We are not yet sure if VoIP is currently blocked on the vessel since he just sailed 2 days ago.And can he receive calls from me eventhough he doesnt connect to the Net if he has another unit of Magic Jack connected to their cabin phone Hope to get Tips for newbies like me since this is my first time. I then bought $10 worth of balance, after looking at the rates it costs per minute ( Philippines 0.2020 ). BUT with the $10 dollars on the account, upon calling the automated voice says that I have 45 minutes remaining. I was like WHAT!?

Yes sir i would have to agree... i always say it , if you are looking to use it like you are you are using it for the right reason the quality is awesome, if you are looking to replace a high call business phone, i wouldn't recommend it however you could. Just not Perfect, however for the price Im not complaining. Thanks for your interaction .
I have been using majic jack for about a year now. I am in the military and my wife calls to indonesia regularly. We have this same set up and have saved tons of money on calls. People who want to knock the product I find more often than not have never tried it or do not have the damn thing hooked up with the best possible connection. When I travel I always carry my extra MJ. I am a believer and would recommend it vs the alternative.

question, is your brother in Egypt using the magic jack plus [$70] or simply the magic jack [$40] to make calls back to you? has the connection ever sucked? if possible can you see if he can connect from an area with really bad or slow internet connection in egypt and if he can communicate clearly with you when this is done please?
I've taken my MagicJack to the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Mexico, Jamaica, Germany, Switzerland, India and the only place it didn't work was Belize and this was only due to the fact I was on a satellite internet connection. For some reason the device will not work with satellite internet. I love the device.

And yes, the title of this video is somewhat misleading. It's not free to send a MagicJack to Egypt. But it's a one time only fee.
I've just received my MagicJackPlus here in Canada, and paid the extra $10 to get a local number. Works so far. But the Caller ID is always displaying the wrong date and time when using the MJP with my router.

Ya take a look at my video on how to talk to a magicjack rep ... ask them they will know the exact answer to this... talking to a rep can be a challenge in getting to them, if you follow my steps on the site you will be right at them .. :) enjoy
I just hooked up a MJ to my imac and after a bout 2 hrs of "live chat" had to install an upgrade DMG program they sent meto get it to work (purchased about a year ago). Doesn't hooking it up to different computers require that a install utility is downloaded and run in e ach computer? This why I worry I cant use it as I travel and use different computers (at hotels, etc). Any thoughts?

Yes this is correct, you see before when it first came out it was open everywhere pretty much and no one really had issues, however as time progresses things obviously always change , but then again , do you due diligence and search around to find the proper country that allows from peoples experiences, if you guys want i can fly to every country and figure out which ones work , LOL JK :) not gonna happen anytime soon :) Thanks for commenting , i love the interaction !!
It would work only if the internet ports in the other country, (Egypt in your example), are open. I had experience were the magic jack in some overseas countries did not work just because the ISP- Internet Service Provider was blocking IP communications. In this case, what to do?!!! I still wonder. Sometimes just opening Ports doesn't work,...
Yes always the first step would be to get a USA number or a Canada number which will then activate your account. Remember the first year is FREE Baby :)
no , unfortunately not yet however there are ways you can get around it but only when using a iphone, it does require alterations to the iphone so i do not recommend it . It is a lengthy process and not worth the headache. There is a SID code that your MJ has and it would require getting that which takes time and software's. In other words just wait :)

Or if you talk to a relative back home over seas a lot and they have internet back home this is what I did. I send a magicJack to my family back home in El Salvador. They connect the magicJack to their home computer and I am able to call them whenever I want or they call me whenever they want.
Its beats purchasing calling cards or getting more minutes with the magicjack to make international calls. I have been doing this for 2 years now. About the billing issue I pay for the bill every year $19.95 when you log into your account. Remember this when I purchase the magicJack I activated the magicjack here in the US and choose a local area code and I added the number under my email account along with my home phone number.
So when you log into your account it will show you two phone numbers you have register under your email address. And don’t worry if you think somehow you will get disconnected for some reason NO like I said before I have used this for 2 years now and I have made some 3 almost 4 hour phone calls and NO I never got disconnected.
Trust me if you call a lot back home it’s worth it pays for itself mine did within the 1st weak when I would compare it to calling cards. If you want to know how much you save when you log into your account you can see all of the calls your family has made overseas add up the minutes and compare them. I used up 1,800 minutes in magicjack calls calling my family back home. Now that’s a lot of money save!
I have recommend this to some other relatives and they call way more than I do they run up to 3,500 minutes a month. @diozent Absolutly you can buy it online, straight from magicjacks website or ebay. However Magicjack does not support re sellers online. I recommend getting it direct from their website. Yes anyone anywhere can get a North America number, however im not sure the billing would work. @eloid777. You will see no charges. The other person shouldnt see any charges either. Unless they have a minutes plan that counts incoming minutes.

Are Magicjacks available for sale outside North America? And can people outside of North America register their MJ with a North American area code?
