One of the Louisiana performers that should have gone alot further! She has always been a favorited of mine. Ever since the days I can remember, The Sands on Jefferson Highway
I've said this before but it bears repeating. Irma Thomas is one of our true treasures here in New Orleans. She's a genuine and wonderful woman. A true talent who represents everything great our city still has to offer since Katrina nearly blew us away!
Tracy Nelson--who idolized Irma, of course--also does a great version of this tune. It's on her eponymous solo album from 1974. I wish they would have done it as a duet back when they were touring with Marcia Ball a decade back. Would have made for a real showstopper.
If you ever get a chance to see her do this live you will love her even more... as I do. We had her at our local street festival one year and I was working backstage with her band on some problems but really enjoyed this song. After wards I told her AND her husband how much we all enjoyed the show and I feel they were genuine in their show and it's quality.
Somebody out there know the ( 60 R&B ) song i,m looking for. It's a female soul singer . The include " don't deserve it " and it begins with " I was born in ..... .
when I was a kid, I was looking forward to Miss Thoms singing this song on American Bandstand...it was pre-empted and consequently the world didn't get to know Irma before...always great to see her perform
THIS REMINDS ME OF MY DAYS AT W.O.R.D.RADIO in SPARTANBURG,S.C.and W.I.S.E.RADIO in ASHEVILLE,N.C.and ESPECIALLY "THE KIT KAT CLUB" in ASHEVILLLE,SOMTIMES I'd be MCing the SHOW and be the only WHITE GUY THERE. THEMOJOMAN dot COM
In Shreveport we had Club 66 and others which would get Howlin Wolf, Irma, BB, you name it. White boys had to sorta sneak in and stand in the corner to watch. Wow

I love my Blues, and Irma Thomas represents the New Orleans sound beautifully.
Whitney really shows both extremes of success in the slideshow.
The slideshow pics were very well selected.
