  • I'd like this better without vocals.

  • @OfficialFrizzo

So would I. I think the concept of vocals in general is too complicated for minimalist pieces like this and dampens the experience.

  • is Bernard Fowler on vocals...

  • This is indescriptible

  • Mr. Philip Glass Musician of time

  • @5:21- @6:40 When the two masters of art meet.

    Philip Glass and David Lynch.

  • Beautiful.

  • fantastic it took me more then twenty years to live this song;

deep within; in soft air.maybe its the w...bedrading what s it in

    English?

    Annemiek

  • Rob Delaney

  • @MrJones390 he sounds like Tommy Shaw from the rock band STYX

  • anyone have a link to a version without the singing?

  • man... I just love Philip. but I don't care for the occasional singers who decide to join him. They should leave him alone. They distract me. Philip is more than amazing on his own.

  • i just found Philip Glass' music a few minutes ago and it's absolutely breathtaking!

i think more people my age (I'm 16) should listen to music like this instead of the pointless chart-songs about partying and getting drunk or stoned all the time.

I really like this minimalist Style of Glass' Songs!! :)

  • @Zeitungspapierhut

    See the movie Koyaanisqatsi.

  • @Zeitungspapierhut i was 16 when i became introduced to him in a little movie called KOYAANIQUATSI

  • @Zeitungspapierhut Then you might want to listen to Wim Mertens and Yann Tiersen. I love Philip Glass' music and I respect him as a composer, but I think his music isn't fit for large audiences. Some people are unable to understand his minimalist style and get frustrated.

Let us enjoy him! Vielleicht wäre es unmöglich, eine gute Diskussion über Glass' Musik zu führen, wenn es Menschen, die sich nur mit Pop- und Rapsongs beschäftigen, hier wären, oder?

  • @Zeitungspapierhut I grew up listening to this stuff. Its so genuine..there is nothing more true then pure instrumental expression. Getting stoned is fun by the way..Not all the time, but try listening to this song when your perceptions are heightened by the THC.

  • @Zeitungspapierhut I agree!

  • thats right, a masterpiece, but when you compare it to almost anything Mozart has composed as a child... its dead simple :(

  • @TomTheHarmonicaKid Mozart copied a lot of the stuff his dad did...

  • @TomTheHarmonicaKid There are artists that play a style that doesn't display what they are probably fully capable of, you know. I mean doom metal guitarists can do more than 1 chord per 5 secs, so to speak.

  • @TomTheHarmonicaKid Why should he compose what Motzart composed, Motzart already composed it!

  • Nice to hear this again. I have the vinyl LP I bought in 1986 when this first came out and I don't think I've played it in years.

  • I'm sorry but the picture at 0:38 looks like male genitalia made out of light on top of the piano.

  • @gardygar You REALLY need to get out more...

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm studying a stats exam with this in the background right now.

  • What a Masterpeice!

  • 0:55

    OMG IT's A DICK!!!

  • Sounds like the Fringe theme song inspiration.

  • @contactxain

That was the first thing came t my mind when i heard it!

  • it went huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

  • I SO love this piece of Glass. Thank you for posting it and for giving it such awesome visuals.

  • Very "high" music in did!!

    BOOM

  • WE DAS RACIST WE PLAY JOKE !!

  • blah blah blah blah blha MY OPINION THIS blah blah blah I THINK THAT blah yakkety bleh bleh blah blah blah yak yak I'M RIGHT BECAUSE bleh blech yakkety smackety blah blah AND YOU'RE WRONG blah blah bleh bleh WELL WHAT I THINK IS blah blah yak yak yak blah blah

  • Eh his stuff is better w/o lyrics.

  • This song is over 20 years old............very advanced for the day

  • @1rylo I thought philip glass was from the 40s?

  • @19ZeldaLover95 Fake, i saw him 2 weeks ago in orlean where he plays MAD RUSH...

  • @endeavourthelimits It's minimalist music. Minimalist music often has different parts in different tempos and/or time signatures at the same time.

  • @endeavourthelimits - It's minimalist music. Not everything is going to be at the same tempo and/or time signature.

  • close attention and a musicmind..

  • The voice is taking over the tune and it almost sounds like it is not at all synchronized with it.

  • do someone know where i can get this sheet?for piano?

  • it went mmm... *nods* :)

  • magique

  • Never mind what I said one day ago, this is how Philip Glass wants it to be or it wouldn't be on the album like this, so just enjoy it for how it is, because I'm doing that and getting more out of it then I ever thought I could get out of a song like this.

  • The vocals are OK, but they overwhelm the music a little and sound too much like pop or something for this piece.

  • Absolutely engaging!

  • Excellent!

  • this piece of music does things to me it probably shouldn't! LOVE IT

  • Without the voice it would feel, because of the mood swings, feel like movie music. I agree the voice is too present at times.

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  • LUVIT!

  • is it just me that sees a penis on the piano @0.37 ???

  • @ringworm232

You must hear the song in the context of the entire album.

  • Singing ruins it.

  • Sounds similar to Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd,

  • do not like the vocals

  • @cmonutube Explain your dislike of the vocals...? I find them perfectly ethereally suited to the music. Just wondering.

  • @GavinLiamLogan for me it takes away my interpretation of the music. I like philip glass because his instrumentals speak to me. When vocals and deliberate meaning are added to the music, I feel like the meaning that I applied to the song disappears and is replaced by someone elses interpretation of glasses music. Also, I just think this guys voice is kind of annoying and doesnt fit the instrumentals.

  • @cmonutube Ah...makes sense, even though we disagree! :)

  • @cmonutube i actually like the fact that it hard to find any meaning in the vocals. But i think that no ones voice would fit the music so therefore the vocals will always be bad

  • PG is a genius

  • The work of Philip Glass frees me. The vocal accompaniment in this piece is particularly interesting although I do not see the connection with the graphics. I'm picturing a stage with the vocalist performing in the setting of an opera with costuming provided by the woman who gave us Love with the Cirque de Soleil.

  • This is one of my favorites! I never get tired of this! NEVER!

  • ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE. Never dated. I am thankful for Glass' works. There is a lot to be learned from a Glass Piece.

  • Pure Magic with lyrics of "Maybe it's the hum of a calm refrigerator cooling on a big night "

and the best one of all has to be the mention of "soft air".

It must be an extremelly diffucult song to song as well.

  • How I hope someone will upload OPEN THE KINGDOM from this album.

  • My favourite Glass track... An Epic...

  • Beautiful Piece, instrumentals and vocals!

  • i loved this one. wore it out also

  • I use to weaR THIS OUT WHEN i WAS 16. Scared the hell out of my parents-)

  • @TTLTOY1

I thought I was the only one who wore this recording out! I believe it's because this music makes a lot of sense. PEACE

  • I think the vocals take away from the song.

  • they sound really cheesy to me, especially against Phillip Glass

  • abruptus finale.....!?

  • alright this is pretty sweet.

  • Absolutely awesome...

    Masterpiece.....

Thanks for this great music Philip Glass!

  • Youtube : " Lontano"

  • Glass...Glass....you make me feel like no one else.....

  • i was in philadelphia.or new jersey,&was thinking grey thoughts and felt unconnected, disconnected, very tired. someone put this album on.Liquid Days.

    this track woke me up.

  • Is it Paul Simon who sing this? woever sings this is fantastic.

  • The singer is Bernard Fowler. (Piano: Michael Riesman, Flute: Paul Dunkel)

Absolutely great, I love Philip Glass!

  • U-A-U!!!

  • Another favorite from Philip..Thanks!

  • This is one of my favorite pieces, from one of my favorite albums of all time, "Songs From Liquid Days". Philip Glass rules. I love Paul Simon's lyrics in this song...the electrical fridge hum that could be our parents voices from long ago...WOW.

  • I never grow tired of listening to this highly emotive, creative and beautiful song. One cannot merely hear it as background music. It begs you to pay close attention.

  • @2lioncobra

ABSOLUTELY. WILL NEVER GROW TIRED OF THIS MASTERPIECE.

  • this song is beautiful... i have my own interpretation of the lyrics, what are other people getting out of it tho?

  • Wow!!! thank you for posting this.... I haven't heard this song for ages...mmm...Sometimes twas a murmur, Sometimes twas a pulse...... mmmm....

Maybe it's hum of changing opinion...

Phew!!!...now my mind is humming, ...back to the late 80s. Thank you again for posting this!

  • Glass is a National Treasure. Fantastic delight!!!

  • wow i hear a bit of the Fringe theme in this

  • fantastic . who couldnt love it?betty

  • thanks... i want this song for years...

    five star sure

  • 0:38 is cool.

  • I havent heard it also in...about....10 or 12 years......i'm really glad i'll have found it again!!!!!!

    The Flut and Voice are........Magical...!!

    Rene (The Netherlands)

  • this song is amazing new yorks phillip glass amazes me with his impressive music ay i love eveng song of satgraha its brilliant music in listen to this music so much it inspires me towards thinking of sydney by night and day and towards other places like the everchanging tokyo and new york and denmark

  • at 0:41- 0:50, the photos with the machine projecting images toward the ceiling... what is that thing and/or where is that?

  • nice pictures, there was no need for lyrics though lol

  • Love this! haven't heard it in 15 years. Thank you so much for putting it up. This is one of the most underappreciated albums in the history of music. (OK, I get worked up sometimes.)

  • @peace4bne

It's ok to get worked up. Totally underappreciated recordings. Your post made me laugh.

  • @peace4bne I fell in love with this amazing album too.....used to play it nonstop for hours!!! I thought Glass was a genius for writing it... until i started to hear other pieces by him and realized they were almost all the same :P. The man shamelessly plagerized himself again and again and again and.... but at least he put together this one AWESOME album!!!!
