  • Art blakey is one of the most amazing jazz drummers.

  • 「日野皓正」若すぎ。ピアノに「キレ」が有ってとっても素敵。

  • From his first recording (in his own name)!! Blue Note ST-84109 He was and is the king,, Listen to him on Wayne Shorters` debut,: Night Dreamer!!!

  • outstanding

  • Tremenda B. Bang y tremendo H. Hancock.

  • Formidable!

  • Incredible!

  • dood it's the 80's haha

  • could herbie have worn a more gay outfit?

  • Don't blame him, blame the 80's.

  • @trump34 Could it really have mattered less, compared to what kind of talent he's got? Appearances obviously mean nothing.

  • @user5649 Sorry if I offended you. I didn't realize someone who shares that same fashion taste woulld read this.

  • @trump34 You didn't offend me, and I'm not saying I love what he's wearing either, I'm simply pointing out the fact that a lot of people (Americans especially) typically look at other people's outside appearances instead of just appreciating what humans are capable of. Just like Herbie here...

  • @trump34 Hahahahahahaha!! I love Herbie to death but that comment is so on the money!

  • Trumpeter Bill Hardman called Art Blakey.."my old man". Blakey always played with great feeling and always set the pace, leading and pushing every bunch of guys he played with.

  • man, herbie is killin! haha it's funny at 5:49 the tenor player plays that out of tune note and his facial reaction. that's the real deal! good stuff

  • agree. just prefer the original small group vibe. felt more like a funky blowing session.

  • Herbie wrote it. Recorded around '63 in Rudy Van Gelder's Studio for Blue Note Records. This version ok but the original with small group MUCH better. This is still a nice piece of video though.

  • The album was called Taking Off and I do like how the arranger used parts of the original solo. The two versions are different. There is something a big band can do and a small group can't and viceversa.

  • deaf as fuck and he still swung his ass off... amazing

  • This tune was on Herbie Hancock's debut album. It's awesome with the small group and AMAZING with the big band here. This is 5 Stars all the way!!!

  • WOW, Art Blakey is Timeless!!!

  • Did y'all dig the piano intro by Herbie? That's some serious business to go from Bartok type stuff, Ravel into a classic blues shuffle.

  • gotta think of this this way, jazz & blues is american classical, not so far off the mark . this is a rad video.;;taps toes::

  • Great! Thanks.
