I was fortunate to have seen Ella @ Carnigie Hall in NYC 3yrs., & 4 yrs. pre her passing. The concert 4 yrs. pre her passing she was on the stage for a total of 26 songs. The NY Times stated the next day, that there are very few singers; much younger than Ella who good "belt out" that many tunes. The concert was over @ about 1:15AM. c.suger

so simple and understated. singers these days try to add to much coloratura to it, trying to put a whole arpeggio on one note. You don't need to show off technical ability on every note. just let your voice speak for itself. the tone says it all.

The other thing, these days there is too much emphasis on a rich, heavy backing track that kind of surrounds the voice and makes it seem like voice vs instruments. Here, you can feel the interplay between them as one whole group. beautiful.

@dopak22 Seems to me the music industry died a long time ago. We now have an entertainment industry. Offcourse we still have talented musicians, but they don't seem to get enough recognition. It seems that any drop-out can spew their retarded drivel into a mic with a some kind of a 4-4 beat under it.
