First we see the one side of the video. The suspect should have signed the ticket, that is a promise to appear in court. Not saying you are guilty. The suspect did ignore the officers request and walked away. If it wasn't for the threats and BS from people not in law enforcement, there would have been no settlement. You can sways pled your case in court. Take pictures and go to court of the signs. Think before you act

The officer could have warned him but that could have set off a pursuit, just as allowing him to walk away could have. The guy also could have rammed the officer or ran him over. Or he could have had a gun in the car. The guy was arguing, the officer had no time to know if he was mentally ill or if he had a weapon. I have extremely mixed emotions about this video. I have been a victim of harassment and bullying by police officers in Exeter, CA during a divorce situation. I have also been pulled over for no apparent reason whatsoever. That said, police officers are humans and they can't change that no matter what. Some are good, some are bad and that's that. Ultimately he should have signed the ticket and then argue it later.

On top of sweeping reform, a single piece of legislation should be there that includes the provisions for mandatory sentencing guidelines for any officer that breaks the law. No more of this reducing felony charges in a plea deal AND if found guilty of anything misdemeanor or greater, they loose their ability to ever work in a law enforcement capacity ever again. Call it the Violation of the Public Trust Law.

So many people forget that a taser gun was introduced as an alternative to a real gun in situations that would otherwise require the deployment of lethal force. These days, the police got a habit to tase people for passive resistance.
In the old days when a policeman only had a gun or a baton, he would have to use his communication skills to try and discharge the situation in a peaceful manner if the suspect did not pose any threat. These days, however, why try to talk if you've got a taser?

The officer completely overreacted. If he had explained that he was going to arrest the guy if he didnt sign, I am quite sure the man would have signed. The officer escalated the situation. If you watch the whole video he admits to the other officer that he didnt like the guy because he was arguing that he wasnt speeding. The officer should have been fired.

First we see the one side of the video. The suspect should have signed the ticket, that is a promise to appear in court. Not saying you are guilty. The suspect did ignore the officers request and walked away. If it wasn't for the threats and BS from people not in law enforcement, there would have been no settlement. The officer could have warned him but that could have set off a pursuit, just as allowing him to walk away could have. The guy also could have rammed the officer or ran him over. Or he could have had a gun in the car. The guy was arguing, the officer had no time to know if he was mentally ill or if he had a weapon. I have extremely mixed emotions about this video. I have been a victim of harassment and bullying by police officers in Exeter, CA during a divorce situation. I have also been pulled over for no apparent reason whatsoever. That said, police officers are humans and they can't change that no matter what. Some are good, some are bad and that's that. Ultimately he should have signed the ticket and then argue it later.

On top of sweeping reform, a single piece of legislation should be there that includes the provisions for mandatory sentencing guidelines for any officer that breaks the law. No more of this reducing felony charges in a plea deal AND if found guilty of anything misdemeanor or greater, they loose their ability to ever work in a law enforcement capacity ever again. So many people forget that a taser gun was introduced as an alternative to a real gun in situations that would otherwise require the deployment of lethal force. These days, the police got a habit to tase people for passive resistance.
In the old days when a policeman only had a gun or a baton, he would have to use his communication skills to try and discharge the situation in a peaceful manner if the suspect did not pose any threat. These days, however, why try to talk if you've got a taser?

if he just explained that they guy would be arrested for not signing and laid out what the law says in the situation, they guy would have had the necessary info to make a decision. instead, he just tells him to get out and pulls a taser on him. the guy thought it was a gun, further confusing the situation. it isn't obvious that tasers are tasers (SF shooting)

The officer completely overreacted. If he had explained that he was going to arrest the guy if he didnt sign, I am quite sure the man would have signed. The officer escalated the situation. If you watch the whole video he admits to the other officer that he didnt like the guy because he was arguing that he wasnt speeding. The officer should have been fired.

The cop was right legally, but the law is the problem. Speed traps exist all over America to excuse literal highway robbery.
