  • It won't do no good to call

    The police

    Always come late

If they come at all .

    Fuck the police A.C.A.B.

  • this song is amazinngg:)

  • absolutely genious ♥

voice, just voice. without anything else, even breathing...

    love it.

  • when i was little my mom use to listen to this song over and over...i grew to love this song as a young child...idk if it was the voice or the words...but even as a small child i loved this song. idk why.

  • many people spell badly online it is just fun not a fucking test chill the fuck out.

  • There is a prove that we dont need a powerful voice to love a song. Tracy Chapman sings with hersoul and that is a gem. That is a pure and rare gem to sparkle in our ear. Hail Tracy!!!!

  • maravilha tracy vc é 1000graus valeu por vc existir!!!!!!!!!

  • A man who hits a woman is not a man, he is nothing but a coward.

  • @AdamRuthless1989 i agree but sometimes the woman has it coming. for instance if the woman physicly attacks the man he should have the right to fight back. however for men abuse their woman are cowards and should be hung like the animals they are.

  • So beautiful, so sad... Yet this song always makes me so happy my step-father was the one who ended up losing his life, rather than my poor mother he had trapped..

  • It's not sad if you think about it in the context of overhearing people having sex...

  • anyone who trys to fight domestic violints is brave in my opineon

  • @redrasegarden same with dyslexia....

  • @ghizzle14 will everyone please get over my spelling mistakes?

  • @redrasegarden You have made SO many spelling mistakes in the three sentences that you've posted, so what's your point? I hope that you weren't knocking other posters!

  • @Talk2kcab i just get tired fo hearing the same crap

i make mistakes. get over it!

  • To my sister who got out and to her new found love . Domestic abuse should be stopped . To my sister , you are strong .

  • @lovehimsomuch2 good inspiering words

  • My life exactly as a kid, but it happened with in my walls. So true, hat s off to Tracy for telling it how it is in OZ.

  • @digadam my life too in my walls when i was a kid so know how it feels mate xx

  • loveee this song!

first herd it at school, touching!xxx

  • Excellence at its best!!!!!

    Connect

  • Excellence at its best

  • So simple, so deep, so sad and so true...

  • LOL english.

  • The simplicity - her voice captures everything about it. I've lived this fear - and never will again.

  • If you can listen to this song and not get a chill in your heart at the plight of someone who is oppressed or abused, you are either a coward, a heartless bastard or worse still - a perpetrator of violence. More people should know about this song. Not only is it a beautiful peice of accoustic performing but the tone of it hits the topic like an anvil against the horrible people in the world who deserve to be chained up publicly so that the world can show their disdain for their ways.

  • @iflowboy They should be chained, huh? In public so people can see how awful violence is? Am I the only one who sees the fundamental problem with this getting such approval?

  • @lewisallen336 - That's right. Better that than having their anonymity as a women abuser hidden from public - or from another potential victim of their cowardly act.- that they are women abusers?? Would you like to be publicly shamed?? Perhaps your answer to this question is your answer to your previous question of me. Prevention is better than the cure.

  • @iflowboy acapella

  • @iflowboy nice.

  • I decided to listen to this song after repeated viewings of The First Wives' Club. Though that movie was fictional and didn't include scenes of domestic violence, it did begin with a depression-induced suicide and wrap up with the opening of a crisis center tending to - among other things - abuse intervention. This time when I reached that part, the first thing that came to mind was, "Last night, I heard the screaming - loud voices behind the wall."

You could post the words in the description.

  • i like this song infact i love this song and who ever batter there gf are sick in the head

  • Wow I can remember my mom showing me this song when I was younger. It made me appreciate life more and still to this day I can't listen to this song without crying.

  • I still can't handle this song. Cuts too deep.

  • sadly its a truth that seems to remain in most countries.... Im in australia.. been a victim of domestic abuse for 20 years of my life... I am now FREE.. but i remember hearing this song and instantly relating it to myself... No matter how hard i fought I seemed to get no where... It something i intend on changing... If only ONE person had of been willing to step up to help maybe i wouldnt of lost 20years of my life..........

  • @Kimbarockon - So glad you got out of that situation... God bless you and may you have many years of happiness to make up for the twenty years you lived with abuse...

  • last night i heard the scarming

  • ya i know bostonfrost that is what i think

  • this song always makes me cry & gives me chills... for all the things i saw my mother endure when i was little & for all the women out there tonight living in fear. i pray they get seek help before it's too late

  • l love this song

  • so sad !! xx i love this song xx

  • her songs aren't actually that low. As a soprano I can hit most of the notes she sings, all the ones in this song. so I don't know why everyone makes a big deal about how "low her voice is"....

  • @loveelikeahurricane Because it kind of is lol am a Tenor and that song is in a very good register for me, not even in my high notes. You should rethink your statement, maybe you have it's you that has an incredible range, and if that's the case then I admire you!!!

  • amazing, no instruments, just voice, fantastic

  • did anyone notice it didn't have a beat ? it was to good for one :)

  • 9 people support the police not coming...

  • wat a voice

  • This is a haunting song and it really opened my eyes to what it was really like for domestic abuse sufferes and the complete ignorance of the police

  • #passion.

  • more should be kicked on asses for not answering the screaming////////////////1from ex and my kids exxxx

  • how can you make jokes out of this song? very thoughtful song and sad lyrics...respect her.

  • My group and I were given this as our stimulus for drama, (my group pissed around and what we created was awful, but) I found this song through that. Glad I did :]

  • i can relate to dis cus my mum was abusive to my and then my sis started doin it on me wen i was 7 so i moved out wen i was 16 bt my mum kicked my dad out wen i was 11 cus he tried to protect me so i called the police and they didnt even do anything

  • i love this so much <33 and i listen to rap ? the fuck.

  • COME ON FFS WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED EH?????

  • wow, this song gave me chills, i'm thirteen and i prefer old music, the good music we used to have, music made of heart and soul. Not this justin bieber epademic

  • when i was in school we used this song in our drama exam as part of our abuse scene it really set the scene !!

  • @louiseanne123 so did we earlier this week

  • This is amazing, soulful and gave me chills <3

  • i had this women say 2 me the other day the reason why women who to suffer domestic abuse haven't got the balls which is a load of poo its due to fear thats why women don't ring the police. the images in this video goes so well it brings bak some memories but sometimes its the best way to deal with things xxx

  • stop beating the weak.. give up the bottle an the A class drugs...cos if your beating ya wife an kids u cant handle them...hell why not even try and be nice lifes alot more layed back with no ego..

  • 8 people can't stay behind the wall . . .

  • this is my mums favourite song. i didnt no about this song untill she showed me it today(im only 12 so i still live with her) and i love it! it helps people to understand more about domestic abuse and i hope that one day we wont need songs like this and that domestic abuse will stop.

  • Good song fuck you chikiewinks lame ass people just not understand talent

  • excellent song!

  • QUALITY TUNE

  • @chikiewinks Your comments simply demonstrate that you are musically challenged. I suggest you stick to simple "little girly" songs with lyrics you can understand, though this could seriously limit your choice. I haven't a clue who Mr Lucas is but if he's a friend of yours I don't suppose he is worth knowing anyway.

  • @chikiewinks how could you even make fun of this! its not about how auto tuned it is. this song makes me cry, because i lived with this. its about domestic abuse, then a woman dying because police were ignorant.

and yea, she has a deep voice, bug whoop.

    @blackbeasthamish ... :J yea, that!

  • @lolipopz564 Wait? Its my opinion. God! i'm aloud one! Wtf, the poice do actually do stuff.

  • @chikiewinks wait for what? i can disagree with your opinion, as i do. what are you doing aloud? police indeed do good things, but in the situation voiced in the song, they didn't.

  • sadly every one knows something about this what ever way

  • 8 people are clearly backward.

  • Beautiful !!! whats not to like ..

  • awesome her voice alone is magic!!!!! thanks for sharing.

  • this song makes me cry... a lot

  • @vividtwist it's such a reality that still exists today...i have images in my head (memories) of what she talks about.

  • chilling.

  • my thumbs up for ROFLpopss is cos i agree pple shud consider real-life situations first..love this song..has so much thoughts and meaning for a lot of people and yes sadly it does happen..well done tracy

  • @HGGe5150one thanks x

  • this song is beautiful, means so much to my mom, reminds her of her bestfriend when she was younger, she used to get beaten by her boyfriend.. i suggest you sick twats who write 'this song is so funny' and other bullshit consider real life situations such as that, yes it does happen.. don't be so ignorant, NUFF SAID.

  • @ROFLpopss All the best!

  • @ROFLpopss Ignroence is such a huge and untreated dilema in society. this was just heartfelt. I felt my heart as it sank to Tracy's haunting lyrics. so sad that these things have to happen.

  • I love her sonqs, There touchinq, an there somethinq you can relate to.

  • Aw remember learning about this song, It's about domestic violence - so sad :/

  • This song is beautiful but its so sad

  • There is so much more to this recording. Listen to it on a high end hi-fi or quality headphones and the depth of the recording will be revealed ;-)

  • ¬¬ the hell? why is everybody so happy about what she's singing? it's sad.

  • the police

  • This is personally my favorite song by Tracy Chapman. Her voice is beautiful, and the subject is heartbreaking. Masterfully done.

  • 6 wife beaters, stella drinkers :)

  • @musiciankara pmsl !!!!

  • This can be said in to ways, it shows if you keep quite about something, it will only get worse, but having to be sure that what you do will work, or it will also get worse.

  • so sad... it is horrible how the police did nothing about it...its just wrong!!!!! :(

  • @Lissy0698 Smh.

  • you guys see someone posted a violent response to people who didn't like this track? and then some other's thumbed it up? wow.

  • @schpoingle wooooow...

  • When I heard this the first time I thought it was a guy.

Before anyone says anything, I feel really stupid about that now.

  • When a person can sing without background instruments you know that she/he is really good.

  • i think im actually in love with tracy chapman, shes my inspiration!!!<3333

  • i am so glad she did this acapella. it would be amazing undoubtedly if there were accompaniment, but you can hear so much raw emotion in her voice without anything getting in the way.

  • Her voice and lyrics are amazing. As for female artists she is comarable to none!

  • this song send chills up my spine

  • brilliant it makes you listen to the story in the song

  • Five people live behind the wall...

  • Nice song, very sad :(

  • me deja el pelo de punta!

  • Really deep song.. Always loved it for the lack of music. It makes you listen to the lyrics rather than the melody. vx

  • 5 people were behind the wall

  • One day, when we look up at the moon, we'll feel others as they gaze alongside us from their broken homes and we'll not only feel the pain of our abuse, but that of others, and we'll rise above the violence together and fight back, without violence, or cruel words, but by leaving them, alone in their anger, with no one to take it out on but themselves and they`ll realize just what they`d done to us for years and they`ll realize that we stayed there until our love for them had faded beyond repair

  • WOMEN and MEN are been abuse everyday by their mate.......... someone got flowers today and it wasnt even there birthday family and friends stand crying no one did anything now it too late someone got flowers today and it wasnt even their BIRTHDAY

  • @gemskii29

You must be one sorry joke love. And I thought I had it hard. Somoene who feels the need to go on youtube and write rascist slag, must have problems. feel good does it, to call people names? low peace of shit.

  • Would it be stupidly angsty to note how much this song reminds me of my childhood?

    Yes. Yes it would.

    Still true, though.

  • One of my favorite songs EVER...thank you, Tracy, for addressing domestic abuse. Just sucks that media only reports it after someone dies or gets a court date...HEy, reporters, how about this: REPORT THIS SHIT right after it happened and put it on the news...and maybe give some hope to the thousands/millions of women (mainly women) that this happens to...

  • Shes sickk !!

  • My mom and I used to listen to her a lot, and I was really little. Years later I remembered this song when my mom and her boyfriend (the fucking bastard) were fighting.

  • @Emo1Scene

    she can.

  • VERY SAD

  • beautiful . utterly, beautiful .

  • Like this song too.

  • Love This song..

  • yeah. mine too; he actually was beating me to make me leave, as the police told me. he doesn't love you so take your bag and go. so, here i am three years later, living on the street because i can't make my disability check stretch to include indoor accomodations. that's why i stayed, for the roof and walls and indoor plumbing. i can't make it on my own. if not for a male person who kindly donates his time to make people who hate homeless disabled black women don't harass me i'd be dead

  • Yes Kayy, my mothers story to and so many women that just keep taking it!

  • this is mariana trench deep

  • please choose carefully women. I've been there - its not as easy to get out as it looks....it took me 10yrs.

  • @elvenshepherd

I am glad you are out of it now. Its hard especially if you love him, and there are kids

  • @hazieify Yes. I actually got to the point of thinking to stay was the best way to protect my kids, until he came after one of them. Not the brightest on the block but fear can cloud so much....

  • @elvenshepherd .well, at least we can try and laugh now you are out of it. I let him back into my bed and wallet, and he was stringing me along with another woman. It took so much courage in the end to say no- abuse is awful in that it destroys your self worth - you over sacrifice for a love not even worth it. I stand with you in leaving. Well Done, and Thank You - on behalf of your kids and other women in this situation for taking a stand- it means so much. Abuse must stop.

  • @hazieify Yes girl and you too! We do what we can until we can do what we must. I am fortunate. And my kids were too young to remember. You are a brave strong woman worth so much more. We all are.
