  • Stalin issued an order: each retreating soviet solder must be punished - killed and all his relatives must be moved to siberia camps. And behind soldiers were NKVD troops with machine guns pointing not to Germans of course. There were almost no trained officers and generals in red army and often no guns especially at the beginning of war. In Kiev Germans surrounded and captured about 600 000 soviet soldiers. About 1.5 million of russins took german side and fought against Stalin.

  • @123456alechan

First: read about fencing teams, their purpose, structure and tasks before talking bullshit. This teams were recruited by most experiencied soldiers, but not fucking NKVD troops. 2: Not 1.5 mln, but 600 000

  • @123456alechan

You wrote lie. For example, behind Russian soldiers didn't stand NKVD. Behind Russian soldiers stood same soldiers of Red Army. It named "Zagradotryad". They were in rear of Red Army and did different work. And so on.

  • I'm Russian. In this film I see my great country with tears in my eyes. I see truth about my country which fall twenty years ago.

  • Russia - the jail of nations ... shame on the americans for praising this empire as a happy go happy union of diverse nations.

  • 2:20 Not N.Eastern Russia, but Livonia, bordering what is N.Western Russia.

Not Teutonic Order, but Brothers of the Sword.

  • The main reason of the Americans to join the war were the depts of Britain, which would not be paid back if Britain would have lost the war. It were the "banksters" who wanted the war. And what the banksters want in the USA is done. As yesterday so today.

  • western bastards!

  • Who did the worst? Hitler Killed Jews, Russia killed minorities, the US used Nazis, spread dangerous drugs around, and abused minorities. Idk.

  • stupid germans! they never learned from history! NEVSKY was RIGHT!

  • These idiots, making propaganda for their future enemy...stupidity of America!

  • is even camera invented in the year 1242? lol

  • "the russians built themselves a bunker"

AKA invaded and annexed those territories

not pro-nazi, but the ussr wasn't much worse than nazi germany if you exclude the holocaust

  • What a load of propaganda! The Red Army was every bit as bad as the SS and terrorized their own people in addition to the Poles and the Germans. The Red Army committed crimes against humanity and crimes against peace. Everyone forgets that Russia invaded eastern Poland at the beginning of the war as well as Finland. All of the allies should have been tried for war crimes (as well as the Axis powers)! Fuck all of them.

  • @christo930

Of course, you actually know who is good and who is bad

I wondering why some people so hate russians?

  • @christo930 and yet without them, the war would probably been lost. america didn't save the world brah, as we all love to believe...the soviets did

  • @christo930 Stalin also annexed Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, parts of Bessarabia and northern Bukovina :-)

  • @christo930 yea but they wasent

  • @christo930

    Brainwashed

  • @christo930

And everyone forgets about Munich 1938, partition of Chekhoslovakia, betrayal of Poland, efforts to send Hitler to the East, instead of stopping rise of his power, rejection of all proposals to create allience against Germany, which USSR offered in 1938 etc....

  • RUSSIANS SHOWED THEIR PATRIOTISM TO THEIR ANCESTORS AND NATION BY DEFENDING IT FROM THE EARLY INVADERS UP TO THE HITLER'S INVASION

  • Ce good old JOE was a nice fellow!!!! Stalin destroyed the nazis.

  • how long was the wwII? and how long was the cold war?good uncle josef! a monster and enemy of the western civilisation!

  • @Horstlohner

Technically WW2 hasn't yet ended as Russian and Japan have never signed a treaty and still have disputed territory.

  • @PoathJunction bullcrap.

There is no "technical" mumbo jumbo.

Other countries have "disputed territory" too but you don't see them being in a state of war.

  • @shevegen

Russia formerly declared war on Japan on 8 August 1945, and invaded Japanese-ruled Manchuria on 9 August 1945. There had been a number of border clashes between Japan and Russia in the late 1930's which has lead to the Soviet–Japanese Neutrality Pact in 1941. Once Germany was out of the war the Russians were able to resume full strength military action against Japan, hence the breaking of the treaty and a formal declaration of war being issued.

  • @PoathJunction Well, not quite. Japan surrendered unconditionally to Russia, along with the other allies: Britain, USA, Australia, The Phillipines and China. But you're right - there are disputed territories like the Kurilles (not sure of the spelling) There are no real disputes between them any more, and as far as WWII is concerned, It's over.

  • @glutinousmaximus

Japan's surrender was accepted in 1945 (they'd offered conditional surrenders in the weeks before that were not accepted) however a formal treaty to end the war with America and 48 other allies did not occur until 1952. Russia did not sign that treaty and in 1956 a pact between Japan and Russia was created with the intent to create a formal treaty to end their war, to date no formal treaty exists between the two nations, legally they are still at war.

  • @PoathJunction Not really. The lack of a formal treaty means very little. You say they are 'legally' still at war? By whose legal system? Let's face it, the unconditional surrender was the end for the Japanese. Is there anyone can dispute that? I think not. In any case, the original USSR no longer exists and therefore no such treaty could now exist.

  • @glutinousmaximus

Go read the surrender document and then you'll start to understand the importance and power of a formal treaty. then read the US supported treaty that took 6 years to create to understand how little the surrender meant (and then compare the conditional surrenders Japan offered with the terms of the final treaty and ask yourself why weren't they accepted by the US, over 100000 Japanese lives and countless allies could have been saved)

  • @PoathJunction You are quite right, of course about the Americans just not understanding the importance of the Emperor, The Japanese of the time were brought up to believe the Mikado was pretty much god. I understand the importance of formal treaties (even if people like Hitler never did) I have the surrender document, and most of the video of that event, so I am not uninformed as you seem to imply. I guess we can agree to disagree?

  • @glutinousmaximus

Perhaps *we* need a formal treaty ;-)

  • @PoathJunction Very well. I agree that we disagree!

  • @glutinousmaximus I absolutely agree about that. Even up to 2004. Did you look at that article on the link I posted? - It seems to encapsulate the current state of play. Cheers.

  • @glutinousmaximus

something missing in the link (spaces not the problem!), but a search for "japan treaty" on the rferl site finds a few recent relevant reports, one of which refers to the "spat" between the countries :-)

Oh, to confuse things more the terms of the Japan-Russia treaty in 1941 meant Russia could break the treaty but wasn't allowed to go to war with Japan until 5 years after the treaty was signed. ie 1946!

  • @PoathJunction Not sure what happened there. The link started with h t t p and w w w and then:

    .rferl.org/content/article/1058753.html

    Thanks for your patience.

  • @PoathJunction It occurs to me (belatedly!) That the title is probably best:

World War II -- 60 Years After: Russia And Japan Still Searching For Closure

    Hope this helps!

  • @glutinousmaximus

Declared wars, and their treaties, are recognised under International law. International law also caters for undeclared wars (remember Iraq invasion of Kuwiat?).

The Russian Federation retains control of the disputed territories. Japan & the Russian Federation have had talks to end the dispute however as they have not resolved the issues Japan is recognized under International to be at war with the Russian Federation.

  • @PoathJunction Thanks for your kind reply. There is a relevant here, which does indeed, indicate lack of closure:

    w w w.rferl.org/content/article/1058753.html

But I still say that the absence of a 'Peace Treaty' still does not indicate a current state of war between the two peoples. It may happen, of course, I can't see the Russians ever giving up part or all of the Kuriles - but let's hope not.

  • @glutinousmaximus

Ideas put forward by Japan & Russia in the late 90's to resolve the problems included concepts such as leasing some of territories back to the other nation.

While it might not seem like a big deal, the lack of treaty is causing major strains (political & economic) on both nations. Certain other nations (not mentioning any names...) would actually suffer economically if/when a treaty is signed.

  • @Horstlohner 6 years, 1939 - 1945. And as PoathJunction said, Russia and Japan still have disputes over territories.

  • @Horstlohner 1939-45

  • Too bad Germany didn't win the Battle of Russia. Instead the Allies trusted Stalin to do the right thing. And the "right thing" became war for the rest of the century.

  • sure, and i imagine that all of these U.S leaders quotations are a pack of lies, especially that of General Mac Arthur and The Department Of War, sure. Frank Capra even liked the U.A.R.S.R. and the entire U.S. even referred to Yosef Stalin as UNCLE JOE! there was no 'iron curtain' until churchill mentioned in a speech and the Indians,South Africans, and all other Brit Empire enslaved nations laughed at him and said that Brit had an 'iron curtain' over them!

  • this movie is pure awesome. It tells the uncovered truth about Russia's involvement in the the war and how Germany was defeated. It has two downsides though: the lack of the years 1944 and 1945 AND the fact that the percentage of the German Army who was fighting the USSR was never really mentioned. In fact it was 80% of the German Army vs USSR and 20% vs the rest(USA, Britain & friends)

  • @AnonymousMarcabius The USSR got very important war materials from the USA under lend-lease. 19% of Soviet military aircraft and 75% of Soviet trucks came from lend-lease. Also a large number of tanks and 10 million tons of beef. The Soviets also got 92% of their railroad euipment from lend-lease.

  • Za Rodinu!

  • The moldavians or basarabians are romanians invaded and occupied by russians.

  • This is a great film. And to all those idiots who say that Stalin was worse than Hitler, read about Generalplan Ost, Hitler's plan to exterminate the Slavic People just like the Jews. If Hitler had won this war, the Russian people would not exist today, so forget about this moral equivalency garbage.

  • yeah but the part of poland that the russians in 1940 or what ever originally belonged to the russians after 1917 revolution almost every country tried stealing land from russia. uk america and so on supported the white russian resistance againts the red russians. but its all too convenient that the king of britain george first cousin of tsar nickolas of russia refused to give nickolas sanctuary because he knew his family was in danger. fuk the west

  • This looks like one of those Frank Capra things from ww2. It's not typical because I doubt that Capra would have approved of Russia; however in the darkest days of ww2 "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Britain was on the ropes when Hitler was stupid enough to try invading Russia. USA was a half year from becoming a belligerent after Pearl Harbour. When Hitler declared war on USA Russia was a strange bedfellow, but stragecially natural allie. We ignored the Stalin purges of the thirties.

  • @dougbarrie1

It is part 5 of the Frank Capra series. All 7 parts are available on the youtube channel "poatharchives"

  • Very beautiful documentary. I wish this kind of cohomprension and collaboration between west and east would have lasted longer than 1945. Anyway, to me it is apparent that russians were the true winners of WW2. Without their victory, I very much doubt that U.S. and U.K. alone would have managed to succesfully liberate continental Europe by Hitler's hordes.

  • @MrQuin84 If all three said nations had not worked together, the Reich would still be flourishing today. The Russians alone didn't have any more of a chance than the western nations. Hate to say it but that's the truth of it. The western nations establishing the second front is what led to their downfall. I'll give credit where it's due though, the red army took on the heaviest burden of that part of the war.

  • Why am i not able to see after 55:48 :(

  • @nishant86

The problem is related to your browser internet cache - basically it got filled up before the movie completely downloaded. I find if you just change the playback from say 360p to 240p, wait a few seconds for it to resume playing, then switch back to 360p all goes well. (note: 360p used as an example, same thing works in all the available resolutions).

  • @PoathJunction Thanks I completely watched it and I loved it. :)

  • @clovenrick It was easy. As winston Churchill so aptly put it - If Hitler invaded hell, I would at least feel obliged to make a favorable reference to the devil before the House of Commons.

The U.S. got it right, too. Fuck Spam. If the Russians needed T-bone steak, we should have sent that too.

  • clovenrick, we (England) declared war on Germany cause Germany invaded Poland. At the time Hitler and Stalin had signed a non aggression pact. When Germany invaded Russia in 1941, the communists were howling for us to invade so as to split the German army. We did effectively let them fight it out till 44, except for kicking the Nazis out of North Africa, and invading Italy.

In any case, we were forced to fight Germany because they tried to invade us in 1940.

  • all i can say after watching this is Russia rocks man

  • Pure war time propoganda and historically inaccurate.

In the 1200s, it was the Golden Horde that swept over and subjugated Russia.

Soviet industry had been developed for peace? Not! The USSR had the world's largest army by far and was calling for the worldwide revolution of the proletariat.

  • this is solely propoganda to praise russia. it didnt mention any German military mistakes that cost them Moscow and all of russia.

  • @andrelebaron yer dumb dude..if not for russia youd b speakin german right now.yanks joined at the end.it is true it was helpful BUT fact is russia bore brunt of ww2

  • @MrHungJAK Wot about the Japanese Imperial army and navy? Why r they the forgotten enemy in all this? They werent a pushover u know and the US fought many battles in the Pacific 2 subdue the Japanese as well as fighting in the European conflict.

  • So, Do you know where to put your investments next centurys?

  • Who will get the next lesson ?

  • Yes Russia was incompetent in beginning but it won WW2, and put their flag on Reichstag.

  • the Russians were really incompetent. If left to their own Hitler would have won easy.

  • @andrelebaron

No more so than anyone else. If not for Russia, Hitler would have won easy.

  • @andrelebaron Read up on Operation Bagration or Operation Uranus.

  • Lol i thot the ussr was "united states of soviet russia" but i guess im wrong....thnx for the upload btw.

  • Does somebody know about one historical document called - The Dulles' plan? or the Dulles Doctrine is the central document of a conspiracy theory, according to which the CIA chief Allen Dulles had developed a plan for United States to destroy the Soviet Union during the Cold war by secretly corrupting the cultural heritage and moral values of the Soviet nation.

  • I'm not familiar with it, but I will tell you this: if such a thing did existed, you shouldn't be surprised. Back then during the Cold War, so much stuff happened in secret you'd be surprised as to how much stuff people tried to do in secret. There may well have been conspiracies and black ops missions you might never know existed before.

  • if any country was invaded like this nowadays the fighting would be 10 times worse than that

  • its rare to see a western made documentary praising Russia :)

  • @crumcon You can say what you want bit if it were not for the Russians standing their ground against overwhelming odds the Nazi's might be running the world today. I am TRUE BLUE AMERICAN AS THE COME but PRAISE THE RUSSIAN MEN WOMEN AND YES EVEN THE CHILDREN THAT KICKED NAZI ASS!!!!!!!

  • I seem to remember seeing this on the History Channel some time ago, and the narrator saying it was never shown in the United States because it was too "pro Russia".

  • was a great country. and Putin and Medvedev - two asshole. destroyed the country to the fullest. same thing with America. that America is that Russia - the same thing. the same problems as the current corruption, corruptible cops. that live in America as in Russia - the same thing.

  • @bloomlt74x

вообще то путин поднял страну после расспада сср, недумаю что многим это бы удалось.. а коррупция не только в америке и в россии процветает а во всём мире..

  • Interesting how the Russians went from honorable heroes (when they were needed) to dirty bastard commies (when they were a rival) in American eyes.

  • @dmacid lol yeah. but don't forget russians and americans where both dirty bastards in each others eyes. we can thank the power hungry for that though.

  • @dmacid It's a natural demonisation of the opposite side. It always happens it's a typical human quality. CCCP and USA turned eachother into their own dirty bastards, or if you will inglorious basterds.

  • @dmacid you put the point right staright!!! :)

  • @dmacid Stalin killed more people than Hitler and the Soviet military committed some of the worst war crimes in history. Much of that information was kept from the public to gain support for Russia during WWII but once the Cold War started people learned the truth about the USSR

  • @YoshiRider9000 Your words is nothing without proofs. You are too fat troll.

  • @YoshiRider9000 You're right,Communist = agony and deep poverty is the common, this film is pure propaganda.

  • @dmacid there is more to it, search for "operation unthinkable". americans, british, with whats left of germans were to invade russia before end of ww2 -.- so called allies.

  • What strikes me most when I watch these why we fight videos about Russia, is how deferential they are to us Russians when our fighting men hold the fate of civilization in our hands. This is in stark contrast to most new Western historiography about the war, which seeks to sweep the Russo-German war under the rug as if 85% of Hitlers armies were not engaged and destroyed there.

  • It's nothing but propaganda. To help Stalin, Roosevelt pressured Pope Pius XII and the American Bishops.

  • @carlistafilipino I think you are right.

  • Well, that was the last global war we will ever face. Now to to capture a territory you need money plunged in the government of the country you have a target on and ofcourse the media... Goebils would be proud, what his idea of propaganda had become.

  • The inclusion of the Moscow Arcebishop in the film was a trick to make the communists more palatable to the americam people. In those days Stalin was killing thousands of soviets citizens in the gulags...

  • @ebertlike Actually during the war, Stalin re-allowed religions and things like churches, mosques and synagogues to give the people hope. It is real, not propaganda.

  • Propaganda is written all over the narration of this series but I've been watching them the footage is gold. Never mind the narration as long as you're critical and after all the Axis was much worse or the greater evil.

  • It is difficult to comprehend the grand scale and determination of German aggression. I wander when this movie was made as it defenetly shows how close America and Russia were toghether despite their political differences, Railway on ice is astonishing footage. Very rare visual material never seen before. Some facts are mind shaping and changing. Brilliantly put toghether considering our modern ways of editing and directing documentaries.

  • @Mytallpalmtree

The series was produced during the period 1942 to 1945. New movies were added to the series as the war progressed. I guess we should be happy they didn't have to make part 8.

  • @Mytallpalmtree agree

  • why do i watch this stuff....

  • Sps
