But tennis players will play 1 grueling match, then again, then again for 14 days strait if they keep winning. Haas is one of the most talented players of the decade..unfortunately due to injuries he has never been able to fulfil his potentiality... Federe is a way berrer shot making player, clay courts have not changed a bit in 20 years, but he managed to turn his game round and win the french..players like sampras failed to do so..and lendl had the same problem the other way round..the only reason why nadal managed to win also wimbledon is because grass is no longer what it used to be.. anyhow..

Did you ever recognize that a professional boxer has at maximum 5 fights in one year, while the top tennisplayers have a tournament every two weeks. If Haas withdraws from a match he has a reason. Maybe he does not want to miss the following tournaments or risk an other serious injury that could throw him back by months. Haas is one of the most talented players of the decade..unfortunately due to injuries he has never been able to fulfil his potentiality... Federe is a way berrer shot making player, clay courts have not changed a bit in 20 years, but he managed to turn his game round and win the french..players like sampras failed to do so..and lendl had the same problem the other way round..the only reason why nadal managed to win also wimbledon is because grass is no longer what it used to be.. anyhow..

@symba Ha Ha now grass is made up of clay and hard courts are made up of clay which is invisible to people.Or Now net is small or lines are far away or air has become denser,or selectively Federer`s balls are resisted by air and Nadal`s pushed by air or the side of court which Nadal plays magically becomes slower or overnight courts became a little rougher that helped Nadal ,or there was smoke in tha stadium which made the balls slower ect ect ect.HA!HA! keep on dreaming.

This obviously doesn't apply to all Nadal fans, but the most radical ones seem to have a laundry list of excuses for any time Nadal doesn't win a single match in straight sets: he was injured, he was rusty, he played some long matches recently, his opponent was given too much rest, he wasn't given enough rest, he didn't care because the match wasn't a slam match so it doesn't matter, etc. But mainly he was injured.

You need to take a course in statistics.
With the number of tennis matches going on, the chance of one particular player retiring twice against the same other player is very very high. Add to this the fact that Haas is one of the worst players for getting injured and ill ever and you'll see how this is not a problem at all. Your point is nuts.

I'm a Murray fan, I was gutted that he lost in AO 2010, but this is just complete rubbish (I'm trying to keep this 'civil'. Federer was just too good, and Haas retiring two times against Federer, I'm sorry, but you're going to want to be at your best when your playing against arguably the best player who's ever lived, and they've played loads of times!! There is corruption in sports around the world, and probably including tennis, who knows, but this isn't one of those times. Jamus182, made a good point in that Nadal puts a lot of strain on his body, which he does, because he's not a graceful player like Federer is which is the reason he's won the record amount of grandslams. Nadal swings at every ball with all the energy he has, hence, hes tired all the time.

Finally. The best interpretaion of nadals injuries I herd was that federer had brought the level of tennis so high, that the only way nadal could keep up was to put his body through so much physical anguish to get there, as a result, he gets injured., the level he played from 05, he could have been #1, but the only thing stopping him was fed, so in essance, he has spent 5 years playing the demanding tennis of a world #1 but only ever spent 3/4 of a year there because of how great this man is

Also, I remember them asking jimmy conours which route he would have prefered to the final, federer's route, where he dominated and had a bye and so had played little tennis, or nadals, how had been tested. Of course jimmy saind nadals route, because any person who has played any sport to a competative level would like to be tested at some point to hone their skills. Nadal generally suffers from season fatiuge, not match fatiuge, so it is just nonsense

And if Haas retired intentionally, the odds are it is a bigger disadvantage for Fed than Haas since he wouldn't get enough match / practice under his belt getting into finals (both in Wimbledon and Indian Wells - more so with Indian Wells since that's only out of 3 sets)

Did you ever recognize that a professional boxer has at maximum 5 fights in one year, while the top tennisplayers have a tournament every two weeks. If Haas withdraws from a match he has a reason. Maybe he does not want to miss the following tournaments or risk an other serious injury that could throw him back by months. In fact for Haas one more serious injury would probably be a carreer ender. If I was in his situation I would rather be on the safe side.
