my old neighbour had one or has one and recently i went to his house and he told me he used to be a rcmp officer back in Quebec which was interesting to find out
I own a 1992 Sedan Deville and it is awesome. Can't find any European or Japanese luxury car of the same era that has that kind of appeal. I've driven older BMWs' and Mercedes' before (never owned them though) and they are not as comfortable of a ride. Even with 20 year of fewer safety features than the modern cars, I feel so safe in that big boat of a Cadillac. Newer cars may have more safety features but will still crumble upon a collision.
I own a 1989 Deville and this is one of the best Cadillacs I ever bought. After 20 years and 120,000 miles it runs like new, uses no oil, no sqeaks no rattles and averages 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The ride is super smooth. I had a 1996 Seville with the Northstar and these are junk. The all aluminum engine always develops oil leaks and at higher mileage the head bolts strip and you face either major repair or a costly replacement. The late 80 and early 90 Cadillacs were true quality.
So true, they say the HT4900 had the least problems out of all Cadillacs engines. My 90' deville had 512,000kms on it before the heads went. My 95 Seville only runs good if I'm hard on its Northstar, and 205,000kms and still solid. It really depends on your knowledge of the engine itself and the maintenance that SHOULD be done regardless of what Cadillac used to say.
Caddys last forever if u take care of em,,,And those 80 yos had a lot of power in their hands with these,, always hurd these cars can pass anything but a gas station!,,Nothing rides like a Caddy!!
I just picked up a 93 Deville. Perfect int, perfect body/pain, low miles, everything. For 500 bucks. Only thing wrong with it was the heater didn't work, and the trany had a lockup problem. But as a mechanic, i was able to fix these for about 200 bucks. As a performance tech, i was all about performance (stripped down chassis, with the bigest motor i could find) Now durring work days, it's all about style!
just got an extramely clean '96 in May '07 with 42k. fast, with the ERS it corners like sports car, gives good mpg , luxorious. all for 5K???? wowowowowow
the s280 is slower. to be able to move a 4000ib car in 8.7sec (in its day i guess)is a fair achievement for any engine (re s320).even if its one of the smallest engine.the v8 is the engine to have.just for the sound alone.german car american or otherwise.
I don't think so these caddies from the early 90's before the northstar engine was spose to be pretty reliable like the lincoln town car is. It was when the northstar was put into caddies like the El Dorado then they started being more average and the reliability wasn't very good.

to me it was a sad day when all these models rolled their last off the assembly line

A 200 HP V8?! THATS WEAK! V6's can produce over 300 horsepower these days.
Planeguy13 1 year ago
@Planeguy13 Yeah but it depends on how much torque it would pull of it so hp isn´t everything.

Unless I'm hit by a train or a semi-truck, I'm definitely walking away from my 1992 Deville (God forbid) if it ever got into a collision.

the 4.9l is bullet proof. Possibly the most reliable engine cadillac has ever produced. God bless you 4.9 liter.

The Northstar engine although less reliable put Cadillac back on the Perfomance map.

just another great cadillac. this car with the 4.5 or 4.9 engine was just bulletproof and very quick.

Yep, however the 4.1 had lots of problems.

Better than some broke ass little six cylinder like an S320 has in it, the poorest of the S class.
