston Yea thanks, The only problem i have is that i dont have a forge.. So im going to buy one soon hopefully.. But thank you for the answer.

  • Great looking knife Gary. Can you easily temper stainless in the shop?

  • @slacktub I don't temper it at all! I don't know what grade this is but it is pretty hard so I don't bother....

  • Excellent video.I have many questions but the first one that comes to mind is how come your hammering doesn't produce a loud, ringing sound? Some videos I've seen by other smiths have been difficult to watch because of the sound of the anvil.

  • @RodneyLeonard Very good question! I have deadened the ring by mounting the anvil firstly in an angle iron frame which has 3/8" of rubber in the bottom. Really dense rubber which doesn't give much. Then it's welded onto a tube full of expanding foam, which is welded to more angle iron that is bolted to the floor through a plank of 2" wood! Easy!!

  • Brilliant video as always! Although there does seem to be a lot of "Mucking Around" going on. HA!

  • @Speculiar thanks... there is a lot of mucking about as I'm now looking for things to make but don't have time to practice so I'm learning how to do make things I've not made before on the fly!!

  • @garyhuston How about a cane handle. Like the metal topper on a cane the elderly might use to help them to get around. I know you made that Ran's Head topper for a walking stick. That was more for decoration than function though. Door Knocker. Weather Vane or a Symbol/Animal for the top of one. Fireplace Tools. The handles could be from multiple smaller rounds twisted together, then would separate out for a handle and still follow the twist of the shaft then combine at the very end.

  • sir, that is awesome. well done. yet another project to add to my "to make" list...lol i'm gonna try it in regular carbon steel though before i try to jump off into stainless...lol. gotta crawl before we can walk

  • 1: Best blacksmith on youtube

2: I love that you painted on the weight of the anvil, you must've been getting alot of questions.

    3: I did enjoy watching

  • @RYDERkN the weight has always been on the side of the anvil. now that you know where it is you can go back and see it...peace

  • @evcrawfish yeah i noticed that, but this is the first video ive seen where the weight was highlighted on the anvil

  • @RYDERkN thanks for your comment, but hardly think I deserve that!

As for the weight on the anvil, it used to be on there in gold years ago and I noticed the other day it had gone so just rubbed a piece of chalk across it for no other reason than it was there and I could!!

  • great vid thank you for sharing
