  • Wow. This film looks powerful to say the least. I recently saw "Hell and Back Again" which was the military documentary shown at last years Sundance. This movie was incredibly well-made. The transitions from scenes of Sgt. Nathan Harris in Afghanistan leading his men into enemy territory to Nathan back home in struggling to recover from a gunshot wound and deal with the mental casualties of being a soldier were flawless. The story is beautiful and tragic all in one.

  • This sadly seems to reflect the Catholic Church in the worst possible way.

  • this looks interesting. in south korea, there have been 8 cases since i've been here with the US Army. every single guy has had jail time - one got sent to a korean jail and will stay there for 10 years. i find this movie interesting, because i want to see what lengths these poor women actually went through. the organizations over here take this very very seriously, and we're constantly briefed on the multiple ways to report these cases. either way, this should be taken seriously.

  • The only good thing the military excels at is in killing. The above documentary makes it clear that as an institution it sucks at everything that smacks vaguely of justice. What else does one expect from an institution that refers to bombed civilians as ``collateral damage''.

  • @suhailshafi hmm... i'm sure you have your reasons for believing this. but i've had incredibly positive experiences with my service. we're not all evil. and the system is as flawed as any system. that's why there are those of us who try to improve it. we do a lot more than just kill. but i suppose not everyone wants to believe that.

  • Toutube play with the views again

  • I still do not understand why people even join the army let a lone women. Our wives, sisters and daughters have got no business in an institution of hate, murder, and all the dispicable things one can ever think of.

  • @beteck123 i'm sorry, but the army has taught me a lot about myself, and i've become a better person because of it. i met my wife because of the army. and we don't all kill babies. and believe it or not, not all command teams foster any of what you speak of. we are people, just like you, trying to do the best that we can with our lives. i am in no way downplaying the movie. i think it's important to be critical and expose all the flaws of every organization. but hate breeds hate.

  • Thaimp...No I was not talking about how women can't be good CID agents. I was saying that for someone to suggest reporting their assault to the CID is equally problematic as one of the survivors depicted in the film WAS A CID agent. She still got the shaft and was drummed out of the military! They didn't even take care of her or her case and she was one of their "OWN"! That was my point.

  • I have a "beef" with people who seem to think they know what this film is about. WATCH it when it comes out and you will see that we are not trying to sway people from the military. It's about being assaulted and raped and the repercussions we suffer with years later because the military didn't want to acknowledge anything.BTW, this "Marines Barracks" that you are so proud of is where one of our survivors was assaulted AND where the Marines who assaulted ME were stationed.so dont judge too quick

  • @LexNaturalis I beg to differ. This film is NOT to slander the military. Many of us who are in the documentary in no way said anything that is "anti-military" in a sense you think. We took pride in our service. Most of us didn't even want to leave the military even after what happened to us. I even tried reenlisting THREE times after I was discharged!! I LOVED the military and to this day, I still support it. I am just AGAINST the superiors who wouldn't have my back. For shoving this under a rug

  • Comment removed

  • Just saw the director get interviewed on Link TV, a notoriously anti military channel, about Marine Barracks. Vague accusations like "I heard people say," & such, do not make a documentary. Especially sense the officer making the accusation could have charged them on a dime under the UCMJ & they would have be in the brig in a matter of minutes on a number of articles. While sexual assault no doubt happenes in the military as it does everywhere, make no mistake that this film is targeted slander

  • The military does get away with murder.. What a shame..

  • What did you sign up for? to go thousands of miles away and kill dark poor and defenseless people?

All military and their murdering thugs sign up to see "action" (murder and carnage) I deplore the act of rape or any violence for that matter, and the US millitary is the most vile red neck barbarians in the world!

So one can only sympathies with the millitary or their victims, NOT BOTH!

The millitary is one of the least honorable professions.

  • @valfarhad i'm sorry i disagree with you. i'm not trying to argue about it. but i said this in another comment. hate only breeds more hate. we aren't all evil. but i suppose the disconnect of our modern society has formed a rather Marxist view of the military these days.

  • @AshleyHolzmann Well the military knows all about hate and rape and carnage, I'm sorry but the civilians are not the problem, the military and their toys are!

What has Marxism have to do with stating the facts?

That's the standard response from the right, when they have nothing else to say accept to label people communist or Marxist.

Nationalism is the virtue of the vicious. "Oscar wild" which is how militarism is justified.

  • @valfarhad you're entirely entitled to your opinion

  • Sorry LaylaT6, I tried to respond, but your system didn't like the content as it exceeded the allowed number of words, c'est la vie, or guerre if you prefer.

  • Thank you to those who support us "survivors". It saddens me that we are put down for joining the military, people saying we should have fought back etc. i joined the military so that I can have stability and a career. I LOVED being in the Army I just hate what happened to me. I am not even against the military because of it. I am only against them for discharging me for something I didn't do AND not helping me when I got out. I am just happy to be a voice for those who can't speak about it.

  • @tanfin2010 So you only care about what happened to you! the fact that the military is a cruel and unjust organization who's sole purpose is destruction, does not bother your?

  • @thaimp Anyway, I got an Honorable discharge but then they didnt want to give me benefits. Since I lost my career, I no longer feared anything so I reported the rape. They couldnt do anything about it because I didnt KNOW who the guys were. I knew where they were stationed and thats it. So I pretty much let it go and have spent my life since then wishing I had reported it while I was in. But still, I didnt know who guys were. It tortures me to this day that I could do nothing.

  • @tanfin2010 What sort of problems are you having regarding your benefits? Is that sorted out now? The VA bureaucracy is just as bad as any other federal bureaucracy, I know it can take some pushing to get them to give you what you're entitled to. If you need help, I encourage you to talk to someone at your local VFW or other vets organization. They often have really awesome advocates that will help you with the VA for free.

  • @thaimp Nobody was prosecuted. I initially suffered through 6mos of sexual harassment and was diagnosed with ptsd and major depression. Because of that, the military was in the process of sending me home. The rape/assault happened to me by two Marines. (I was in the Army) I got pregnant from the rape and therefore was afraid to report it in fear it would give them more reason to send me home. I got even more depressed after the assault and the military ended up discharging me.

  • @tanfin2010 I'm so sorry to hear about your attack, and I'm also sorry to hear that the men who attacked you were not brought to justice. I encourage you to give whatever details you have to CID or any federal law enforcement agency. It sounds like you may not have much information to give (since you do not know who your attackers were). But, you never know...

  • One of the women in the film WAS a CID agent....Brilliant idea to report to a CID agent...Geez....

  • @crgedney Are you arguing that a woman who has been assaulted can't be a good CID agent? That it would be a bad idea to report an assault to CID because one of their agents was a victim herself? Cause, if that's not what you're arguing, I fail to see how your comment is in any way relevant.

  • Anyone who commits rape is NOT a Soldier. There is always someone complaining that the Army is being watered down by Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault training awareness;this is not the truth. Real Soldiers and Leaders will not stand by and allow such crimes to happen in the military ranks.I am man who will intervene to protect my brothers and sisters from the cowardly crime of sexual assault.Call me a snitch if you like;this snitch will give stitches. I will FIGHT the enemy within the ranks.

  • @Einmalig001 Thank you for having honour and being a decent human being. We need more like you. Men in the military should be the most vocal about this problem, because it is the actions of select monstrous people like these rapists which are dishonouring all military mens and womens status as warriors and heroes, and dehumanizing their fellow comrades, male and female, who are victims of assault.

Where is the honour in this? How can these men continue to wear their uniform proudly?

  • I'm a military lawyer in the Air Force. The majority of the criminal cases I've tried (both on the prosecution side and the defense) have involved either drugs or sex offenses. I've never encountered a commander that would cover up a sexual assault. What I have seen are cases that are sent to trial despite lawyers advising that the evidence is lacking (unfortunately, not uncommon in sex assault cases). We routinely take cases to trial that civilian prosecutors would never touch.

  • @thaimp That being said... I am a lawyer in the Air Force, I can't speak for the other services...

  • You are right, correcting the problem should not fall on the victims, but you will wait until hell freezes over for the male structured military, DOD and Congress to reach a fair solution. For women to continue to serve in the military with the present lack of moral conduct, they are feeding the beast. I still think it must be starved, i.e., an all male military. It was a different organization when we served – not perfect, but not Jack the raper.

  • @hmspina I have a sneaking suspicion that the implementation of an all-male military will just lead to a rise in the number of civilian women being raped where those soldiers are stationed.

The problem we have to solve is a social and deeply ingrained hatred of women and an acceptance of this behaviour by other men. I really believe the power to change this culture lies in the hands of men, who could make sexually aggressive behaviour and objectification of women unacceptable culturally

  • This complicates things. On the one hand I'm very sympathetic to the plight of these assault victims. On the other hand I like seeing the imperial army flounder. At a minimum I hope this turns women away from joining the imperial army. In fact, why don't you join the anti-war movement instead?

  • And so the feminisation continues. Speech codes and fucking aromatherapy as a 'gendered' alternative to PT can't be far behind.

  • @goatshredder how in the world is bringing rapists to justice (in the military or otherwise) EVEN REMOTELY considered "feminisation"? This isn't about "gendered" alternatives to anything - it's about CRIME.

  • And guess what these "brave soldiers" would be doing with the so-called "enemy" countries with women and children.

My sympathies are with American oppressed people, but it is you who have armed a mad community with unlimited arms and powers without any questioning, reasoning or accountability.

Vote for some real change in 2012 elections! Not just military-corporate hacked puppet like Bush or Obama.

  • That awkward moment when you're the director of a documentary about sexual assault (rape) and you last name is dick

  • SMASH PATRIARCHY!!!!

  • from what I understand, a victim has to report the rape to her superior- EVEN IF HE WAS THE PERPETRATOR, then HE gets to decide whether it is investigated or not!! It's no wonder that it's happening all over the armed forces. Guys are pretty much allowed to do what they want.

  • @gryphon50c This is not accurate. A victim of sexual harrassment, sexual assault or rape can report it directly to the military police, to medical providers, to a professional counselor, to the chaplain, or to a Victim Advocate. She can also report it to ANYONE at any level in her supervisory chain - for example, if HER supervisor was the perpetrator, she can report it to the supervisor's boss.

  • @FrLandon This is not about the reporting, its about the entire process and the Commanders that cover it up, and investigate the victims. Reporting is only a small part of the problem and the idea that its easy to do anything after a rape is insulting. In some cases the police are the ones under investigation and going to them is not an option.

  • @AmericanHinves The majority of cases I've prosecuted as a military lawyer (JAG) have been against military police. I've never seen a Security Forces commander (Air Force Military Police) who was shy about bringing sexual assault charges when the evidence is there... often they bring the charges even when the evidence is not there. (Hence the military's dismal conviction rate for sexual assault - we take cases to trial that a civilian prosecutor wouldn't touch.)

  • @AmericanHinves ... That there are individuals who hinder the process of investigation and prosecution. I also acknowledge that the nature of rape makes it hard to report to even the most sympathetic person and to the most supportive agency. I admit is a sad fact.

  • @AmericanHinves My comment @gryphon50c was specifically about gryphon50c's statement that "a victim has to report the rape to her superior". That is simply untrue. There are many reporting channels available to the victim, if she can overcome the fear and (undeserved) shame and make the report.

  • @FrLandon She can report it to whoever she wants, nothing will happen. I've heard too many horror stories of the victims themselves getting charged with fraternizing or drinking, rape records and rape kits getting "lost", victims being questioned about what they were wearing. What about that one girl who was locked in a shed after reporting a rape? The guys will all back each other up before standing up for a woman.

  • @gryphon50c Not so. In my experience, most sexual assaults that I have prosecuted were not officially reported by the victim at all. The common scenario is that victim tells a friend who tells the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, a First Sergeant, or someone else. At that point, the offender's commander is notified and an investigation is automatic. Next thing I know, I'm in court trying to put the guy in jail. It seems to work reasonably well.

  • @thaimp Oh, so there's no problem then? Because it seems to be pretty well known by now that large numbers of women are getting raped and the perpetrators are getting away with it. I guess they need to can this whole documentary then. There's no problem here, folks! An army official has said so!

  • @gryphon50c Not saying that there is no problem... I'm just pointing out a fact I have found curious - that the vast majority of sex assaults I have tried were in cases where the victim was ADAMANTLY opposed to proceeding with the prosecution. We pressed forward anyway, and forced the victim to testify despite her objections. I've just not seen any reluctance to prosecute. Again, that's doesn't mean there is no problem. The fact that I still have a job prosecuting means there is a problem.

  • @yamit465 Hello! You think killing the guy will make the military believe he raped her? They'd just execute her. Revenge isn't want these victims are looking for.

  • I'm afraid that the only way it will end in the U$ military is for women to refuse to serve. Since it is a job source, that will be very difficult, but it appears to be the only solution. We had six family members in the AF & Navy with a combined total of over 175 years on active duty and none of us raped or abused female service members. But that obviously was in a different era – those days are history. My advice is for women to STAY OUT OF THE U$ MILITARY.

  • @hmspina You do realize that this is one of the reasons why women in the military are raped? Men can't handle women in positions of power and want them to resign from service. I'm disgusted that you think that women should be punished because of actions that are being committed by men.

  • @hmspina It should not be up to the victims to fix the problem caused by others.

  • I cried because this is a reality. The Courts tell criminals they have a choice either Jail or the Military... Then they come and rape other soldiers. It's madness and a nightmare. Make no mistake women and men are in a war and it's not on foreign soil. The cover up is so huge it would make your jaw drop how they protect a person with vested rank. Sometimes it comes from higher up. I'm glad the facts are coming out. I will watch this and cringe because it happen to me.

  • how ironic is it that the directors name is Kiby Dick. lulz

  • fuckin animals :X u're an animal if u use your physical dominance over a women !!! but anyway.. the russian army is 100 times more powerfull then the US

  • @bemjbful Um... how about guys don't rape? We shouldn't have to take extra precautions because guys are assholes. Yes, self-defense is useful, but we wouldn't need to be afraid or defend ourselves if men didn't assault and rape us. Tell men to be men and not rape women; don't tell women it's their job to make sure it doesn't happen. -_-

  • @JustALilInsane94 They are raping men too. It is not a gender war, it is a war against criminals and those that cover them because they maybe too involved in. It is about CONTROL and POWER when the Military should hold Discipline and Honor Higher. I want these shameful basterds OUT of OUR Services

  • @JustALilInsane94 ...and in JAILS getting raped back and executed by more Powerful Criminals who don't take lightly Child and Women rapists among them Hardcore company. See how they like it being not the strongest up theirs and keep it quiet or else

  • @bemjbful If you would know how it feels to be raped you'd probably be saying something else. I'm just going to think that you're an ignorant little fucker.

  • this is exactly why i do not enlist

  • As a hardline libertarian with zero tolerance for human rights violations, my heart goes out to the women who have been wronged in this manner.

They are victims of an appalling injustice, perpetrated upon them by people who should know better.

After all, these women are your comrades in arms. They might save your life one day. And this is how you treat them?

What the hell is wrong with you?

  • These are our sisters, wives, and daughters being raped, by ostensible "heroes" defending our nation.

There is a lesson here. Turning a blind eye to our government's abuses against "them" abroad, invariably leads to identical abuses against "us" at home.

Don't applaud Jack Bauer's torture of "ragheads."

Do so and it will only be a matter of time before the real life Jack Bauers are torturing us under the aegis of the NDAA.

  • If there is so much rapes within the american army, imagine how many they've raped in every war they made to the local population...

  • @tanfin2010 as a victim in a different setting I can relate and there is something to be said about the fact that you were assaulted by two grown men. Thank you for your service and strength. And to the nimwit, no one can ever prepare themselves for something as horrendous as being raped wether or not they have received extensive training. Show some respect for this soldier for fighting for your freedom that you abuse by living as the ignorant jerk you are.

  • I see the misogynist pricks have fallen out and wandered over to troll YouTube. RINJ dot org is accustomed to that. The problem in the military is the same problem anywhere. People commit crimes because they can. When leadership doesn't commit or encourage crime like robbery; murder; child abuse; arson; and rape for some examples, there is a lowered incidence of crimes. But the military is misogynistic and it does encourage a rape climate. Hence rape is a common crime in the U.S. military.

  • Fight back????? I am one of the victims in this film and I was held down and choked until I passed out by two men. So dont tell us that we can just fight back! Ready for anything??? I was trained and ready to fight enemies with a weapon. Gee, I'm sorry but we werent trained to fight off men sexually assaulting us. Thats not what we signed up for. You are so ignorant.

  • @tanfin2010 You kept your cool. Kudos. I am not going to. I have had a bad day but I see some remarks on this page that can't go unchecked. I admire your guts for speaking out. Where I have been you fight with a knife because you can't bring around even a sidearm fast enough. I get it. You can't roll over on your cot and shoot somebody in the head with an assault rifle when they are on top of you grabbing your throat. A knife under the pillow. And be lucky like me.I won't tell you the rest.

  • @tanfin2010 we support you, and appreciate you speaking up. People will always try to protect perpetrators, and ask victims why we didn't "fight back" - the question is why do they rape? That simple.

  • Comment removed

  • @tanfin2010 You are very brave for telling the truth about what happened and standing up for yourself. Good luck to you!

  • @tanfin2010 I am so sorry you were attacked. Can I ask whether your attacker was prosecuted?

  • @tanfin2010 I am sorry the cowards did that to you! Justice and karma will come in the end!

  • @tanfin2010 As a military veteran who's been stationed at the Marine Barracks, and after watching the Link TV interview, (a notoriously anti military channel) I can say with great confidence and absolute certainty that the information (as presented on Link) was absolutly bogus. No doubt sexual assault does happen and I'm not discrediting your story. But the sole purpose of this movie is to slander the military and you know it. Every person involved is a leftist who has a beef with the military.

  • @123raykill Are you flippin' kidding me? Tell me genius, how does one fight back when the men were given ammunition while the women were handed empty weapons. How do you think you could fight back with no ammunition. Grow up moron and get a life. And with all your genius how many tours did you serve?

  • @123raykill You are an anomaly--a *stupid* psychopath. That is a significant anomily but that fact you proved it in so few words is the real quirk. So you see raping your fellow citizen as a contest of might, pinkie-dick? Do you have any idea what the inmates do to stupid fucks like you in prison? Mark my words you are headed in your life for some long spells in segregation prison units.

  • @123raykill Nice going, dumbass.

  • some guys joke about rape and don't make a big deal but imagine if they got raped in the but by a huge black guy :/

  • @JackkTheDON Why is your joke any different? But there's a certain reality in what you write. Who rapes? People who seek instant power & gratification; people who think it's funny or cool. At least 1-in4 men rape, according to statistics. So look around at the posts. Some of those people are going to spend time in jail together before they are sentenced and then go to prison to serve their time. At any point along that path your scenario is real. iight? Get locked up=get raped.

  • The guy who made the film has "Dick" in his name, coincidence?

  • Breaks my heart.

  • Most soldiers around the world rapes women. Long history of men raping women. Even the Japs does it better. Brutal and horrid. Does lacking in sex makes men turn into monsters?

  • i used to think that soldiers were brave and nice people who risks their lives to fight for US but really they're also raping women too. imagine how many little kids they've let down if the children who look up to them knew this? unbelievable how cruel some people can be in this world -_-

  • @EpicRainbownizedStar Not much is what you thought it was. When the men turn on their women and children you are witnessing the decline of a society; a falling empire. Study history. You'll get it. Can you make a difference and turn things around? How many women were spared indignities & given equal rights in Afghanistan by its invasion? None. What benefits accrued to you from invading the past five countries? Any? How many more guns do you need? Bombs? Soldiers? Rapes?

  • And most people think its a bad idea to let gays serve openly in the military... We gotta worry about the straight men raping others.

  • One thing you shouldn't get out of this is that most military men are rapists. As it said, most are repeat offenders.

  • Thumbs DOWN if this made you cry

  • @scalpel

Surprise sex? Oohhh ok now I get it! Well I'm gonna surprise you with a dil-o up your A-s-s

SURPRISE!!! you should feel privileged =/

  • Oh wow....it's really terrible that people defending their country, families, and fellow soldiers are subjected to such harsh conditions and then told to keep it silent. I never knew....=/

  • woww...... i never knew

  • is this film out? and if so where could i watch it

  • bout time this has been brought to the front

  • I am planning on joining the military- i will def. be watching this movie..

  • a tsunami is coming the dod. expect us.

  • whats the point of fighting an enemy that is just as rotten as you are?

  • @whycuds Semper Fi, ha. Always loyal to my male colleagues, but depending on how few female colleagues I have, it may or may not be Ok to rape them.

Gender imbalance is not the problem, rape is the problem.

  • @bboybaroo Gender imbalance is definitely the problem. Until the US military forces increase the amount of women serving to a minimum of 25% these tortures will continue. This was testified to by the Air Force in the Senate Sub-Committee Hearings in 1991.

  • @chase1elk Wrong!. By your logic if there are ten men in the room and one woman they get to rape her. No the problem is rape. It's a crime. Rape is a crime that officers make jokes about and laugh at. Rape is a crime that officers and politicians cover up. Rape is a crime that many men unwittingly encourage their sons to commit. The United States has a burgeoning rape culture and that is why rape is the number one fastest growing crime. It's easy to solve. Don't Rape. It's No Joke

  • @whycuds Ah, so finding a way to stop rape is too HAAARD for you to think about, so we'll throw out some other women as some kind of sacrifice to protect other women. And maybe some of us should just surrender our wallets on the street to thugs to make sure others aren't robbed? I'm sure you'll volunteer for that, right? Brilliant problem solver you are.

  • @whycuds Funny, legal brothels for military use only have existed in countries all over the world since the early twentieth century. And the women in those brothels? Kidnapped from there homes and raped by servicemen up to 40 times in a day. Seems like the issue was well-resolved.

  • @joolte could you be more ignorant?

  • @joolte *don't

  • @luluellz yeah whatever, english is not my first language and im sure you understood what i said. u mad?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm surprised there is nothing in here about Rape base Okinawa. How some of the military men conduct themselves is disgusting. General Washington would have had them executed.

  • I need to make one thing clear: I do not mean to belittle this movie or subject matter in any way.

But I was serving the Air Force in Japan when a US Marine was falsely accused of assaulting a young girl in the Phillipines. So the person in charge of all military forces in the whole north east Pacific decided every person serving needed to be lectured on this subject twice. Both times the speaker straight up admitted she would say anything that would affect less than 1% of us.

  • She also said that if a consenting man and woman hook up after a couple of drinks and shes wakes up the next morning, rolls over, and thinks to herself, "Ugh." She can claim she was assaulted and the man can do nothing about it.

  • @AFLoneWolf what the HELL does this have to do with the movie. You have an anecdote of one woman being stupid. And in your mind that somehow ties in with an entire epidemic of rape. I don't know what your point is here, and honestly I don't think you know either. And adding the whole "I like totally don't mean to belilttle, BUT...." disclaimer doesn't dig you out of your B.S.

  • I was interviewed for this film and I highly recommend it. I especially recommend it to all females contemplating joining the U.S. Military Forces. We are now required to call RAPE- MST which stands for military sexual trauma and they don't want us to say that out loud. You can totally believe this film. This is 1 of our military's worst dirty little secrets. I am thankful to this filming endeavor. The truth is told. A Desert Storm Veteran

Sorry I posted this on my son's account accidentally.

  • @StarbuckVet and both are top comments.

  • @StarbuckVet Sad that you gave your mom your account information.

  • @StarbuckVet Rape culture in the USA is either fed by the military or feeds into the military It's prolific in any case. Rape is the fastest growing crime in the world. Something never changed in the value assigned to women and children. With overpopulation, women and children now have less value. Not really needed in some places, raping women and molestation of kids are on the rise. What needs changing? The amount of effort. The amount of dialogue. The level of sophistication.

  • @StarbuckVet I love that you use Starbuck in your username!

  • I was interviewed for this film and I highly recommend it. I especially recommend it to all females contemplating joining the U. S. Military Forces. We are now required to call RAPE ... I am thankful to this filming endeavor so the truth can finally get out! A Desert Storm Veteran

  • @chase1elk thank you for speaking up!

  • bee=been

  • Finally the US civilian population will understand a problem in the military that has bee deliberately hidden.
