Regarding Light not needing a medium. Space is not empty or a nothing, it is a medium itself. Hence bending space, etc... So dont let that apparent difference fool you. Sound travels through matter which is "low frequency" whle light travels through space which is "ultra frequency".... oversimplification here, but to make the point..

For those of you that think sound is fundamentally different then light I highly suggest you check out a phenomenon known as sonoluminescence. I've seen a deomonstration by a respected applied physicist who point-blank stated that the phenomena light is just sound at a much greater frequency. Also, if you are having trouble thinking of sound as a particle then I suggest you check out Curtis Roads and his work with granular synthesis.

Sonoluminescence is when sound waves cause a liquid bubble to collapse due to high temperatures. Light is emitted from excited electrons (which happens from high temperatures). Sorry to burst your bubble.

Sound is perturbations in matter. Light is perturbations in electromagnetic field. They are very different and don't overlap much except they are both described by waves.

Yup, but the mediums are what we consider "matter" which is also energy in vibration. So is not the planets vibrating at specific frequencies? Including planets and other bodies. Sound can only appear where there is matter to vibrate, eg in the air, or the ground.
