  • I saw the full length documentary. It was nice. The translations were a bit off at times but overall I enjoyed it. Great job ! Can't wait to see more of your work.

  • @evofemale thks for your comments evofemale....I'm afraid that I no longer live in Vietnam, so no more Vietnamese stuff from me...we had lots of problems with the translations...if you have time to send me some notes on where it is wrong, I would really appreciate it :) too late to change it now but I would be interested to know where it is wrong...

  • WTF! I'm full Hmong, and I've never heard of LOVE MARKET!!..

  • @beautyfyme

I did some research, and the love market is not specifically a Hmong holiday. It's more like a get-together that is celebrated in North Vietnam's Ha Giang Province by the various ethnic groups there, including the Hmong. The holiday takes place in Khau Vai Village from March 26-27, and it's a popular time for young people to go to find future marriage partners. Since I'm running out of characters, just look up Khau Vai Love Market on Google for the complete description.

  • what i just realize from watching this clip is that their dialect sounds alot closer to hmong chinese....

  • if this happen at US it will surely become breeding ritual for them..

  • I got love for all my Hmong people worldwide. We deep as fuck from Southeast to the States. Let it be known we are Hmoob. Homeland China to Vietnam, Thailand and Laos represent.

  • where can i see the full length documentary?

  • What a beautiful culture. purest heart of the people.

  • Very interesting I'm excited about this video ^_^

  • jakesterzzzzz = isssuuueeessss!

I have seen this film and it's much better than Slumdog Billionaire.

  • Cheers dude - does that mean its 1000 times better than "Slumdog Millionaire"?

  • It actually a FESTIVAL and please don't misunderstood it to cheating and sex.

Like Keith said, you should have done some reseach about Hmong Love Market before you said anything that embarrassed yourself.

I was born in Vietnam so "Cho Tinh" means Love Market. It was used by Hmong Vietnamese. Hmong languages borrow words from countries that they settled into. Just like nampa is not hmong word for fish sauce. It came from Thai.

*** KEITH >>> Thanks :) and KEEP IT UP!!!! ***

  • azngurl521 thanks for clearing up! are you full hmong or half?

  • Hi Jackester, May I ask where do you live in the US? What do you understand about Khau Vai love market? My mom is Hmong Vietnam and she's from there.

  • keithwhu:

How do I get this video? Great work. Very interesting.

  • thks - i will post the whole film on the net when I have a chance to make a few changes to it.

  • Some of the word-for-word translations are way off...

  • lord, the english title, hmong love market, is way off. what an ignorant title. i guess he really is trying to be shocking in a desperate attempt to sell this video.

  • This is not the Hmong way...men or woman just don't give their significant other the freedom to go and sleep around or go to a "love market" they may not be hmong or their culture must have changed dramatically. Hmong are always strict about not sleeping around. Especially for the woman...men just don't give their woman freedom to bump into their ex's and drink with them...like that guy claimed.

  • Are you sure? Have you been to Khau Vai? Have you tried a simple google search for "Khau Vai Love Market"?

  • Yes, of course. I'm Hmong. I don't know about now, but like I said, it is not the Hmong way. They probably got theirselves screwed up in other people's sick culture. Yeah, Hmong culture honors marriage. The culture does not allow people to have sex out of marriage or sleep around when they're married. We're not even supposed to keep anything belonging to our ex boyfriends or girlfriends. It's probably because they live in Vietnam and their culture has blended with others.

  • Adaneth, you may be Hmong, but on the subject of the Khau Vai Love Market, you are quite simply wrong. You are also wrong to suggest that there is anything in my film which indicates that Hmong people "sleep around" - those are your words entirely.

If you want to discuss the Khau Vai Love Market - do some research first. If you want to discuss Hmong integration into the US, I'm not the person to do it with.

  • Okay fine..."meets up with their exes...to drink" there...we don't do that either! blah...!That's why I'm saying they've got their cultures blended.

  • well, the title of your youtube video seems to suggest something ridiculous. you are ignorant.

  • The Hmong people we spoke to in Khau Vai referred to this event as a "Cho Tinh" - which translates as "Love Market". It wasn't exclusively atteneded by Hmong people but the majority were Hmong.

If you have a problem with that, then I suggest you go to Khau Vai and take it up with the people there.

  • 'the majority were hmong'.. where's your statistics?

'cho tinh' is not hmong language. is this the literal or figurative translation? what's the hmong translation?

take it up with you because you're posting misleading and ignorant views.

  • For statistics, just look at the video clip - the majority of people you will see are Hmong. I was there - I saw mostly Hmong - but I didn't count them.

"Cho tinh" is Vietnamese for "Love Market" and it was used by all the Hmong we met who spoke Vietnamese to describe this event - and if its ok with them, then its ok with me. If you have a problem - I really don't care.

  • well, this is only 2:19 minutes of video, which may be biased. and users, including yourself, already recognize other ethnicity. more importantly, you admitted you have no hard data to substantiate your statement.

it's obvious you don't care. it shows in your translation. it shows in the title of this video. it shows in your attitude here as well.

do yourself a favor, don't make any more idiotic translations, interpretations, statements unless you know what you are really talking about.

  • What I don't care about is people like yourself who don't know what they are talking about and can only criticise the work of others.

Do yourself a favour and remove my video from your "favourites" list and don't bother watching anything else I make.

  • Hmong divorce was really uncommon before we came to the United States. And then when we came here, divorce rates skyrocked.

  • keith, where can i see the whole documentary? Or a website?

  • I hope to put the whole doc on the web soon - I'll post a link here when its done.

  • I noticed two different ethnic groups are shown in this video. The Hmong(Miao) and the Nung(Zhuang). I noticed the anti-phonetic singing from the guy to the girl with the red cloth around the head is not Hmong but Zhuang and the guy with the black coat is also Zhuang.

  • Yes xeemlauj ur right - the people singing at the end are nung - the village of Khau Vai is not actually a hmong village - but most of the people who come to the love market are hmong.

  • but im very happy for sharing...seeing hmong people happy is a very good thing =D

  • these people let them slef to became laos/vietnam peoples....

the ones in the mountain are the hmong people own did not want to become laos/vietnam ...

  • wow this is very good i never believe that there would be so many hmong i am very happy the hmong american are not alone and hmong laos...i myself am happy that there is still hmong out there..I grow up knowing two groups of hmong white and green but have never seen the others..this is happy and sad at the same time that wish we can all live together. peace two all hmong peps keep the pride going be proud of your people...

  • i would really love to see the hole thing...

  • As a Hmong descent myself, I find it striking and mysterious how I can understand the vietnamese hmong accent much more than I would of the chinese hmong.

  • oh yeah... these people have a vietnamese accent (mixed with chinese).

  • "As a Hmong descent myself, I find it striking and mysterious how I can understand the vietnamese hmong accent much more than I would of the chinese hmong."

what do you mean hmong descent? are you half hmong? you only use the term if you are a hmong by blood with no traditional ties to the hmong culture.

  • kool hmonmg in Vietnam speak good hmong...better than the chinese hmong

  • very touching...i'm hmong too.you should post up some more.thanks!

  • Keithwhu, thank you for sharing this video. I would like to know more about hmong vietnam.

  • Keithwhu, that was very enlightening - I never knew this. Thank you for sharing.

  • 1000Cranes Happy to share and hope you liked it.

  • don't like back ground noise. where can i get this vidoe?

  • what do you mean by "background noise" ?

  • i like the folk singing in the background. =D

  • keith, my question is: what is hmob love market? please tell me more. I want to know. is this a full lenght movie? wanna buy it too. very sad.

    thanks.

  • hi saibhlob - the love market is an event which happens once a year in Ha Giang Province in Vietnam. It is a chance for young people to meet and find a partner and for already married people to see again their "first loves". It is actually a very happy occasion and a lot of fun for everybody involved - the clip comes from a 28 minute documentary, which I'm afraid is not on sale at the moment.

  • the term, love market, says that love is a commodity that can be purchased and sold. we are talking about 'love', not 'sex'. now, he added 'hmong' to hmong love market, and so, it is as if you can buy/sell love at this market of hmong people. do you believe this type of ignorance?

  • Very interesting documentary. I hope to see more of it. So terribly sad how this practice is so happening for all Hmong over the world. IT's a culture thing, I guess. Kuv Yog Hmoob thiab.

  • Kool man. I didn't know we still have hmong peeps in vietnam. Are those the NYAB LAJ that old folks be talking about?

  • Yep, there are many Hmong here in Vietnam - I'm not Hmong tho and have no idea what Nyab Laj are?

  • Nyablaj = Cobtsib = Vietnamese. Those Hmong in Vietnam are Hmong Vietnamese. Many of our Hmong ancestors (especially the ones who lived in laos actually came from Vietnam--first from China to Vietnam then from Vietnam to Laos). There are still approximately one million Hmong live in Vietnam, although many of them are poor because the Vietnamese Government never help them develop their daily lives--especially education for our Hmong kids.

  • @beezolor You are Laos Hmong, you cant know, what is happening with Vietnam Hmong,They have the same name as you have only.

  • Nyab Laj is another name for Vietnam or Vietnamese. That is how Hmong call Vietnam or Vietnamese. Cob Tsib also another name.

  • cob tsib is not a name for vietnamese. cob tsib is a condescending term used and reserved for people of cruelty. the hmong in the laos jungle refer to the nplog cob tsib.

  • nice,can i watch the rest of the documentary too : D

  • ... some of your translations are wrong. But overall, it's a seem very interesting.

  • i dont understand wat they singing at all

  • very beautiful.... i love it... i want to see the rest... please!!!

  • nice, i want to see the rest...

  • wow, powerful... how can i see the rest of this documentary...
