  • I'll admit, I came in looking for the Gary Moore tune. But I'm glad I landed here by mistake! Nice tune.

  • @ArneFufkin Thanks very much, and I'm glad you liked it. I figure the dislikes I get are people who were dissapointed it wasn't Gary. It was purely unintentional, but it got my song a lot of hits, and also led me to Gary's song and music and I'll always be grateful since Gary was such an accomplished artist. A big shame about his passing.

  • a great rolling ballad - thanks :) Jeff

  • @JeffreySchmidtMusic Thanks very much, I appreciate that and checked out your channel. Great music on there and look forward to more.

  • A gorgeous song and performance. I'm not certain there's a more useful reason for YouTube to exist. Awesome through and through. Thank you, John.

  • a beautiful tune... great song and singing... love this one..

  • @shandy3791 Thank you, I appreciate that.

  • I loved this song the first time I heard it and still love it, John. I can't believe I have not commented on it yet. Maybe it hit me so hard by bringing up my own memories that I did not feel fit to write anything -- and later on I assumed I did comment. Anyway, here I am stating the obvious: this is one beautiful piece of songwriting and production. I still have a lump in my throat as I am writing this.

Better later than never -- thank you for this song, John.

  • @onewomanandsomesongs Thanks Janet, I owe it all to Gary Moore since most of the hits were directed to this from his video, but folks stuck around long enough to check it out and most of them liked it. Thanks for stoppin' back for another listen and I hope ya have a great weekend!

Thanks very much, Joe! I appreciate that very much.

  • Awesome song John! I play but am not quite the picker you are. I can relate to your song. Mom sold my home place in 2000 after dad died in 94. to big of a house for her by herself. She lives close by and has a smaller house she says is wamer. It still feels weird someone else living where I lived from 2 months to 20 yrs old. My dad used to play fiddle in local blue grass/country rock bands back in the 60s an 70s. il send you a website in a private mess. and a sub, and thanks it was beautiful.

  • @1966MRspock Thanks very much! Glad you liked the song and that you could relate, even if it is kind of a sad experience. We have been lucky we can look back on the good times we had though. Take care, and thanks again!

  • john im glad i found your channel, your playing and singing is awesome and your songwriting speaks for itself...fantastic...5*****...

  • Thanks very much, and thanks for subbin' too!

  • very nice song, John, well done! I think most people relate to what you convey with this song.....and by that I mean that this is just what a great song does. The nostalgia of warm family moments and the introspective observations that time flies by and that you turn around and realize that time cancels it all in a physical sense but the memories, though fleeting, are always there....

  • Thanks very much! I appreciate that and I'm glad you enjoyed the song and video. I was hoping that most could relate to it in some way. Either by leaving a house of their own or the one they grew up in. Thanks again!

  • Thanks so much! Appreciate that your Chapin covers are great! I got Harry's autograph on the back of a ticket stub from in '79. My most cherished possesion.

  • John, I saw a comment by CEFDAD about this song and immediately had to see it. This song is absolutely beautiful. I have to agree that this is the most well crafted original piece I have heard on YouTube. This song in incredible and you have a very wonderful gift. I can't wait to hear more original work from you. Steve

  • Thanks so much for that! It was an interesting project that almost never happened. Originally I used another song that wasn't mine, and got called on it. So, I wrote this one and got new video.

  • Wow, John, almost 35,000 views -that's awesome! It's like you've played a stadium show without even having to leave the house. Kudos to you!

  • Thanks so much! I just lucked out and happened to title the song that is the same title of another popular song. It's nice that people stick around to watch it though.

  • wow, that was fantastic...

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that and love your channel!

  • Beautiful, John. Can you write me a song, John? I lost my husband last year. He was leather....I was (not quite) lace. He was red neck...I'm up to my neck in sadness and memories. He was truly the "wind beneath my wings". I just wish I had known it before I lost him. I have a 17 yr old grandson I wish you'd listen to and comment. He's Chris Taylor, singing Blues Man, at Wagon House Opry. A rare talent who can sing anything.

I'll be coming back here often.

  • I'm glad you liked the song and I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I've got a few projects going right now and things are kind of busy but I can keep your song in mind when I get a chance. I'll try and get back in touch with you, or just leave me a reminder on my channel either by message or comment. I also have my e-mail on the channel info.

I'll check out Chris's music real soon!

  • Thanks, John.

I appreciate it. My grandson wrote "KEEP ON PUSHING" for my husband, a year before he died. My husband was really the only Dad he ever knew. Chris is also lead sing/songwriter for Highway 80. They're on MySpace/Highway80rocks. They are a contemporary Christian Band. I know all about those 'empty rooms' but right now, they're all in my heart. Tke care, and God Bless. Wylene Taylor

  • This is so touching, John - a straight, gentle shot to the heart. It reminds me so much of the day I went back to say goodbye to the house I grew up in after it was sold...walking through those empty rooms it was almost like you could hear the echoes of all those memories. I love this, it is a gift for all of us...thank you so much for sharing it.

  • Thanks so much! ALways happy to hear when someone can relate to this song. I almost never wrote this one cause at first I just used a song called "This Old House," written by Schuler, Knobloch and Bickhardt. One of them wrote me an e-mail and he wasn't happy I used his song. I pulled the video and thought, well I guess I'll write one myself and this is what I came up with. It's been popular but only because of the other song called empty rooms I never knew about. But people still watch it though

  • Beautifully done John. The theme and the pictures and your song. I often think of the "Wizard of OZ". It was a fairy tale adventure but in the end it was simply a movie about yearning for your home and peope you love (and love you). You realy captured what is special in life. Keep on singing about those things. We will keep listening. All the best

    Bill

  • Thanks so much, BIll! I appreciate that a lot and glad to hear someone with your songwriting talents give this one such positive feedback. This was one of my favorite projects and songs and it makes my day to get comments like yours.

  • My pleasure John. Thanks again. I am happy that this community of musicans/poets and artists exists out here. It has enabled people to hear many fine artists such as yourself who have a lot of important things to say through their music. - Bill

  • This is a nice composition, Nice job!

  • Thank you, I appreciate that!

  • Dang, dude......that was excellent!

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that!

  • Hllo everybody..im from southgermany and this is one song that makes me ry *sorry*

I think about the appartment that i ha with my girlfriend and the da we must leave th e appartement the song was plaing, and im itting no at the breakfast on sunday morning. But its an very emotional song im a sensitive person,i can sometimes feel what was happend in houses and appaertements long tmes ago.Its smtime wounderfull but sometimes scary. The "Atmophere and Aura" of these Rooms .Song 5 Stars. *****

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate the five star rating. I feel the same way myself sometimes when I'm in an old house, and kind of get a certain feel like there is still some sort of life hanging around.

  • Great song and video John! Damned if we all can't relate to this on so many levels. Lots of my own memories came flying back as I listened.

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that! I'm always happy to hear when others can relate to the song.

  • OMG! We had a Dodge Dart and a '66 Mustang! This is the third time I've watched and am noticing all sorts of stuff. Your record player! Well, the next family will hopefully build good memories in this house. Thanks for sharing such a personal video, John.

  • Thanks Robin! All ten of us kids learned to drive in that Dodge Dart! That car took quite a beating! I'm glad you liked the song and can relate. Appreciate the kind words and the stars too. I got a Springsteen song I've been working on, and hope to post some day soon.

  • 5***** (5 is all it'll allow me to rate). What a picture you paint in one lil song, John! I didn't have to watch the vid, just listened first and then went back and watched vid. I think most people will identify with these words. Thanks for such a beaut.

  • Bittersweet :)

  • Thank you.

  • fantastic song and great video...people like you give me the motive to learn guitar and write music

  • That was so good. Great lyrics and guitar. I loved the video and pictures of the past. Nice work.

  • This video is just wonderful. :) I'm a baby boomer, so your song made me connect with my own past......loved your family scenes....time goes by fast, doesn't it. And it leaves empty rooms.

Great lyrics, vocals and playin'. :)

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that a lot, and am glad you could relate to it. It still makes me a little sad to watch it, but it was my favorite project.

  • NIcely done. A moving piece.

  • Thanks much! I appeciate that!

  • Wow, John. This is wonderful. Moving. Thank you for putting it up!

    Lee
