Let's be honest. Jerry Rice fumbled that ball. That being said this is one of my favorite memories as a niner fan. Steve Young at his best, a healthy Garrison Hearst, redemption for Terrell Owens after such an awful game, the great defense of the 49ers, Brett Favre at his best and a fantastic rivalry. Who could ask for anything more?

Coaches can't make challenges in the last 2 minutes of a half, but the booth makes the challenges in the last 2 minutes of a half. That play would have been challenged from the booth and would have been overturned.

I remember watching this game when I was 8, that was the day I really started loving football and till this day I have never seen a game as exciting as this one. What a great rivalry and a heated game. Im favoriting this for nostalgia. Niners fan btw :).

The 2 Big Games that i can remember between the 49ers and Packers are the 1998-1999 NFC Wild Card Game and the 1996 Monday Night Football Game that was won in overtime i would love to see these 2 classic games again if somebody has them?

I didn't say it was a bad call, I'm just saying it's dumb for Packers fans to bitch about that one call when they've had some help in the prior three or four games leading up to that contest. I remember watching this game when I was 8, that was the day I really started loving football and till this day I have never seen a game as exciting as this one. What a great rivalry and a heated game. Im favoriting this for nostalgia. Niners fan btw :).

Too bad they didn't have instant replay back then.Rice definitely fumbled, but with some of these NFL refs, you never know.Would have taken some big balls by the ref to call that fumble on Rice in San Fransisco.Even with clear evidence, the chances of Green Bay getting that call would've still been 50/50

it cracks me up that the pakers fans still can't let this go. That fumble wasn't the end of the world. One of the DB's had a clear chance for an interception a few plays later. Not to mention that TO's catch was only possible because your DB's messed up and left a crease in the prevent defense...which should never happen. tl,dr version: Quit bitching!

So I started watching the Packers when I was 5 in 1992. And since then, the niners only beat the Pack once and they needed the refs help to do it.
Seriously everytime the packers play the niners to this day I still treat it as a bye, even in 2006 when the packers were 4-8 and the niners were wild card contenders because it has become so normal for me to see them beat sf
but anyways....Im glad I finally found this vid, I almost forgot how pathetic that call was

Look there was no Instant Replay back then. You know how many teams had calls go against them back then (and still sometime do). It's part of the game. Like Steve Young said, "Yeah it was a lucky call but the Packers still owe us another 4 or 5".

Home field advantage would have done nothing for the 49ers in 1997. This fumble by Jerry Rice was blatant, and the call was intentionally ignored because the refs felt sorry for you. The Garry Plumber thing I have no idea what you're talking about.

It wasn't the playoffs and it wasn't intentionally missed. The Packers might (probably) have scored on that drive anyway, you don't know. Furthermore the Packers would have beaten the 49ers in the playoffs even if the game was played in Candlestick and many of the the fans attending would have been cheering for Green Bay. The fumble by Rice was right there in front of the ref, and would have immediately ENDED the game, but he blew the call to give San Fransisco another shot.

Maybe if Brett didn't throw two interceptions in that game and Dorsey Levens didn't fumble they wouldn't have been in that position in the first place. Don't be mad because LeRoy Butler got destroyed three times on this last drive. Nobody will remember him except those who ran over him and enjoyed it.
