Damn, this band has such a killer sound. With most of their songs, the individual parts (lyrics, beat, instrumentals, etc.) would probably just sound average on their own or in a song written by anyone else, but The Black Keys have such a great, old school funkiness to them. That's what makes their music distinctive, and what makes them so good, in my opinion.

"The look on the cake, it aint always the taste" This means that just because the outer surface looks good it doesnt mean in inside will taste good. He compares and says that his ex girl had a beautiful face but was sour underneath, perosonality wise. The second verse his describing how 'wicked' she was and how it put an effort into her but she didnt turn out what he thought she was.
