  • Sometimes it makes sense to EDIT too, in post production. Tip from the pros. The cameras are the subject, so keep it concisely that

  • @MetallicBill Tip from the videographer: This be MY youtube channel, and I'll do what I wish with it and the videos I make, thank ye very much. You can do the same on yours.

  • @SadieDammit I'm having my fun at your expense... You see edits made before the long, drawn out conversation off camera, which we could have lived without.... just saying!

  • @MetallicBill Expense? Meh. Didn't cost me a thing. What you're missing here is that I made these videos for my subscribers. They were curious about the cameras I was looking into. So they know the people I'm talking to on and off camera, and they happened to want to hear all of that, too. There are inside jokes and nuances that only they would understand as well. So as I said, my channel, my video......for my subscribers. You "could have lived without it? " Please DO.

  • oo and how do i use it with skype

  • @GhostHunter1986 With skype, just turn it on and select it in the Skype program as your camera

  • hiow did u get it on ur computer cause all i got was the camera. i'm using it on my pops windows xp machine and how do i transfer the video. can u tell me please??????

  • @GhostHunter1986 You need a firewire cable that goes from the camera to the computer.

  • i have no camera

  • I have this camera but I can't get my videos in high quality what program do you capture and edit your videos with?

  • @claytheman123456789 I use Ulead

  • i have this camera.

  • Hmmm I am buying it. Great camera. Thanks alot.

  • I Used Also Sony DCR-HC28... Take A Look At My Video.. But Only The Video Respond One..

  • i now have video's on my channel from using the camcorder, once again, i would like to say thank you. im suprised on how things can change in six months. i just looked back at the comments and saw how i was completely new to camcorders and film. now i know A LOT about camcorders and film. i even know about editing. i just got this new special effects software that allows me to add in light sabers, muzzle flashes, explosions, and other things into my vids. i hope one day to get into a carerr in..

  • either film or special effects.

  • Is there a delete button on the camera 7 days till my bday = 7 days until camera

  • thanks, just one question what do you think of this camera im going to be a blogger and im not sure what camera to do

    THANKYOU :)

  • This camera is fantastic. Been using it quite a while now. Let me know when you make your first vid :)

  • Purchased the Sony DCR-HC52 Camcorder on May 20, 2008, new, for around $250.00 at Walmart. After 149 minutes and 48 seconds, just under the 150 minute mark, or just under two and a half hours of recording time, I needed to clean the head and after that I needed to clean the head every time I wanted to record something. On July 10, 2008, the camcorder developed a loud noise, which recorded on the tape, the tape won't eject, can't record, and a part fell out, so my "review" of Sony...it's junk.

  • Wow can't believe there is such a difference between my HC28 and your HC52. Sorry to hear that. Mine is still working great. I wonder if you got one that had been returned by someone else- something to worry about at Walmart.

  • do you need an ilink cable to connect it to a computer or just the firewire?

  • Just the firewire :)

  • hey dude i really need help, i have the same camera but dont know how to upload videos, i have already made some but dont know how to upload them to the computer and then to youtube, can you message my channel back telling me how to upload them , do i need a chord? thanks message me back as soon as you can!

  • You'll need a firewire cable that plugs into your camera. I got mine at Best Buy :)

  • hi wat is firewire?

  • Think of it as being a really fast USB.

  • Firewire also called 1394 is a protocol used to connect computers to other devices. It works at 400 Mbps. It's used by Diskdrives, printers, and of course by digital camcorders. Usb 2.0 runs at 500 mbps.

  • Great review Sadie. I was thinking of picking up an inexpensive first camcorder and found your review... much appreciated. The Sony looks like a good buy for the money!

    Cheers,

  • Glad you found this helpful! Thanks for the kind words. Let me know what you think of the cam if you get it, ok? Would love to hear your opinion about it as well.

  • i got this and i need a tripod because u were right. every little shake and bump shows. good quality though!!

  • Hey congrats! I hope you like it :) Yes a tripod is handy but I've found that a monopod works in just about every situation, too. Handy to have.

  • Does the camera/software work well with Vista?

  • You download your own software, whatever video editing program you choose to use. I don't have Vista, but have used Windows Movie Maker (comes with all desktops I believe) and Ulead.

  • how come wen i import the sony dcr-hc28(what i have) um i have a 3 port firewire slot nothing works right.

  • I don't know. Maybe your port isn't connected properly?

  • say,how far can it see in low light?i need to know,im a ghost hunter, and im looking for a cheap, nice camera with night function.

  • Hmm, I've never tested it for distance in low light. It seemed pretty sensitive to me when I did try that function, though. Really lights things up.

  • how did you upload the videos off of the camera. i cannot get the vids off of the little dvd onto my computer. how did you do it?

  • Connect to the computer with a usb or firewire cable and then use windows movie maker to take the video off of the camera. It will be in the "import video" function.

  • oh well thnks. but i had the dvd105 and i didnt see any firewire or usb. so i bought the panasonic gs80

  • Ok hope you enjoy it :)

  • I FINALLY GOT THE SONY HANDYCAM HC 52! it is a very good camcorder and i would like to say 100 thankyou's to you. if you didnt post this video, i wouldnt of ever got it. the only thing i have to worry about now is firewire.....

  • Excellent! Congrats!

  • that was quite informative ..thanks!, and also Ministry is awesome 1.40

  • Oooh good call on the music! Most people don't pick up on that, let alone name it.

    Thanks for the looksee :)

  • Your vid still looks good after uploading. May I ask any tricks or settings/procedures that kept it looking good? Thanks, Rob

  • Well the quality of the picture is better just because it's a better camera than I was using (Canon) in the first place. I use Ulead Video Studio to edit my videos and I save them in "best quality wmv" format. I don't take YouTube's advice and use the mpeg format lol.

  • i just found out that the Sony HC52 uses firewire instead of usb 2.0. i may not have firewire, but thats not stopping me from buying it! i'll think of a way around this one.

  • We got a firewire port from Best Buy, too. I can't remember how much it was, but if we got it it had to have been affordable. Putting it in was easy- I remember THAT well.

  • so... this green thing when u use the cam in the dark came with her right? and... it's worth?

  • Yes and yes

  • I would definitely recommend this camcorder. Yes the audio is excellent and so is the picture. The image stabilization isn't quite as good as the Panasonic but it is as good as any of its other competition (Canon, which I've tried). It works perfectly fine for me :)

  • i am going to by this camcorder should i? can it get 52" with a good picture and audiodoes this camcorder have good zoom, picture and audio? is the eis electronic, image stablizer good?

  • Oh cool! My mistake, glad to hear it!

  • I have a pv-gs85 and it sucks in the dark, is this one better at night

  • Hmmm I really haven't used it much at night. Sorry I can't help ya there.

  • yay! i am very excited because i just found out that usb 2.0 still gives good quality on Youtube! now i just have one last question last (i promise this time), is the camera usable with tripods?

  • Awesome!!

Yep, fits all tripods, big and small :)

  • k. thank you. i'll ask one of the best buy guys about the difference.

  • Good luck! I am excited for you :)

  • nevermind about the whole firewire on my computer thing. know i just want to know if you know what the difference would look like in quality through usb 2.0 and FireWire. sorry about all of the questions after questions. im kind of new to this stuff.

  • No problem.

Again, I was just told there is a difference. I've never tested to see if there is one. You might want to ask the folks at Best Buy if there is one.

  • k. but does every computer have a firewire socket for the cord. i looked all around my computer for one and i couldnt find one. that is the main reason im getting the hc52.

  • All computers made within the last few years should. I had to buy one for mine because it is old. But it wasn't too expensive. Laptops don't have them.

  • im looking into it. the camera i am going to get is the hc52. this one has the same price and same video quality. the only difference is that this one uses a 2.0 usb connection and it has a closer zoom. i have a money plan set out for how i will buy this. thank you for the review! it was pretty good.

  • You're very welcome :) I'm told that the usb doesn't upload as well as a firewire. The quality might be compromised. You might want to look into this, see if that's a valid point before buying. And link me to your first vid after your purchase! I'm excited for you :)

  • omg...i just cant get how great this camera looks and sounds. especially on youtube.

  • Did you get the camera?

  • ok. thank you!

  • one more question. which camera do you think would be better off to buy.

the Sony HC28 or the Sony HC52. they are both the same price but some off the features are different. and whenever i look for any review of the Sony HC52, i cant find one. and is the Handycam HC28 compatable with Windows Vista?

  • Geesh, wish I could help you. I have no experience with the other models. I would imagine that any of them are compatible with vista, or there is something you can download to make them so.

  • how much money was the camera and where did you buy it from? it looks like a really good camera,

  • 279.99 at Best Buy.

  • there is no way your last name is dammit.....

  • No way your last name is town1.

  • your nuts

  • It's "you're" nuts. Minus five for misspelling your insult.

  • oh i just got this cam um i havent tried it out myself yet but im hopeing to get this quality

  • Hey congrats! I hope you like it. I've had nothing but good results with mine. Very resilient camera, too. Won't break the first time you bump it :)

  • should i get a macbook or that?

  • Not sure I understand the question. Are you buying a new computer?

  • i have a laptop, but i want a mac, so should i get a new macbook, and sell the laptop im using, or just blow my money on a camera?

  • Well this camera is 279 and right now on sale i saw for 209, compared to the lot more for a macbook. I don't like using imovie to edit compared to a lot of programs available for a pc.

  • could u plz tell me of what many pins i need on the cam for the firwire port plz?

  • I have no idea :(

  • o thnx i got it...

  • i just got this camera..and my quality is worse than this..wat did u use to get it on to the computer?

i used firewire and imovie HD

    please message back

  • I used firewire and Ulead Video Studio. I think it has to do with what format you save it in, maybe?

  • Hey, i got the same things.. I had to purchase PCI FireWire Card because my computer didn't have one. And when i got the packet it were a Ulead Studio 9 Program and a FireWire cable and the Card ofcourse ;D

  • Cool! I hope you like it. I think the interface is fantastic. You can choose storyboard or timeline. Makes things easier.

  • Yeah, it's Great!

  • Yup, just gotthe SONY myself. Very good camera.

  • Awesome! Congrats!

  • What kind of software do you use? My old Studio 9 won't work on Vista. I see there is a Studio 11 now.

  • Should have looked more carefully. You said Studio 10. v.9 blows away the Microsoft one.

As close to pro as you can get for $99 or so.

  • just wondering which is better in terms of audio quality , since that is the FAQ that never gets answered in reviews from websites. Also is very important along with image quality.

im thinking of getting a panasonic SDR H18/20

i think it may be kind of the same as this modal of panasonic.

  • You're absolutely right- nobody pays attention to that. So I must admit I can't answer your question, sorry :(

I do know to stay away from some of the Canon's because people have complained about tape noise (you can actually hear the tape motor running on the video).

  • true my friend has one...and they have no filter thread either so no good for lenses...i just bought this same camera sony dcr-hc28 good camera and it has the filter thread for my wide angle and fisheye lenses

  • which firewire cable are you using?

  • Just one I bought from Best Buy. I think they're all the same.

  • BTW: It is so funny how your voice is really nice and then you call "KIDDAMMIT!!!". Wow! I bet your kids never ignored YOU! (: You seem like a way cool mom.

  • LOL thanks! It's the only way to be heard through the headphones he's always wearing. Sure I break a few glasses now and then but *shrug*

  • Can you please tell me if you used windows movie maker to upload your video...and more important what size file did you choose for upload? I just got this camera and it is great except the nightshot is too 'spotlightish' and narrow ranged. My 10 yr old sony is way better on nightshot.

  • I use Ulead Video Studio 10. But if you use Windows Movie maker, you can save it on best quality and it will turn out just as well.

  • You can steady your hands by closing your throat a bit(like humming but with no sound but a whisper you will hear yourself). All Ninjas know this...handy on long range bow assasinations as well.

  • Ahhhh free advice from a ninja! Thank ye very kindly!

  • Hai!!!

  • Hai!

  • I have a 10 year old Sony handicam with night shot(I am a Ninja so I gotta have night shot!)that is WAY brighter and wider scope than this one. I am getting one of these though...small...touch screen...otherwise decent and maybe you will date me if I do???? Hee!

  • Hey it's a great sign that you have it and are still using it 10 years later- sounds like a quality product for sure. What do ninjas do on dates?

  • I am everywhere; early and late at the same time. That tingly feeling is ME! But...listened for I cannot be heard...looked for, I cannot be seen. Ninjas were known as invisible lovers long before we were known as invisible warriors. I see you better when I am not looking straight at you. When I appear to be across the room, it is MY breath on your face.

  • My favorite food: Ninja-roni My toothpaste: Ninjagate My car: dodge stealth My favorite t.v show: 'America's Got Ninjas!' My favorite time of day: Night(duh!) My favorite movies: 'Grapes of Ninja-Wrath' and 'Samurai Night Fever'. YOU????

  • LOL!

    Favorite food: crab legs

    Toothpaste: Rembrandt

    Car: Jeep

    Favorite tv show: UFC

    Favorite time of day: night

Favorite movie: One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest

  • Oh DO go on...

  • Did you have any problems with your computer recognizing the camcorder? The reason i ask is i have the same camcorder and i got my cable at best buy but my computer won't recognize it.

  • No, I didn't. Are you using a firewire?

  • Yes ma'am my computer will make that ding noise the 1st few times and that's it. After that nothing happens it will even quit dinging after 4-5 try's.

  • Sounds like the firewire cable or the actual firewire port (either the one on your computer or the one on the camera) is bad. You aren't using a Canon, are you?

  • No i'm using the sony handycam DCR-HC28 i've got a DYNEX firewire port and a geek squad cable and my computer is a dell dimension E521 with windows xp.

  • Ok what I would do is try your firewire on another computer. That will tell you if it's the cable or the port.

  • one more favor can you make a vid on ALL the features and usb etc. on the camera!

  • I think this will be my only Sony video, as I'm working on other things now. But it is simple enough that you could make a video about it after you get yours! Don't worry, it really is quite easy to figure.

  • im going to get probly for sure but if my dad wants to use it we'll get the dcr-hc48.you've been a BIG HELP THANKS!!!!!!

  • You're very welcome :)

  • what file format is the videos?

  • WMM

  • cool. i was doing research and a forum said that the sony dcr-hc48 was the only camera from the trio that you cam plug into the pc?i just wanted to make sure that it was dcr-hc28.

  • I'm pretty sure they all plug into the computer. Pretty much anything you buy these days will.

  • thrers camera stabillizers you can buy for like 20 bucks or you can make one for a little cheaper.well and if your in on place at one time your cam use a tripod

  • There aren't any stablizers you can buy that work when you are holding the cam. I have a tripod for when I'm not.

  • to make it less confusing, how did you get it on to the computer to edit it?

  • my mistake on the last comment were and how much was it?

  • I bought the cable from Best Buy. I think it was around twenty bucks.

  • did you ask a store employee or did you look were the cameras and tripods etc.?

  • I used a firewire cable, and Ulead Video Studio as an editor.

  • did it come with usb firewire to plug it in to the computer?im probably getting it for christmas if not that a jvc evenio that hase 30gb hard drive.

  • It might have come with a USB, but I don't think so. I can't remember. I use a firewire anyway, which you have to buy seperately.

  • as far as zoom capability is concerned it could under certain circumstances make you swoon innit sweets

  • I'm swooning already! Heehee.

  • Lol, the banana test. Wow, that one is much better.

  • What do you use, Ed?

  • A JVC Everio hard disk drive ( no tape or disk ) the picture on it is not good and it stinks in low light...but I love just plugging it in to the computer. I think Im gonna buy the new Sony hard disk one.

  • Yeah a hard disk would be great. When I win the lottery *cough*

  • Hey, mine was only $400...and the new Sony's start at like $600...the Hard Disk

  • This is probably one of the best test drive video I've seen. It helps me because this is what I wnat to get. Thanx

  • Hey thanks, Steve!

  • Clear, concise, informative review.

I've chosen a Panasonic for my amateur talking head videos. My short list of requirements was somewhat different. This camera (I don't have it yet) records to a memory stick, so it's utterly silent - important for poetry readings. It's reasonable in low light (2 lux). I'll have it on a tripod so image stabilization isn't a factor. And it can handle 16:9 as well as 4:3 formats, so it's ready for next-gen formats. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

  • Yaaaaaaaay! You're back! Missed ya!

I wish you the best with the Panasonic. Lots of good features on it for sure.

  • Hey, you have a really strong english accent in your german and your Mum didn't read her script because her text is different to the translation ;-)

Great video! I have a Panasonic NV-GS180 and like this one. Had a Sony Extremely-Old-2001 before lol.

  • Probably all of my accents have canceled out each other and I'm left with basic English lol. I've lived toooooo many places.

  • Do you like live on a farm?

  • No, I live in the desert.

  • Based on this video, the camera I ended up buying was a similar Sony... just got it two days ago! Now all I need is something called a firewire cable. Grrr. Thanks again for the info in this video!

  • Wonderful! I really hope you like it. Mine has been awesome. So you're one cable away from uploading video! WOo hoooooo! Congrats!

  • Did you ever try to zoom the panasonic from a distance. In the video you were right on top of the object you were zooming in on. I wonder if you had tried to zoom into a neighbors yard or something would it have been worthy of a star :)

  • I tried all sorts of things, really, but the point was to see if it could do what the Canon could do, which is why I was right on top of it. The Canon had no problem with that, and the Sony doesn't, either.

  • Thanks for the clip and review. Now I'm buying one tomorrow for sure. Recommend any certain cheap good media and tripod?

  • Windows Media player is a great starter program and it's free. I began with that and am now using Ulead Video Studio (which I love). As for tripods...hmm not really my forte. Mine works but I don't really know much about them.

  • That does some good zooming! I like this one better, again.... anything that keeps you posting! Good to see you :)

  • Aw thanks!

  • I have the canon zr600

and just bought a samsung sc-d363(whatever)...I figured out my problem is I don't know how to operate either

  • LOL Oh come now. I may not comment much but I DO watch and it seems you know just what you're doing.

  • I'm so sorry Sadie but I'm not all that knowledgeable about this yet but need to learn. I just wanted you to know I viewed - Yes Sadie I recently purchased the Honda XLP WTF model camcorder. It had at least four cords, one of which I think was the plug in, and a battery which must be re-charged at Chernobyl. The instruction booklet, on the other hand, seemed more difficult. My first video, however, may have turned out great, had I removed the lens cap. On and on.

  • LOL!!!

  • Hmm... lecker Meeretichsenf!!

  • ...schmeckt gut!

  • hi - i love watching your videos.......

unfortunately i do not have that much money for such a nice video camera

    at the moment :-(

my son ist 17 - just like yours, i think...

but he would rather die than be seen together with me....

teenagers..... although your son seems to be an exception :-)

i have a question: how come your mother speaks german ?

i hope i am not being too curious.

    have a nice day...

  • My mother is German. Ah teenage boys can be as force to reckon with huh. Believe me, he'd prefer to be with his friends, too. Thank you for your comment :)

  • Hey sadie i'm thinking about getting a cheap cheap cam.. whats the least expensive that youve run across thats not too too shitty?ps i'm exstatic that you are back up and running! miss you terribly.. i have ummm.. skype now..anywhere else i can talk to you i miss you miss you

  • The Sony was 279.99 at Best Buy. Wal Mart might have them cheaper but I wouldn't expect anything below 250.00. If you trust Ebay and the like, I have seen them in that price range on there, too. I miss you too! Add me on Skype, same name :)

  • Thank you...I'm getting a Sony!

  • You're very welcome :)

  • I would vote for the Sony..if we are voting here that is! ;) hehe

  • Thank you for voting!
