  • Very cool. (I just noticed my YouTube image, LOL. That is me on top of Mt. Currahee!!) Anyway, did you happen to go up and see the marker that the boys had to touch?

  • Just went up the mountain again this year. Anyone interested needs to look up Currahee Military Weekend.

  • i'm going to stone mnt in late october. i want to go there. how do i find the access rd once i'm in toccoa?

  • i want to run that mountain eventually

  • Cool.

  • One day, I'll run up and down Currahee :)

  • I live next to Currahee. It is a beautiful mountain. It means "stands alone" not "watercress place" or whatever.

  • Three Miles Up, Three Miles Down

    AIRBORNE!!!

  • 3 miles up, 3 miles down!!

  • I went thru Basic at Ft. Knox, and we had two hills called "Agony" and "Misery". I won't say they were tougher than Currahee, but they sure busted my ass. But then that was 40 yrs ago, and I couldn't even drive it now without stopping to pee.

  • One thing hard to show on video, is the steepness of the grade of hill you're traveling up. From about 3:30 and up its pretty steep.

  • i posted on this awhile back, saying i ran it every weekend, well running it every weekend made me 2 who i am 2day, an Air Force PJ, thank goodness 4 that mountain.

  • ;-) Hi... This is the THIRD "video" .. which I have watched today.. Around the MEANING .. of a SIGN. ...?... Or.! The action- of Standing Alone & (of) Currahee I first saw - Drawing Heaven Akiane Kramarik.flv (uploaded by: maustincpt) And - I've just come - from this video... What Curahee means (uploaded by: maustincpt) Thus now: I am going to soon see (after this video buffers correctly) Currahee.
  • I ran it last week - first 2 miles not too bad - last mile a killer!!! Plus they ran it it shitty shoes not nive Asics like me!

  • my ears popped!

  • Thank you!

  • I have walked up that mountain and let me tell you, any thought of "Oh it doesn't look THAT steep" that might enter your mind from watching this are WRONG lol.

  • Currahee....OIF....03-05....Ramadi Iraq

  • 3 miles up, 3 miles down -- six miles all around -- Currahee -- HOOAH :D Sobel trained them well -- no matter what. Without Sobel -- they'd probably not be in as good of shape. I hate that Sobel tried to commit suicide, and let himself die of malnutrition when he couldn't shoot himself. Nobody from Easy showed to his funeral or would want to -- so they didn't have one because nobody that was alive -- would show up to his funeral.

Band of Brothers portrayed all of the men the right wayy <3

  • Looked like even your car struggled getting up that hill

  • i hope that graffiti is respectful stuff, not like tagging, ah man that would be a shame. Btw I was watching a documentary about BoB before and saw a picture of a paratrooper sitting on the rock at 7:02, looking off the mountain after a hard days run up Curahee, very cool!

  • I was just there today. If you ever go, you MUST check out the museum in Toccoa, GA, located in the Amtrak station downtown. They've done a wonderful job. Lots of militaria, and an authentic stable in which the actual Easy Company used while in England. They have a letter on display that they found while dismantling the stable in England. The letter was from "Bull" Randleman's mother.

  • man i'd like to run this

  • Sucks that they took the audio down...8(

  • O wow....Ima history buff as well. I especially love anything to do with WWII. I think its mostly because my grandfather was a soldier at that time and was involved in the war. I love, love ,love the Band of Brothers.

  • i run it every weekend, when i was in 9th grade i won the 5k, then in 10th and 11th i got 3rd and 4th for the 10k, i run it for those men that fought, i'll soon be fighting too for this beautiful country. ---ROTC, Captain Williams

  • Is there a military base there anymore?

  • They closed down the military base after the end of the war in the late 1940's, The only thing that's there Is the mess Hall.

  • First thank you for your service and second I'm impressed that you run that every weekend! That is incredible

  • I was there today. I have to go back in the first of October for the 101st Airborne Reunion held every year. We run Currahee every year for the Reunion, well the people who want to. It's one tough run! "3 miles up, 3 miles down"

  • I hope that the reunion went really well, maybe next year we can come up to watch you guys.

  • @blake1653 Ah- then YOU .. may have also "heard" of one Lieutenant Brian Brennan .. (whom was woken by his 4star general - from a near death coma - after losing BOTH his legs - to a bomb on active duty .. simply by the single UNIT SHOUT - of 1-2-3 Currahee.!)

  • @blake1653 i would love to make that trip but 3 miles isnt that rough :P here in Mexico Monterrey we have Chipinque and we hike to El Pinar its around 20Km (12,42 miles) :) but i think it would be more interesting to go to curahee to that reunion im a fan of BoB to

  • Wow!! The real hill? Best series EVER!!!

    AIRBORNE!!

  • LOL, yes it was a great series and yep its the real hill. I wish I could really show how steep it really is

  • @SSGLuceyGirl I have to admit- it wasn't as good as I'd hoped to SEE- given it's MAJOR military & historical significance- simply because there's way_to_much foliage & bush cover- to enable ONE to_see very much from atop (or for that matter- anywhere along the route UP) Plus- for such an important local feature- that access road was extremely POORLY maintained & you poor people? WHAT AN UGLY smog infiltrated SKY you have there?

Even if you HAD unobstructed views- YOU still couldn't SEE very far

  • @QUIX4U Well I live in Toccoa. This video doesnt do the mtn. much justice. It is actually a pretty beautiful and steep place especially when at the top. Its active hunting area and other things. So not much clearing is going on. Besides if you cleared the trees to the side of the road, it would be a drop off at some points. All in all cant really explain it unless you see it.

  • @Skylar2556 Yeah I know.! It doesn't MATTER how good a video "is"- it NEVER shows the "feeling" one gets- standing near the edge, Nor does it "give" the true impression that simply BEING THERE (on the spot) gives one.! Sadly- YOU will never know- the 'same" feelings about MY "high_country" antics- seen from within my 4WD (as when driving - I can't video & drive ? At the same time) Nor- does the "height_effect" come across in ANY video (such as My own Queenstown / Arrowtown / Crown Range "video")

  • @SSGLuceyGirl At the Milliken Plant at the bottom of the mountain, if you look to the left of the structure behind the textile mill, you can see a series of squat block buildings. These are the remnants of Camp Toccoa that Easy Company trained at. I used to work at that mill, and we used the buildings for storage. If you went inside and looked around, on some of the rafters you could read Graffiti from when Easy was first there.

  • Those boys would have been crazy fit!! Soble was made out to be a villian in the series..but he prepared and toughend them up using currahee! The guys who returned owe that guy their lives in many respects..not enough is said bout that! Great vid..

  • Hey Thanks for the comment, its really sad but I haven't watched the series (not yet) but I think I'm going to pull it out to watch. I have heard it was a incredible series and maybe fun to watch with hubby. Just visiting the mountain, it really gave me admiration alone for what they did. Thanks again - Ton of hugs Mel

  • Wouldn't have liked to have run that... still might attempt it one day though.

  • I hope you get the day of attempting to run it. Thanks for your comment - Ton of hugs Mel

  • uber cool, good video

  • Thanks Ton of hugs Mel

  • It was a good long climb, Mel, but the view was worth it!

  • Thankfully we were in the van to get up, but to this day people jog up and down it. Very impressive! Ton of hugs Mel

  • LOL Those joggers have a lot more stamina than me...

  • LOL there would be no way I could even attempt it myself. Ton of hugs Mel

  • I wouldn't mind hiking it, though...

  • band of brothers 3 miles up 3 miles down. and people vomited...yuck so much for capt sobel he really pushed his men to much

  • I can see how people could get sick from running up and down, but it definately got them prepared and strong

  • @SSGLuceyGirl yep and thats why they where one of the best groups in the war

  • @xwawas but it payed off for those men to have such a legacy now!!!!

  • @xwawas No, he didn't. If he hadn't, they would never have become one of the best trained outfits World War 2 has produced. Many of the men in the 101st credited Sobel's harshness for helping them survive.

  • I am a big fan of Band of Brothers too Mel! Awesome View at the Top Too. Thanks for sharin the video of you all's trip there. Peace, Love & HUGS To Ya.

  • See I learned something else about you in this video, I have to tell you the top view was amazing especially with seeing the many hawks that were soaring right above our heads Ton of hugs Mel

  • Nice and woodsy.Reminds me of the fire cuts in the upper peninsula of Michigan.:)

  • Thanks I kind of wished I video taped more when we were driving at the top of the mountain.. there were a few times however I thought we were going to get stuck or not get down that mountain. But the view above made it all worth it. Ton of hugs Mel

  • Beautiful area!

  • Aw Thanks honestly this is just a video I have promised hubby to put for a couple of months ago. I think you would like the video before this one - LOL! Miss you and ton of hugs Mel
